  • It's awesome how he could incorporate his stand up material into this conversation, I guess he had to because the interviewer is making some really lame questions. I bet Bill Hicks in private felt the same way about the prick as he did about Jay Leno.

  • I'm a big fan of Bill Hicks, but I had to turn this off half way thru. Clive- what a cunt!

  • Why dont the people interviewing Hicks want to know about the man...? its all just scripted shit man, wheres the person?

  • "youre killing yourself with smoking" - lol wat a thing to talk about on a chatshow

  • It's a shame I've heard most of these jokes by him before. Was hoping to hear something a bit more witty, instead of him just reciting stand up jokes. Oh well, an interview I hadn't seen before

  • ''Ya know, it amazes me to think that Christians are against the death penalty. Because if there was no death penalty, there'd be no Easter!'' Geeeeenius!! lol Long live Bill Hicks! Not only one of the funniest - if not the funniest - comedians ever, but also one of the most humanitarian too. Outstanding thinker, philosophiser, and he had the ability to leave you questioning a great deal many things...about religion, government and popular culture to name a few....

  • I don't think he was ahead of his time, but he might have had a lot more materiel had he lived to today..

  • really miss bill :/ seemed like a swell guy

  • really miss bill :/ seemed like a swell guy

  • its a theory

  • Wonderful. Two of the sharpest comedic minds. What a treat it is to see them together.

  • He's doing his flying saucer routine...

  • @jpkm123 routine? or just being funny

  • Clive Anderson wot a Cunt...............

  • @youboob1981 how?

  • Clive Anderson doesn't fucking age

  • @PlatinumJestar

I know! Whats up with that?

  • The only, minor problem, I have with Bill Hicks is that his jokes never seem to change...after awhile it takes the humor out of them for me personally :(

    Smart man though.

  • @TwelveBridges I think that's because he died? Most of the videos we see are from the same time period. These interviews are mostly the same coz he had five minutes to answer mediocre questions as well as throwing in some quick jokes to give potentially a potentially new audience an idea of what he was about. He was constantly developing new material, & hearing his shows in '89, & then later in '92-'93 ye can easily see the evolution. Ye must know it's because he died. Long ago.. -_-

  • @ThrobnWood

Ah, glad to hear he came up with other stuff - I've only seen the Montreal show he did and then American DVD.

I didn't realize he was still so unknown though, that he had to give "new people" a taste of his humor...kind of sad :(

think I'll treat myself to one of his early shows for Christmas :)

  • @TwelveBridges Get yer hands on Rant In E-Minor, the Sane Man dvd, Revelations dvd, & there are old audio recordings of some of his shows around the net. But remember that yer gonna see him repeat a lot of stuff because most of what we have left of Bill is from '89-'93. Some rare earlier stuff will show some unfamiliar material, & who knows what else he would have come up with these last 17 years of his absence?

  • hi there,

can someone please tell me what is Clive saying at 0:11-0:15?

I'm currently transalting this into spanish, but I'm having problems with this one.

    Thanks in advance.

  • @PabloG1987 "You've got your fans ... or I think they mis-heard me, I think it is Dick Van Dyke".

It doesn't quite make sense, maybe Clive meant to say "they think it is Dick Van Dyke".

  • @drummer1993 thanks a lot

  • mfc chicken/myspace

  • I think that joke with crosses and the rifle pin is one of the smartest jokes ever

  • You can tell Clive and Bill had two very different upbringings but the interview works because they are sharp men.

  • a GREAT American Seer....murdered bye the CIA.....

  • Bill you were and still are the King of Comedy! Good interview too. Nice one Clive.

  • if i ever get to that coffe sahop in the sky ive gotte smoke a bowl with bill hicks ledgend

  • A legend R.I.P. funny that in every country except his own he got mainstream sucess.

Just goes to show how sanitised the US media is.

  • A talk show host with balls to say funny stuff? What far away land do these things exist in?

  • @certifiedpet

And how soon can you show these precious records to Jay sodding Leno?

  • oim keen own smoking chap..fuckin limey bastard

  • @stratman06 Why would he regret saying that?? smoking didn't kill him, pancreatic cancer did. Whenever a smoker dies 'they' blame it on fags. Its all BS and it's bad for ya as Carlin said.

