  • Very arrogant guy but also very intelligent

  • Fuck you for “moderating” the comments on this page. Why create a false impression of what people think of JL, except to promote your own agenda? That makes you weak. You prefer what’s fake to what’s real. Again fuck you and thanks for listening. Bye.

  • So which version is true?? I heard Jerry was heartbroken that Dean wanted to leave (almost like they had been lovers or something) and he asked Dean "what about the friendship we had this past 10 years?" To which Dean coldly replied, "I don't know what you're talking about -- you're nothing but a $ (dollar sign) to me." Dean could cut people off and never look back. That's just how he was. Emotions and sentimental stuff made him uncomfortable.

  • @jennifersenn i guess we will never know. The important thing is they made up later after not talking for so many years! Remember that reunion with frank sinatra? that was awesome. Maybe there was some truth in what he said....but there must have been some underlying problems that he didnt want to say....of course.! Did Dean write any books about him and jerrry?

  • They were a great team. Just like Abbot & Costello & Oliver & Hardy. One straight the other a comic.

  • jerry was jealous.

  • I agree with filmakingjoe. Jerry was really really big then and everyone thought Dean would tank without him. But, Dean was very talented and knew all the right people, and had some breaks. I dont think Jerrry would ever have broken up with Dean and always missed him and the fame they knew together. Jerry was talented, but oh, so full of himself.

  • You guys are all wrong. Jerry is telling the truth. Back then, Jerry Lewis was BIG, really BIG, and Dean Martin just wasn't that popular. Its unfortunate, because I think Dean was much more talented. But the public liked Jerry over Dean back then. Sad, but true. So Jerry is telling the truth. He's a good guy. If he's arrogant sometimes, so what?

  • Jerry lewis is a lying. Dean is the one who broke up with jerry. Fed up with him. Look at what dean did after jerry. Movies,tv show, knocked the beattles out of number 1. Jerry made a couple of fair movies and that's it. When dean died he was worth 300million. Even today. Jerry is not even close to that. Jerry was and is nothing without dean

  • This was the best thing that could have happen for Dean,,, because after the breakup everyone thought Dean would fade away. However, Dean completely over shadowed Jerry by far Dean was a much bigger talent than Jerry. Jerry was good BECAUSE of DEAN.

Without Dean,,, Jerry would have been a nobody.

  • This why Jerry is a class act. Anytime a partner or team member can say these things in your own way, it just shows how people felt about relationships, caring and dedication was in those days. Today, it is all about me.

  • he makes it sound amicable but they didnt speak for years and jerry ostracised anyone who was friendly with dean

  • what an asshole and he wasnt even that funny, dean martin had more talent in his little toenail

  • really? u all knew him?

  • he could never hold a candle to Dean. Acting, singing, looks, personality. Dean had it all. Jerry is jealous... He should shut up and go away. Dean never ever spoke like this about their partnership. A true gentleman.

  • jerry you are the best!!!

  • Jerry Lewis you made me laugh and thats all that is needed form a good comedian.

  • Jerry Lewis is rewriting history.

  • Jerry wanted out. The end.

  • When Dean Martin pulled off a #1 hit in "Everybody loves somebody" when the Beatles and the rest of the British Invasion was wiping everybody out is nothing short of amazing.

  • @StanBennet SO true, it was an amazing. I also remember when Sinatra hit big with "Stranger in the Night" during the mid sixties too. It was great to see some of those artists still on the charts back then.

  • Jerry was abrasive, talented, full of himself, however he knows what happened and hes taking the brunt of the blame and has never EVER EVER made Dean the bad guy. He has lauded him, loved him, and yes, irritated him. But he took it on the chin for Dean and has never bad mouthed him.

  • that g i loan line is pretty funny......

  • But why did the friendship have to end? One of them should have swallowed his pride and not let the estrangement go on all those years.

