  • Thanks for showing this video... gives me some good ideas.

  • I love your range !!!

  • are all the guns in your videos yours or do you borrow some of them from freinds co workers etc.

  • 'kin hell, hickok45 compound is huge. Is this the newest state in the US?

  • Thats a "plinkers" wonderland, almost like going to Disney World, especially for us lever gun addicts.

  • How often, if at all, do you replace the targets?

  • Thanks For Sharing With Us

    Great Infomation

  • on a 500 brinell target how far would you have to be to shoot it safely wit a .308 caliber round from a 26 ' barrel.

  • what's in the building all the way on top of the hill?

  • I like the teeny tiny swinging plates at 3:45

  • will FMJ rounds damage the targets? I don't reload and pretty much all 9mm is FMJ.

  • Hickok45, how many acres do you live on? How many acres do you think a person needs to set up a home range? I love watching your videos BTW, THANKS!!

  • Let me know when I can come over for a shoot with yah.

  • Thanks for the tour of the range Hickok. Loved it. JKW in Modesto CA

  • Yes as long as you know where your bullets will end up and check with your city regulations and ask them if you are clear to shoot at your adress

  • is that really legal to have your own range like that?

  • @64ig6kg0

    WT??? Seriously?

  • Man i love your vids im a guy comin from a place where we cant own guns but i got a keen interest in firearms lol so all i can do is watch these vids and go green with envy.

Keep on making these great videos ok. Cheers~

  • I dunno if you're into fishin, but i'd assume you could take all the lead on the floor and melt them down and make some jig heads, or sinkers maybe...lol

  • I am setting up my own range, modeled after your close up area with hanging circles and squares. Any advice on set up if you had to build yours again? Would you do anything different? My two side supports are old telephone poles so holding the weight of the metal targets shouldn't be a problem . Thanks in advance.

  • @DarkHorsePSH you should send this as a personal message hickock will be much more apt to answer it that way

  • If I had a lot of money to spend, I'd buy you one of those dueling trees for your range :) Maybe in a few years, eh?

  • cant think of anymore lies? haha

  • you need a directional or wireless mic

  • so if u dont mind me asking how long has it took u to build the range years right i have been working on mine for a 3 mouths and sill got a long way to go

  • i'd love to have a range like that, but your topography there really is perfect for your range, the land i have access to doesn't lend itself too well for a good terrain range

  • DO YOU ALWAYS RESET YOUR TARGETS AFTER SHOOTING

  • @babodean , Usually. If they are lying down during heavy rain, they get dirty or muddy sometimes. I hate to spray paint over dirt, even on a traget that is just going to get shot. :-) It goes against everything I've ever learned about painting to paint dirt.

  • Hickok, where do you purchase your animal targets, I have looked on the 2 websites you have listed in range tour 1 and 2, but they only seem to stock square round and torso shaped targets, help please!

  • Would a 30 30 tear up some of the smaller targets?

  • @dylan1094 , a .30-30 would be okay on the hardened steel targets if you are far enough away.

  • Having all that stuff on your land with all the dings in the targets and all, is WAYYY better than a Beware of Dog sign... LOL. GREAT videos Hickok... been watching all day and subscribed as well.

  • Great property!

  • Partly my age, partly my upbringing, and partly watching your videos, I've decided to buy some land. I hope my neighbours can shoot as well as you.

  • perhaps I missed it in the videos so I'll ask briefly here. What's the diameter or the 230 yard gong? Looks to be about 2 feet.

  • @biladupa, Yep, a little over 2 feet.

  • I love your range, reminds me of the family farm. My inner environmentalist shrieks at seeing all that lead on the ground. Do you ever have a lead collection day to recycle the lead for more ammo? Would you be willing to test some lead-free rounds at my expense?

    Your fan,

    grim

  • @Grimganker , I know, I get the same feeling whenever I visit a police range or one of the many Civil War battlefield sites around the country. I just want them all closed down and dug up ASAP. After all, everybody living nearby is dying a slow painful death, Ive noticed. :-)

  • Hickok, how big are your circular targets made of steel, right above the rectangular ones? (the ones rather close to the shooter's position) ?

  • @PANT3RA ,

    They are 8" plates.

  • Nice, this is a shooter's "dream range"

  • In about a hundred years or so their gonna have a lead mine where your range is lol.

