I've used 7075 for the cylinder heads, master rod and slave rods its plenty hard holds threads real well and machines nice, and easy to find scrap at metal yards.most every thing else is 2024.thank you for the comment
So I just saw the video today, very nice I have to ask, what happened to that beauty? I agree with another guy who posted that your neighbourg must hate hearing this thing! did you change the mixture at or around 3:30min? the engine sounded much better. I love that it runs on straight avionic fuel. too big for my application but wow, congratulations! A year later!! LOL
I would avoid 6061 if at all posible the harder air craft aluminuns machine alot better, such as 2024,7075(super hard I recomend for cylinder heads )go to scrap yards look for rem
he cant talk about it, made in a shop that is supposed to be making somthing else,, it takes millions of dollars in tools to make this, probably ,,a union machinist, likr i used to be only worked 2 hours out of eight then we played cards
Have you ever seriously considered (I mean "seriously considered") the MFG/production of this engine or slightly smaller radial engine for the world wide RC groups? I am sure you know, the only MFG'ers of small RC radial power plants are outside the USA. Certainly, it takes funding plus marketing/sales understanding that the establishment of a notable lower purchase price per unit would give a quality USA made produced a stable controlling niche in this growing RC radial engine market.
Superb piece of work and sounds wonderful too - I would just love love to start one of those up whenever my neighbours are playing their silly music too loud - it should drown them out nicely !!! I would guess that the cam rings and crankshaft were pretty hard to make, not to mention all the fin cutting - you must have great skill and patience. Well done.
freaking awesome!

Yeah, I have to agree... my neighbors would call the police first, followed immediately by the zoning people.
But gawd, how I love that sweet sound! GREAT JOB!

This is so wrong. Any serious modeller would hand start this beauty rather than wiss out and use a starter. Shame on you.

@f2cflier I respect the guy who respects his fingers and hands. No shame in using a starter.

thank you for the comments,at the time this video was made this was the first run-in,
at the time you mentioned I was tweeking the main jet,the engine was running on
colmuns lantern fuel.I found out ,the lower the octane, the easyer it is to burn.

I believe the crankcase calls for 6061-T6 aluminum. Would it be okay if I used 6093-T6 for it? Don't know what the difference is between the to.

Nice engine BUT you are making a LOT on noise in a residential area ???

Do you make this in a ceiling fan configuration? this would be way better than that dyson multiplier! :P
