  • cant even explain how this song makes me feel...

  • @clutchcityrockets- Justin Bieber

  • This should have been a single. Dave might not have wrote as many Kinks songs, but those he did hit me more in the heart than Ray's.

  • IVE GOT SPACEBALLS FOR EYEBALLS!!!!

  • So...very...many...feelings aaagh! Laugh, cry or smile...I don't know

  • If I live too long I'm afraid I'll die

So I will follow you wherever you go

If your offered hand is still open to me.

  • god i love this song. its the first day of 2012. spread love folks. we all have one life and we will all be united by death. yes, we are all one. its time to get it already. peace on earth.

  • nothing less then incredible

  • OK, this one goes on the list. The list of songs I want played for those I love when I die. Right there with Dylan's " Every Grain of Sand ", the largo from Handel's Xerses, Cat Steven's

" Morning Has Broken ", Stevie Wonder's " As " .............and we'll close with " All You Need is Love ", and as comic relief, " Ob Lad Di, Ob La Da " from the Fab Four. Let 'em leave smiling.

  • damn I love the growl of those toms and the flat kick... damn it fits this song perfectly!

  • To me, this is one of the most beautiful, tragic, and optimistic songs I have ever heard. I don't know if it is the emotion, desperation, musical composition, lyrics... I guess all of it haha! What do you guys think? What makes this song so good?!

  • @purple1042 It's the Kinks

  • @purple1042

What makes this song so good is the same thing that makes any song from any genre good - you can tell that the artist believes in it. The Kinks have a great catolouge, I don't own an album of their's that I don't like - Lola Vs. ... : great, Schoolboys : great, Village green : fantastic, Word of Mouth : love it, etc. etc. The Kinks have a LOT of great songs that most people have never heard before. Also, X-Ray is the most original autobiography of it's type you will come across.

  • @purple1042 its beautiful! i cant understand how so many people can't see that we are one. guess thats part of the tragedy...

  • We've been invited to the funeral. Great Movie Great song.

  • I get chills every time I hear this.

  • Thought I had wasted a Saturday Night til I went thru the Kinks catalog on you-tube. Love all the comments. For those of you that posted "I didn't know the Kinks did this; or, Great song, The Kinks??!!" I know where your coming from. We all had different initiations. But if you ask a dozen Kinks fans what their favorite Kinks album is, you'll get a dozen different answers. I love this band. There are many gems, like this one, out there. GL finding them all.

  • I'm 37 years old and who's loved '60's-'70's music for a long time, but I've only recently become a Kinks fan. What I'm finding amazing, as I've gone along and continue to learn about the band's music, is how many songs of theirs I've heard but never knew it was by The Kinks. "Strangers", "Picture Book", "Big Sky", "Last of the Steam-Powered Trains", and "Sunday Afternoon" are all tunes I'd heard before. I just recently bought the "Village Green" CD and it has become a personal favorite.

  • This is one hell of a great song!!!!

  • uh because he says the same word twice in a phrase doesnt make it redundant.

sorry, look up the definition of redundency.

  • Amazing.....

  • Back in the South bay, ( Redondo beach / Torrance Calif.) 1972 - 1983 ,..it was mandatory to know 'everything' about the Kinks, Bowie, Peter Gabriel Genesis, the Who ,..ofcourse later on,..Black Flag, etc,..

Today's Young people who 'think' they know a fucking god-damn thang about rock music or anything are both insulting and degrading.

Foster the People and Bieber are not music ,..neither is Coldplay ,..

  • @GreenhouseEffectGE yeaa gotta rep the south bay brother, greatest place on the planet

  • I feel like such an ass for not knowing of this music 'til now...

  • This is a great song. First time i ever heard it.

  • fantastic song from one of rock's grandest greatest vinyls

  • "lets go get a drink and smoke a cigarette"

  • This is my favorite song, I think it my personify...me. Oh, and humanity. Oh, and life. God it's so good.

  • one of thee most perfect songs ever written..IMO....

  • is there a recording of this on the piano?

  • Darjeeling Limited

  • this song is perfect.

  • 2 people are not one, they are two

  • @GuerillaShrimp Niw pice.

  • I wish I could listen to music on youtube without seeing Justin Bieber's name in the comment section. You are not original. You are not funny. You are not clever. I just wanted to listen to The Kinks. Now the mood is ruined because I am thinking about Bieber. Fuck you.

  • @clutchcityrockets You're doing the same thing, though.

  • @clutchcityrockets be part of the solution, not the problem!

  • "Take what we want and give the rest away.."

maybe switch 'need ' with 'want'-but the real lyrics sound nicer,Great song.

  • got it on vinyl!!