How many acres do u have?

  • Question. Is this your backyard or a proper range? Kinda small on good view and if some poor sucker were hiking and suddenly came across and was looking at this big piece of steel witch suddenly makes a good bong noise? Is it leagel range?

  • @pkbjorn35 ,

What does "proper" mean? This is my property, so anything I do on it is "proper." :-)

  • @hickok45 Haha hell yeah!

  • @pkbjorn35

If someone is hiking on Hickok's property he is illegally trespassing on private property. Are you from California?

  • @QvalisArtifexPereo Im from norway. In order to trespass, you gotta know your tresspassing. A large property might confuse ya. A bullet will not stop at the border of the property. There for one can not, and should not, be allowed to do all that one want, just because its YOUR property. Having said that, dosnt mean HK45 range is bad. Its wise to always have a critical mind.

  • awesome vid ....

  • wow its allot bigger than it s looks in your videos

  • @THETHOMASBOIS , What, the range?

  • @hickok45 yes the range

  • Ur the man Hickok I hope to own land one day and make a shooting range. Thanks for showing me how it's done

  • how much do you have invested in your targets, or do you make them yourself?

  • Hey Hickok, how far are those 8" swinging plates from the table where you shoot? Looks like about 25 yards??

  • @762BR , Not quite. I think it's about 18 to 20 yards.

  • I am even more envious of your range after the tour. I want some land where I can build one. I saw your '1911 at 230 yds." vid and it led me here.

  • You have an amazing range outthere, In the Netherlands where I live many gunclubs, better say every gun club can only dream about such a range.

Even if you are able to buy such a piece of land, land is extremely expensive in the Netherlands, you are not alowed to shoot on your own property because you need a zillion permits and environment approvements and when you go up to your local officials and file for a permit to make a shooting range on your own land , they will go apeshit

  • So do you just spray paint your targets different colors when they get all pockmarked?

  • @trumpetdood , I usually spray them the same color they were. Lately, since I started making videos, I've changed the color during the summer so that they still show up. The shots don't damage the steel, just the paint.

  • Hickok how much land total do you have?

  • .44 magnum....can't go wrong with it can you hickok!! lol

  • Great video!! I would have never guessed you drive an element though :P

  • @Ultimatemxcn ,

Best car I ever had, and I've had some pretty nice cars.

  • You've got a very nice Range. When I buy an acreage I plan on setting up a Personal Range too. I don't know if it'll be as fancy as yours though.

  • Beautiful!

  • Typo sorry below ; "PROPERTY owner WON!!!

  • Near me a guy has a range on his 3 or 5 acre lot. He purchased the property about fifteen years ago. Well, 3/4 years ago, an HOA community was built right next him. Well, of coarse, the neighbors complained. So much so that the county or town took him to court to shut down his range. After two years of fighting, the proper owner WON!!! His property is south of Charlotte, NC.

  • I have never shot at reactive targets of any kind. Some day I will have 15/30 acres and I'll put a range on it with steel plates.

What you have is my inspiration ; -)

  • That's an amazing range you have.

  • I wish I had the space and means to make a range like that.

  • do u buy ur own or make them targets ? the cut outs of the rams an stuff

  • Bought them over 20 years ago.

  • that cowboy ate the lead

  • This is EXACTLY the kind of place I'd like to have someday. Thanks for inviting us over.

  • Beautiful property Hickok. Living in Philadelphia, i have to drive 3 hours to reach that kind of land, i'm sure you wouldn't trade that paradise for anything.

  • what happens when you fire a low power gun, at a long range, into a thick rubber tyre? would it still go through even at quite long range etc.. i've no idea the sort of power ANY firearms have so i'm pretty much clueless...

  • Love it. Great great place there.

  • Great range!

I can't help but worry about your water supply and all of that lead and copper leeching into it!!!

    LOL!!

  • I'm just returning those minerals to the earth from whence they came! With all the Civil War battlefields around, there would be NO water in Tennessee we could drink if that were a problem.

  • awe i was hoping you lived in mississippi

  • Awesome tour. Thanks for sharing. Ya got a good dog there too.

  • how long did it take to build your range entirely? i'm curious! :)

  • I've added targets over the years, but I had an adequate number of targets a couple of years after buying this place in 1986.

