I don't think he's much of a singer (maybe with a bit of training), but he can definitely act and portrays quite the bully when he's in the ring. This is a horrible interpretation to what was on the original album. It seems like Ken Russell (the director) tried to make the Cousin Kevin song funny, where as the orginal song is very dark and psychotic. I don't think this is what Pete Townshend and John Entwistle were imagining when they wrote the song.

@Theakker3B Dark comedy can also be used to reveal the dark and psychotic aspects of a story or character. (Some may even argue that dark comedy is more effective at this than serious drama.) Both approaches achieve their end goal (make Cousin Kevin look terrible and make us sympathize with Tommy.) They just have different ways of doing this. Someone may like one interpretation better than the other, but I don't think it makes the other interpretation horrible.

@Theakker3B I saw the movie when I was by 13. I don't remember being so scared as I`m now watching this, and I`m 50. And, yeah, the original song is very very dark. It`s so of John`s bizarre themes indeed. Kevin's psycho brown eyes are terrifying. And so is it that he never stops smiling. And so is it that we can't hear Tommy scream. And so is all the weird shit that Kevin randomly does.Hell, so is this entire scene!

And being pushed down a tight, metal spiral staircase and not being dead or maimed or anything is pretty unlikely. But i'm not complaining. I don't think additional torture is necessary here.

This JOHN ENTWISTLE penned song, is a masterpiece and one of the main TOMMY songs.- Rarely played on stage by THE WHO, only until 2011 when ROGER DALTREY sang it on his TOMMY tour. I do feel the best version is on the LSO Tommy album, sang by John Entwistle himself !