  • that was very nice

  • "it's cheap!"

    lol

  • actually he never regretted it.

  • 1:39 "you're killing yourself with smoking"

Bet he regretted that later ...

  • Love that man.

  • Thank god for clive anderson! Terry Christian is a fucking knob!

  • anyway bill i gotta stop you.....

  • thank god for that. after seeing the terry christian interview i was ready to go play chicken down by the bus depot.

awsome interview! im glad anderson kept up,

i would have loved to see stephen fry and bill hicks in the same room, both remarkably smart men, think they would have gone down well

  • @MrShishkebab Or it would result in a fistfight. It would be awesome either way.

  • @MrShishkebab Stephen Fry would have

  • @MrShishkebab

:O...Imagine QI with those two!? haha!

  • Not my favourite Bill interview as it was all recycled standup material. He's better when he talks from the heart. but I suppose he has to sell his stuff. Anderson was pretty good funny though, he seemed to get Bill a lot more than most people.

  • @joshua2443 for some reason bill was really popular in the UK , i think more so there than here in the states and i think it was because bill was way ahead of his time when america was still tryin to break away from conservative control. and europe was way more relaxed and liberal.....

  • Did you find Britian? Ha

  • Far ahead of his time.

  • @scarletredtv anderson?

  • Thanks bill

  • Good interview.loool

  • Finally a host who could keep up with Bill!

They really seemed to get on and it was a joy to see (and hear).

Did Bill ever meet Jonathan Ross?

That would be the ultimate interview!

  • Agree with you, contrast it to Terry Christian on the word and you see a huge difference.

There is a video on youtube of Jonathan Ross interviewing Bill but sadly I can't find it (trust me it's out there) It was a satellite interview and obviously Jonathan was a lot younger and a little wet behind the ears and while not a great interview it's still worth a look

  • @jwood36 i found it i'll send it to you!!!

  • @tepporocks

he gave good interviews with arsenio hall.....

  • @isolated808 OK, I'll check them out right away. Thanks for the tip!

  • cool

  • that was such a good interview.

  • The capital punishment joke was great. hahha

  • bills politics was his best attribute the guy didnt mince his words

  • you can sort of see bill dying inside a little every time he re-hashes his old 'bits'. always get the impression he'd rather have a proper conversation. maybe not.

  • Bill was a smart guy, I'm sure that he was more annoyed that he didn't get to voice his opinions on politics much outside of his stand up, which is a real pity.

  • "Not with me there's not" LMAO

  • Is it just me or does Bill always tell the exact same jokes, notably the "Christians wear crosses around their necks" joke and to a lesser extent the "Yeah, I really want my smell back in New York" joke. Don't get me wrong, but he's a bit repetitive. Not that his comedy isn't genius.

  • It's Just You.

  • No it's not just him, Bill does repeat a lot of stuff, which is totally understandable when your touring to many places and you don't get the nationwide exposure. It annoys me too sometimes seeing the same jokes but there's always gold that you find ergo you keep watching Bill Hicks :p

  • You're right, it's not just him ... it's him and YOU ... for not understanding my sarcasm. Of course ALL standup comedians tell the same jokes more than once, INCLUDING BILL, of course. For the record, I'm Bill's friend who shot the portrait of him lighting the cigarette with the burning American Flag. Glad you appreciate Bill, for who he was, and for the legacy he left behind. Be Well. —dave.

  • ok, u took a malicious tone from my comment, if u read my comment i said "which is totally understandable", If your implying i don't "appreciate Bill" you're wrong, you see i've listened to every show i could get on the net, the ones where hes tired and screaming at the crowd, the ones where hes on fire that night, so i guess i've heard a lot of it b4 and when i agree with sum1 else that there's repetition which is (wait for it) "totally understandable" y does sum1 take an observation astray

  • There's a good reason, his career took off from 89-94, and in such a relatively short space of time you'll see that in certain tours you'll find some overlapping, that's one of things that annoys me about how short his life was. Still, he could read the phone book and make it funny, which is a skill very few comedians posess.