  • That is an awesome range for the iron sight users such as myself and i believe in your .22 video you like irons more aswell. Great job love all your videos, expecially your humour

  • Um...I was counting the number of times you pulled the trigger in this video. I believe the total was 0. Very disappointing. ;) Kidding of course. I always love your videos...shooting or not.

Amazing that the 230 yard target was getting hit with your Glock 27 in one of your other videos. That's almost 2.5 football fields. Crazy!

18:45 "I can't think of any more lies to tell you." lol Great way to end a video. lol

    5 *'s

  • Nice place. Rock on,

  • Nice range Hickok! Hopefully one day I'll be able to build my own.

  • Very nice range! U really know what you're doing! Congrats!

  • They are Blue jays...

  • its like nature died there over a week. Never seen such a steep season change.

  • What kind of freakishly loud bird is that during the first minute of the video?

  • Don't know; it could be that dang owl!

  • I could have sworn that I saw the owl BURN in one of your other videos. Yet he lives?!

  • you didn't shoot the revolver wow!!

  • wow not a single shot fired... thats a first

  • Excellent !. Thanks for the tour. Watching your shooting videos will now be more enjoyable and understandable. By the way .......... what camera are you using these days?

  • Hickok,

thanks for posting, and thanks for the Arntzen Corp link. Much more affordable than Evil Roy's. I am ording a couple hundred dollars worth of targets now. You should contact them and tell them about your plug. I bet they will see a jump in sales. They should comp you a set of targets, and maybe give your youtube channel a plug. Extra subs could lead you to a youtube partnership

you got nothing to lose by asking

    good luck my friend

  • I became a partner at 1,000 subscribers. Not sure what criteria they use.

  • congrats!

for what it's worth, I just spent $400 at Arntzen, and I 'm driving up to pick up the targets.

Thanks for you help, I too get bored punching paper.....

  • Wow, your second video that you did not fire a round off.! Feeling okay?? LOL

  • hey, thanks for showing the range. good to see how it's all set up

  • you do a great job and have cool ideas hickock, i think you should have your own show on the outdoor channel or something similar.

  • I sent the Outdoor Channel my best idea for a series about firearms, but they didn't buy it. With my favorite firearms, I would save the lives of very grateful super models from Zombies, Killer Owls, & Renegade lawnmowers! I thought it had lots of potential. :-)

  • You rock!

  • That's close to my perfect dream house.

Forrest, private range and a porch...ah that dreams may come thru...

But then; I live in Europe :( so that's out of the window

  • I know I've said it before, but you've got an awesome range!

    But I can't believe you went 19:01 and didn't fire a round!!!

  • Yup, i thought he might sling out the glock, and drop a few mags into the dust.

  • How land do you have?

  • About 40 acres.

  • Nice!

  • geez how much money do you have sunk into all that steel!? awsome range, I'm jealous!

  • Didnt you hear the man saying, I'v had these for years, ect. he just re-paints them, and shoots them over, and over again. a good idea

  • yes I did, but each of those targets is at least $20 and some are over $100. I understand he reuses them, but that doesn't mean he didn't spend, over time, a lot of money on the plates.

  • Yeah thats ok, np i understand what your saying.

  • thats a nice setup!

  • Thanks for this, great video.

  • My back stop is made of RR ties and they are hard to stack

    Some Qs

Do you shoot a lot of soft lead?

If si isn;t it hard on your barrels?

Do you load your own bullits?

Do you smelt your own bullits?

  • learn to spell

  • fyi its the internet u get ur point across

    kma

  • Hey, when you're on the internet...who cares how you spell. Just get on and enjoy is what most do.

  • Actually lead is easier on the barrel than jacketed bullets. Less wear. I used to cast some bullets, but I don't do much of that anymore. I might do some when I retire.

  • Wow When I bought my HK they told me not to shoot lead bullits that it would ruin the barrel Wonder what that was aboutI know a couple guys who keep 2 barrels one for lead one for cast I thought the lead barrel was the sacrifice barrel I guess its the other way around

  • Most would consider "lead" and "cast" the same thing. With Glocks, some have an aftermarket barrel for shooting lead/cast bullets.

