Omg you clearly don't have a clue about what you're talking about. number 1 when people complain about the fan noise is that your system is overheating so the fan is automatically set to increase the fan speed at a certain temperature. Whe does this happen? well cuz your graphics card and processor are working harder to keep up with everthing to run your games. Yes you heard more noise when the fan was in its place that's becuase all of the wind its producing is trying to exit.
15 blade and 19 blade fans. i ran the 15 blade and it did go to high but when i went to intermission in mw2 the fan went down a nothc then when we got going again it went back up. i swtiched to the 19 blade. the machine was fairly cool after installing the 19 as i took 20-30 min. to swap then same game it never kicked down during intermission. it finally when down after i quit the game all together. i measured the temps out the back and top and were within 10 degreesof each other

this is a slim fan it does not sound that loud put the cover on then see wht it sounds like. on my slim all i hear is the drive reading the disc moving back and forth but the bottom gets hot where the mb is. my 60gb model the fan would stay high most the time then i put new paste n it and it helped but after a while it goes to high and comes down quicker. i think some must tun hotter then others or the fan control is touchier than other or something i have tested 3 60gb models some with
i have the same problem...and shitty ass sony sent me this one refurbish. on certain scenes in a game,i guess tht require processing power,the system heats up and the fan sounds like a hot air blow dryer on full blast
when i shut it down my ps3 the fan is NOT moving.

you need to put new arctic silver (thermal compound) in cpu/gpu. i did it and it finally work and 19 blades fan still run lower..
