Just watched the Situation Critical episode about this. I was 13 when this went down as a straight up hippie-leftist tree hugger, I'll say this. After the riots the cops lobbied for better weaponry. @negligentinmate Yes the AK-47 fires the 7.62x39mm and the AK-74 fires the 5.45x39mm. One thing people need to know about armor piercing rounds is they are less deadly than say a standard hollow point for hunting. Why? Because they don't fragment or expand they simply pass through. The only real advantage of the armor piercing round in this situation was the fact it could go through more cover before being stopped. The standard FMJ would pierce a soft vest like what police wear.

moswt of this footage was shot after the actual shoot out..in part two you can hear the dispatcher saying that one of the suspects on Archwood is in custody..that was the 1st one that committed suicide with a pistol.You can also tell this was towars the end because the suspect was seen using a AR-15 assalt rifle which didnt happen until way later on in the battle when they ran out of ak rounds.
