  • When I learned the artist responsible for the recording when this musical went to a DVD, I felt

absorbed in a voice the world is as thrilled about from this first song to the new ones on his latest tour, which sadly ended, and I was lucky in my lifetime to see, ...

btw, to answer the question of who the camera keeps cutting to, this might help us all remember why he is in the same category as Warren Beatty and Elton John and Julia Child, to whom all wom the Life time Kennedy Award that year.

  • this is great... I still like the real phantoms version better. Ya his eyes are kind a creepy at some points haha

  • I think Josh would make a great Raoul.

  • JOsh has a wonderful voice but doesn't really do this song justice.

  • If he slowed this down and did the whole song, i'm sure he could make the performance perfect. He's voice is absolutely beautiful

  • What the hell is steven spielberg doing next to clay eyed llyod webber? is a knight as well?

  • @eyedea81 No. These are the Kennedy Center Awards.

  • Five people are absolutely uncultured barbarians

  • Webber looks very displeased with this performance I cannot blame him

  • @dethe8ter No... I think that's just how his face is.

  • @anddlizzle Perhaps but if I were him I would be upset Groban does this song no justice what so ever.

  • @dethe8ter Yeah, well... Gerard didn't do such a great job either. Oh well. At least we still have Michael Crawford.

  • @anddlizzle Butler did worse than Groban and yes Michael Crawford was born for this role there is no doubting that to most Phantom lovers.

  • @dethe8ter you think you could do any better? Yeah. didn't think so

  • @soccerstaralways Whether I could or couldn't is not the point , however if one if going to pass themselves of a professional singer they should know when they won't do a song the justice it deserves. Also since when did my singing ability get into this video he is singing not I.

  • There is a man that was in white for this tribute. I want to know what he sang I cant find it. Help anyone please.

  • those eyes....LOL....Josh is awesome :)

  • @sunnyboycj You know, I agree. I love Josh Groban, but I love Phantom too, and this performance just felt really forced and kind of rushed through. :/

  • hahaha! love josh's eyes!!!!!!!! <3

  • 1:19 - who is that?

  • @sturnbull09 That's Andrew Lloyd Webber. He's the one who 'wrote' music of the Night, along with all the other Phantom songs.

  • @PPxPhantomPhoenix nice!!!

  • @sturnbull09 Andrew Lloyd Webber. He's the Composer for The Phantom Of The Opera.

  • @sturnbull09 Andrew Lloyd Webber. :) My music teacher is related to him! I found out at the last day of school :) So cool.

  • I never thought Id say this about Josh Groban, but an utterly heartless and emotionless performance! Thank god he has such an orgasmic voice on its own, or this performance would have been a complete fail!

  • 1:06 ooooh a cookie!!! hahaha <3

  • Who is the man in the audience that the camera keeps panning to?

  • @mrme1010101 Thats Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber! The one who wrote the music!

  • @mrme1010101 Andrew Lloyd Webber

  • OMGOSH HE CAN BE MY PHANTOM ANY DAY!

  • Omg lmao @ his facial expression @ 1:05. I got to agree with the others, this was not his best.

However, he did much better than what I could even dream of performing. He may have been nervous, and yea I would be nervous too if I was singing in front of ALW!

  • love josh groban and this is a beautiful song. 8D

  • guys... seriously, this is fucking awful. he couldnt even be an understudy at a respectable production. his high note sounds like a goat bleeting. watch the professionals do it

  • @justliveit05 youtube.com/watch?v=GnwpUeI4nqk

  • @justliveit05 Actually, I think he did a good job. The high note thing....it sounded like he maxed out the mic. just saying.

  • I love this.

  • He needs to record this so desperately!!!!!!!!! Let's all start a petition!!!

  • This song makes my soul happy!!!

  • He isn't getting into the song. He needs to be more passionate when he sings this song. He needs to slow down a bit too. But other than that it was beautiful. I love how Webber is mouthing the words along as Josh Groban was singing them lol :DD

  • Love Love Love A.L.Webber. GENIOUS!

  • Love Love Love A.L.Weber! genious!!!!!

  • I saw Dolly Parton :D

  • I am surprised with some of these comments...it was live, in front of Webber..come on...it was perfect...