  • killer arrangement of this tune here, check out The Kindness Killers myspace/thekindnesskillers

  • One of the most influential bands of all time. How do they manage to be overlooked so often when people mention the greatest bands of all time

  • truely truely amazing

  • I have a tattoo with the words - Strangers on this road we are on We are not two we are one- on my left arm :)

  • @OnMyZephir a quotation that long would use up an awful lot of an arm, wouldn't it?

    g

  • @OnMyZephir THAT HAS GOT TO BE AN AWESOME TATTOO XD i would so want one, but id feel like a copy cat :O

  • @indigolilac you can have it too, remember we are one! :P

  • @OnMyZephir that's so sweet and true! nawww :)

  • @OnMyZephir To each his/her own, I just think it's freakin' hilarious that he says strangers ON this road we are ON. hahahahaha, redundant, but as a songwriter, i understand, some things just roll off the the tongue and you just can't deny them. love the song. just think it's funny

  • @RAPPERScantSPELL EVERYONE tells that to me they all say it's redundant ahahah... and I always have to explain the meaning of my tattoo because I'm Italian and everyone asks me what the hell does it mean??? But despite that I love it XD

  • @OnMyZephir nope

  • @OnMyZephir OMG, I want that tattoo, I love you, the kinks are awesome!!!!!!

  • brilliant!

  • These people need to stop acting like they discovered it first and we dont know what were listening to since we got it off Darjeeling limited.

  • Always reminds me of Darjeeling. Fuck that movie is fantastic.

  • I found a lola versus powerman and the money go round on vinyl, and when i played it, this song started playing and it felt so new to me.

Idk how its possible to listen to this and not feel like you've been liften off the earth.

  • @anabri08 Yeah, I first discovered this song when I was 22, having just purchased Lola Versus Powerman and the Money go round on CD, and ever since then, its been one of my all time favorites. Strangers is definitely in my top five.

  • @RoyNeary77 same thing here. bought the CD for Lola, but found this song on there, and it's been my favorite ever since. Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it for some reason.

  • Whyd they use so much Kinks music in Darjeeling Limited?

  • @slartibartfast68 Because the Kinks are just that amazing.

  • Joy! Sadness! Despair! Hope! Love! Rage! Feeling, feeling, feeling. Melody! Wit! Rhythm! Sentiment! Message! Voice!

Spread this song. Get it to young people.

  • Truely amazing song

  • Darjeeling!!!!!

  • One person is a true stranger

  • Favorite kinks album right here. It's flawless

  • This song, damn.. damn this song.. so good, i'm so high.. this song, damn. Thumbs up to this song.

  • Also covered VERY well by Dear And The Headlights

  • i am still a relative Kinks newbie, but Dave has some great, great songs. and his voice is fuckin great - emotive and strong. of course love Ray's stuff, but Dave's songs to me are the 'Special" ones so far. well, this one anyways. but all the ballads on this album are moving.

  • Wow, that was amazing...again. So this is the "strangers" song. Damn the kinks were special. Just clicked this link from hearing a cover of this by my fav singer, Norah Jones. Her cover is good, true to the song, almost perfect, but she dont quite have the emotion there. This, the original, is perfect, from the vocals, to that twangy drum, to the epic feel of the song. Outstanding

  • GREAT FUCKING SONG

  • This is the best song in the world.

  • probably the best song in the world

  • justin bieber could do this song justice if he did a cover

  • @fbgfresh yea sure if gay and justice were the same thing

  • @fbgfresh cant believe people fell for that

  • Dave wrote it and he sings it

  • you posted this song on my birthday. thank you!!!!!!!!!

  • Love this song. This is Dave right?

  • @somamusika ya man

  • @somamusika dave davies wrote it, ray davies sings it

  • the best is still=the kinks

  • Ahh...this song brings about many great emotions. People of all ages respect this song greatly.

  • i would die happy knowing that i've heard this song.

  • If I live too long, I'm afraid I'll die...

    the truth above all truths

  • I have loved this song since being a young person and it haunts and stirs me more with time.

  • ○○○We are not two we are one○○○

Voy a llorar.... temòn! y justo ahora, justo hoy, justo en este presente...

    tan preciso jamàs!

  • Chills.

  • timeless. .

  • Ugh, I fucking love this song <3

  • its all soo good, and i like hearing the drums at the end puounding on like the backing tracks too long or something, there kinda effected some how to with a bit of flange, what is flange?im thinking of flan,

  • @harrythegrass No langer on the toms, just whacking the crap out of them, Mick Avory could hit really hard... plus there is no muffle on the skin, so you're going to get that ringing... remember this is recorded in 1969... effects back then were more or less limited to plate reverbs (really big plates of stretched metal, or springs (ugh!) and Echoplex tape echos.. there were the usual compressors and limiters, but no electronics as you know them today.. check out how Sgt Peppers was made..