  • @louisa1832 -- The perfect question, Louisa. You know, even being quite old as I am, I find tales of this type fascinating, but not for enjoying others' personal sufferings, but to learn and understand the depths of human beings' failings. Not knowing all that happened, I'm not able to make an assessment. But your question reflects what millions of other Martin-Lewis lovers are still wondering.

  • @louisa1832 There people live a life we don't know about. There was a famous duo where the one was terribly abusive to the one but you'd never know it by watching them in their pictures. They are actors and they naturally have to have quite an ego to promote themselves. There's a saying, "there's three sides to an argument. One side the other side and the truth." Jerry, of course is going to sound modest but I remember that people around him said he was very egotistical and demanding. Gossip.

  • Jerry you are super

  • What a brilliant, brilliant talent-- and raconteur-- as the auction houses would say, an "important" American cultural figure. Yes, that was/is Jerry Lewis-- may he live to be 100 ! Dino? Equally brilliant-- he could do it all-- including solo comedy (check out his live Las Vegas "albewum".) Our lives have been enriched by these two-- and they enriched each other-- and loved each other. G*d bless them both !

  • Jerry is SOOO full of crap, it makes my tummy ill....It was Dean that said, "Screw this. Im done" Dean walked away on 30 Million on contracts alone (mind you this was also the 1950's...30 Mil is a lot today...imagine what it was back then)...It was Dean that had the balls to say "Bye, Jerry"....Dino so ECLIPSE what Jerry would do it just silly. He knew that he had talent.....he knew that he could at least sing and provide for his family enough.....Lord know he WAS much more then a singer

  • @Dys1970 Whatever. Who cares?

  • Jerry, you're a great comedian and, with your telethons, a humanitarian as well.

You are also full of shit.

  • @jpracingph shit somewhere else will ya..!

  • @jpracingph This is "spot on". I used to watch him as a kid and marvel at his antics. But you dont have to scratch too deep to see Jerry for what he is which is an egotistical ass. Everytime I hear hime speak he pats himself on the back in some back handed effort of faux self deprication. It is quite distasteful and hurts my enjoyment in watching anything he does that is supposed to be entertaining.

  • @timmyd61109 Couldnt agree more with this. I think Jerry was/is a great comedian and performer and theres never been another like him, but man oh man does Jerry love him some Jerry. Listen to him for 5 mins while he's not performing and his ego just bursts through...he loves patting himself of the back. So I take his account of things with a grain of salt

  • ...but then why the 20 years of no contact if "amicable" split for best intersts of both?

  • Jerry is wrong and right. He is being honest but leaving out some truths. Dean was the "good guy" and patient. Jerry was hotheaded and arrogant. I heard many rare recordings of the two and Jerry was really disturbing out of character. You could tell he was an ass at the time. He was the reason for the animosity.

  • @filmmakingjoe

That is exactly what Jerry just said bunghole.... did you watch the video?

  • @filmmakingjoe i agree

  • @filmmakingjoe oh get a fucking life and grow up.

  • @filmmakingjoe I knew two of Jerry Lewis' cousins. They said he was a jerk too. Maybe he changed over time though.

  • wow, really? i thought dean was the talent. never knew this.

  • If you read 'Dean and Me' Jerry is being very honest - he knew that Dean wanted to go it alone and so he orchestrated for it to happen. Jeanne Martin confirmed that this was true so actually he is being very accurate here.

  • now i love jerry...but here..once again..he is taking full credit...for the break up..it was his idea...

now if dean martin was sitting there what would he say...

i saw an interview with dean where he says it was his decision..that he walked out...

and he said "it was giving me an ulcer"...that jerry thought he was chaplin and became impossible...wouldnt listen to anyone..that he knew it all..those were deans words...

i love jerry..but i wonder what dean would say about this clip?

  • He's right about the talent of Dean, but If what he is saying is true then why all the animosity after the breakup?

  • It's good to hear Jerry acknowledge Dean. Dean Martin was easily the most talented straight man ever. He was too talented to play second fiddle.

  • @bashbrannigan I agree.