  • he has to be phantom!!!! or at least raoul :)

  • cannot believe he performed for andrew lloyd webber... how special.

that would be so amazing. i would cry

  • i was surprisingly dissapointed. I love josh, but this wasn't his best....

  • Fail Josh Groban Fail that Ab was embarassing

  • <3 his voice gives me chills. Its so angelic.

  • wtf? the "beeeeee" part is much better in the movie, come on he could have done better.

  • I'm going to marry him. Officially

  • Hes nervous give the poor guy a break!

  • at 1:05 his eyes scare me otherwise a purely flawless performance

  • I was laughing! lol His eyes were hay-UGE! But we still love Josh. =D

  • @silence1453 Hahaha, I agree!!! :)

  • yeah, its way too fast

    but Josh Groban is amazing!!!!

  • i love you josh, but gerard butler sings it better. :)

  • @missanakin ARE YOU KIDDING ME. i love gerard butler and his version. but the vocals aren't even close to being comparable. they aren't even in the same category of talent. jesus christ people. open up your ears.

  • too fast- but good-

  • @wallboi7 yeah, if he had kept it slower, it would have sounded better.

  • @wallboi7 i think they needed to speed it up for time

  • the songs get changed by sir webber, to go with the person singing, the words michael crawford sing are the original since he was the first one to sing it,memory was changed so was phantom of the opera that went from duet to solo,

  • i love you to much. he's beatiful!

  • I like Josh Groban a lot and have a couple of his CDs but after having seen Michael Crawford perform this on stage as well as in concert Michael just sings this so much better. I also respect Michael Ball "phantomlabyrinth" and I would say give Michael Crawford a chance as well because MC has produced some very good CDs that have received Grammy and Dove nominations. Plus like Groban MC puts his heart and soul into his music. Peace and Love.

  • these words are not correct?

  • I believe they might be the original lyrics. So. they may sound a little bit different. ^^

  • I love this one!!his "believe"was so cute!!And it wasn't rushed!!!!

  • i did not like this...its rushed

  • I agree he could have done such a better job I am sad :(

  • yeah it sounds like he's trying to sing too fast and the microfone is a bit useless, which is a shame cos he has a fabulous voice

  • andrew lloyd webber has a scary face. anybody notice when josh sang that long, note, his eyes were all big like they were gonna come out? looked kinda funny. he looks better when he sings normally.

  • I'm with you that this isn't Groban's best, but I still thought he did a pretty good job. And I've heard people butcher it much worse, so at least I'll give him that. I actually have some of Ball's stuff and am seriously considering Vittorio...Thanks for the input!

  • @phantomlabyrinth how did he even slightly butcher it? his voice is immaculate. you must be deaf. i'm sorry, but how was this bad in the least bit?

  • @aarontenor the Ab is high for him since he's a lower baritone-upper bass. The part is meant for a mid baritone-low tenor. For his range, he did a pretty good job. I also take this to be one of his earlier performances so he's nervous.

  • @JenovaCelestia

Josh Groban is a great singer. Vocally, he has about one octave that sounds wonderful. And that's ok! You don't have to be Pavarotti or Celine Dion to touch people.

To your diagnosis: If he is a baritone or low baritone as you claim, then the low notes would have been big and full. He didn't get those either unfortunately. Josh is a high baritone or "lazy tenor." He should just stick to what we love in him; songs like "To where you are," and "You raise me up," etc etc.

  • He has an amazing voice!

  • Oh that was my wish Josh sings this beautiful song!

This dream came true! Great!!! :-)

  • josh groban is AMAZING!!! Not only can he sing but he can play drums, piano and GUITAR!!! he's an angel of music :-) (and u can't compare clay w/ Josh groban...i'm sorry)

  • i love this song! and him! lol

  • I love Josh, and I think he has an amazing voice, but it seems like he's struggling with these falsetto notes. Other than that, it was an amazing performance.

  • THIS VIDEO is the fullest prooof that he should sing in Phantom. Raoul or the Phantom, I don't care, he has an amazing voice for both.

  • great, josh groban!! now to cap it off they should also do a clay aiken rendition of it...that would too good for words! those two are amazing singers.

  • OMFG, I love you for submitting this! ~glomp/hug~ doesn't he sound so heavenly singing that? ~sighs dreamily~
