Societies cannot forever be profligate and waster as ours is---there are always consequences to pay. We have a world literally of starving people and we use our grain to feed our bloated habits.
I'm tired of this routine: They blame the high prices of corn to the bio fuels while at the same time the multiple amount is feed to livestock. You need as much as 10 pounds of plants to produce one pound of meat. This is as inefficient as it can get.
Planting for ethanol.....alot of farmers out here in central Illinois put in corn or soy beans. I agree about diversifying, or it'll come down to feeding the people or our gas tanks! What a thought!!!!

He is just growing what makes most money for him. This may lead to him planting different crops some years.
But actually he is just changing which monoculture he plants. Could also be that he plants the same stuff for the next 10 years.
