Hey me again I was look for some advise . I live in USA virginia and it rarely gets below 28 do I need a heater and how cold of water can red tails be in before being climatised
@catfishkeeper thx, for gettin back for me...im in NYC, the weather stay around 0F sometimes in winter. I dont know if the heater will contribute alot cost to my energy bill..does it cost you alot in winter time? thank for helping me with this.
@themonkeyfun hi, yes they do cost us alot more but we have climatised the fish so that they are happy at 16 degrees it took a good two years to drop it from 26degrees to 16degrees but it has worked and has cut down on are energy bill, cheers
thanx 4 ur reply m8 ............ yep i was told they wud eat evrything in the tank but they dont seem bothered wiv any of the others at all, also wat shud i be feeding them at the moment i feedin them on frozen lancefish , pellertts , bloodworm , but they seem to be off there food lately
@jellyadult hi, what ur feeding them is fine, i have odd ones that go off even there favorite food for a while, i look at it this way theyll eat when there hungary, you could try prawn or hotdogs mine love em, cheers
Hi, i am looking at building a pond for our RTC, could you tell me is it expensive running a 3kw pond heater and also what temperature does it keep the water at? also the conservatory where the pond is, is that heated as we are thinking of building ours in either a greenhouse or our conservatory. Any info would be much appreciated. Awesome pond and fish by the way.
hi mate, it can be expensive but we keep it at 18 degrees and the fish seem ok at that,we will be putting a heater in the conservatory as this winter was cold but we kept the fish covered over with polystyrene which kept the heat in the water, if you need to know anything else just get in touch, cheers
need to do something about the reflection of tho roof... can't enjoy looking at the fish with the distracting white squares in the water...can't it be a darker color?
hi mate, you never know they might do, there has been some flirting between one big male and a smaller female, so fingers crossed , it would be a first, cheers
i've always thought it would be awesome to have a fish pond. unfortunately right now im a poor college student so i just have to stick with aquariums haha
hi,pond is made out of blocks and insulated on the inside, its 9ftx7ftx3ft holds 1200 gallons.
the redtails are 3.5ft long, 26inch and 22inch, the ray is 30inch disc and is a castrex ray. have got rid of the ray and put some other catfish in now, cheers
AWESOME POND THERE

Haha, i'm in the same boat as the comment below :P
The closest i got to there were 50 1 inch gold bristlenose i imported last week! haha
Maybe if i make a bit more money from importing and selling fish i'll be able to get one of these
Would be lovely to have one to keep rays as they are so cheap to buy now if you know where to import from! and they are beautiful animals
Interesting to find out more about the redtails, seems to be quite a demand for the pure ones. Would they breed in there?