  • Yes i seen them that also lead me to think you should not shoot lead cast bullits I reload and also used to smelt my own bullits I was disapointed to find out I had to spend money on jacketed bullits Do you think those lead barrels are worth it? They must be easier to clean?

  • hickok shout made a vid of all the guns he has

  • no, we we don't want to ask or document that.

You don't want anyone to know just what you own. It just makes it easier for them to come and take them away. You have to remember that 40% of the people out there and about all of the current adminstration want to ban and take away our freedoms, including our right to bear arms.

  • Wow I recently subscribed, and as I can tell your an avid gun owner. With that, thanks for all the great videos and range tour. Impressive.

  • amazing range you have!, perfect set up in my opinion..always great videos

  • I shoot off the back deck for my longer shooting but I have not got 230 yds before a hill gets in the way

You could do some steel cut outs of the school board members I am sure they would not reconize themslves so only you and I would know

  • oh, man...two steps from your door step and your shooting...got to love that

  • another winner from Hickok!

  • How close are you to the road? You mention you have a lot of land but I often hear cars go by.

  • Yes, the county road is not that far away. We are generally shooting in the opposite direction, of course.

  • Yeah, that would go over just wonderful, me, a teacher, with steel cut-outs of kids with lunch boxes on my shooting range. Remind me never to make you my marketing director! :-)

  • Thanks for the tour Wild Bill, I was wondering what was over the rise.

  • Wow...that's amazing. Your land is bigger then my neighborhood. But you didn't shoot anything! That's a first!

  • wow that is a very nice range. You also have very nice property.

  • HICKOK a whole 19 minute video and not a single shot??? Is that the longest that you've gone in 2009? ha ha ha thanks for the tour

  • It was not easy. I did pack a 4" 629, thinking some disobedient animal target would need a dose of lead; however, we decided that we wouldn't worry wtih keeping up with ear protection and such on this little hike. Especially since we knew it would go pretty long.

  • 5 stars

  • Outstanding range, thanks for the interesting tour & helpful advice.

  • How many acres do you have? What, if anything, is at the end of your propery limits?

  • Thank's for the tour . Does your son shoot ?

  • I just wish i'll be in your shape when I'll be your age.

If i even get that far.

  • Sir you mentioned your biking trail. What do you do to stay in shape, do you have a strict biking regimen? Just curious! Thanks for the videos :)

  • This was a great video. Thank you for taking us on the tour!

  • how old is your son??

You should make a video with both of you shooting

  • 21. He's a good shot, but he's more camera shy in terms of standing there saying stupid things to cameral & world, as I do. I have little fear of appearing brainless - no way I can hide that anyway! :-)

  • ty,....

  • Where can you get steel plates like those?

  • I posted the name of the company in my description and also in an annotation in the video when I mentioned the name.

  • I would love to see you put the camera somewhere behind the 230 yard gong, and hear the incoming bullet and the delay etc.

  • We've talked about that. I still haven't gotten my mother-in-law talked into sitting beside it and turning it on when we signal! :-)

  • Uhh, 20 minutes without firing one shot, do we have to worry? ;o)

What a nice range that is! But what did you mean with the mountainbike trail?! There are no people crossing the range, right?

  • No, that's my own trail for biking.

  • Very interesting video; thanks!

Is this all your poperty? How do you make sure that no one walks though the woods and crosses your range?

  • Better NOT be anybody just walking around my property! You see what happens to the zombies that wander in.

Well, you also have to remember, one NEVER takes a shot unless he knows where the bullet is going to strike. I don't have people on my property, but even if that were to happen, I'm not going to shoot at him.

  • THANK YOU very much.

  • thats the land of my dreams, right there.

  • Hickhok -

    What a beautiful day!

You have a wonderful piece of property and a very nice range. Makes all of us that have to go to a public range very jealous!

  • I learned a bit here, thanks Hickock. I've got 80 acres down south, and i've been thinking of setting up a couple steel circles or the big tombstone shaped ones. The backstop we use is a huge hill, actually almost a mountain lol.

How many acres do you have there in TN?

  • Sir Did you play Basketball in college ?

  • Yes, that's how I ended up in the South.

  • Thanks for sharing

  • Does it ever get cold where you live? Never saw you with a winter jacket lol.

Thumbs up for the video again.

  • It does, but normally it's in the light jacket or heavy shirt range of temperature.