  • If you get a chance, see "Do It Again - One Man's Quest to Reunite The Kinks". It is playing in theaters right now and it is AMAZING. There is a sequence where the film-maker gets Dave to sing this song for him. It brought tears to my eyes.

  • @twentiethcenturyman thanks for the news

  • this is going to be on my wedding playlist :) i love the kinks so much

  • This is my favorite Dave Davies song by far. What a great album opener.

  • This song never gets old.

  • does anyone else just think this is the perfect song?

  • @jdubose12 yes, yes i do

  • brilliant, beautiful, perfect song! dave davies, one o' my heroes.

  • nice tune

  • i heard this on the darjeeling limited

  • i just came

  • Saw the Kinks at the old Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX in probably '79.Got to shake hands with Ray after they sang their encore(s). What a group ! They played for hours...left everyone dazed and delighted.

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay I think you have to shout louder.

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay who is this justin cat everyone keeps going on about!?

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay - well said man!

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay I agree, what's happened to music?

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay Correction! This is not music... This would be the sound of the seas, if only they had mouths to woo the land and sky.

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay You say it, bro. Yeah Justin Bieber this here is what fucking MUSIC is!

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay

Why the fuck are you comparing a 16 year old pop star to a 60s rock band? Its not a very fair comparison.

  • @SnarfBanks easy killer..hes just giving the horror of now a middle finger...there is no comparison at all would be the point i believe...

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay Actually Justin Bieber and the Kinks did a colab recently

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay If you enjoy this music just enjoy it don't bag on other artists these people are artists and probably wouldn't appreciate you ripping on Justin Bieber on their song. I don't like him either but grow up and just enjoy the music you have in front of you that is amazing. And leave Justin Bieber to do his thing.

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay Hear, hear...

  • @MrMackeyMmmkay Why do I have to see Beibers name on every single music video I watch? Let him go away.

  • @tsferg A-freaking-men.

  • yes it is. changed my already rather vast view of music

  • this is an amazing album

  • @supasap. OK, this is very much a question of individual taste. Personally, I think you can hardly beat "I am Free" which is sung by Dave but written by Ray. You could try "Guilty", which I like, and I'm sure you know "Death of a clown". In addition to his solo albums, Dave wrote:- Wait till the summer comes along, Rats, Rock n Roll Cities, When you were a child, Dear Margaret, It's Alright (Don't think about it), Close to the wire, God in my brain, You don't know my name & Trust your heart

  • Can't forget "Love Me Til the Sun Shines", my personal favorite Kinks song. This one is spectacular too, Dave did a handful of great, great songs; one could wish he'd done more but as is he's got a great trash:treasure ratio.

  • @Galericulus and the great "Mindless Child of Motherhood"...

  • This song gives me chills.

  • I think that Dave's tune is really simple. Therefore, I think that his tune approaches our mind.

     His tune is really wonderful!!

  • I love this tune. My favourite Kinks sing bar none.

  • best kinks song ever. Dave Davies really nailed this one.

  • cracking lyrics, what a tune :)

  • classic.

  • I LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I you don't feel something hearing this song, especially for the first time, well then you have my pity.

  • Totally agree..

    Such a tune! *.*

  • @PragmaticPriest what he said...

  • @PragmaticPriest...that's a good post,..just watched Darjeeling Limited and heard this for the first time in 20 or so years and i' not sure of the effect on me just yet

  • Dave Davies has an amazing voice. His co-vocal on Village Green Preservation Society is another example. There are many more.

  • amazing lyrics and music. classic

  • Excellent always one of my favourite tracks on this album

  • This is another reminder of how plaintive and touching Ray Davies' songs and vocals can be. A beautiful piece that I haven't heard in years!

  • ignore my thumbs up; thats not ray davies' vocals nor his song, thee fool!

  • i thumbs it down for you!

  • yes.... together we shall rule youtube! we shall have the power of double thumbs down.....

  • @KIDAmnesiacBends

haha i evened out your negative thumbs down

  • @fuzzywopncanada Dave sings this one

  • didn't know this was Dave, it is very very good, will check out more by him

  • @supasap. Try "Living on a thin line" and my all-time favourite "I'm not like everybody else", both excellent songs sung by Dave. Dave wrote "Living on a thin line" and Ray wrote "I'm not like everybody else". Both really worth a listen.

  • @Galericulus oh yes heard those two songs and they are well overshadowed IMHO by Strangers...... now in your opinion did Dave write any more songs as good as this?

  • One of the best Dave songs is This Man He Weeps Tonight. He did a Kinks version and then remade it later in his solo work. Try and find the remade version (and let me know if you do).