  • many comedians do this....its hard to think up jokes even for those who do it for a living...also sometimes ppl want to hear those jokes, so if the demand is there then theyll do em

  • I used to perform at a well known comedy club in Los Angeles that he'd been to a few times. I always wished I was a man so I could have the chance to share butt molecules with this legend in the restroom.

  • You could've shared more than that as a woman..

  • Hell, it's only a few hormone injections away.

  • And I'll be less apprehensive about insulting strangers on the internet when I have a dick in my hands!

  • You know that we don't hold them all the time... right? :D

  • My research claims otherwise.

  • I suppose, this is the internet after all.

  • Exactly :p

  • Eh, people always confuse celebrities' personal lives with their public images.

It's like, because they're famous, people feel they have a responsibility as a role model. IMO, the real responsibility's is the mass media's, for how they portray said celebrities.

Folks, if you don't want your kids to smoke, teach them not to. It's not up to comedians.

  • good but staged n im a fan but go through it 1 more time defo staged

  • hahaha! actually. the reason that this interview was so awesome is that it wasn't staged and bill hicks is just such a fucking genious that he's able to just fucking control everything you're thinking so well as an entertainer that you think it can't be real. :)

i've got a few videos about it. think of comedians as magicians and hypnotists and teachers all rolled into 1 and study their relationships to each other and how they learned and what influenced them and you can start to see :)

  • this interview is good, even tho it doesnt seem to work. it shows bill was not comfortable with contrived pre-planned situations. he felt awkward about doing chat shows, coz they give the impression its just a "chat", when really its all rehearsed, he felt like he was not being genuine i think, thats just what i think

  • ya we put him on the map HERE IN MTL! mtl= montréal... like stix and soooo many more... we have a sense of taste.. and btw we hate the queen lol

  • Anderson was great, BBC pulled him for ridiculing the B Gees

    Bring in knob gobbler Ross

  • i'm not really knowledgeable of Clive,so i can't place an accurate judgement about any of his other interviews...but this one,it was actually pretty damn good...light hearted, with laughter and chemistry between him and Bill..there was the one ominous "smoking will kill you" statement, but it's something that everyone says at somepoint...even smokers.i think that this was a rather good pairing of cheeky humorists that played well off each other.RIP Bill, you are truly my hero and helped me see!!

  • I agree, Clive never really had any good questions, but he had great rapport with Bill. He even made Bill genuinely laugh 3 times (oral sex, cheap chair, got to stop you). I think there's another video on here of this nterview, and everyone was saying Clive was shit and unfunny. Didn't think that was very fair.

  • i'm glad there are others out there that don't take advantage of the anonimity of this public forum to just bash people with nameless criticism.that's just cowardice if you ask me.most only prove how archaic and ignorant their thought processes are!boo to all you who spew the wretched and vile shit you do.thanks for corobberating my point..we need more conscienable people in the world!!

  • I want to like Clive Anderson, he can by funny but he's irritating when he talks to people (QI, chatshow etc.) always butts in and says here some pretty stupid questions: "What's with Americans telling airline jokes", does he expect an answer? Agree Hicks seems a little unsure, he's was probably delighted to be getting recognition in Britain but its still a wooly lighthearted chat show so its bound to be a of a ball-ache.

  • He must have been a hard man to interview. Seems like there's always an edge of discomfort. Seems like he hates having to put up an appearance

  • rip

  • BRILLIANT!

  • Weird interview, parts it seems he is into it others like he wonts to leave.

  • Strange how Clive says the smokings killing him,

    How meaningful jokes become...

    R.I.P. Bill Hicks

  • huh?

didnt hicks die from complications caused by kidney and or liver cancer?

or am i missing your point :S crap

  • Pancreatic cancer... but it spread... I'm thinking to his liver.... I can't remember though. But pancreatic cancer CAN be caused by smoking sooooo Shepo04 may have something here.

  • i did not know that

  • is Clive still around i havent seen any of his stuff since whose line is it

    R.I.P. Bill Hicks

  • Great interview

  • OMG that was awesome many jokes on here i have heard but the "...if it wasnt for capital punishment..." genius - again!

  • RIP
