Oh man I feel sorry for your terrible accident, but its great to see that your still training hard and smart. You just got a new subscriber, the hodgetwins brought me here and you seem like a great guy. Keep it up man =D
I'm with you on the range of motion issue. I also have some old, but permanently limiting injuries (torn right shoulder, with some cut off nerves, and a bit bad knee), which disable me from doing certain exercises and having a full ROM, but despite that I have developed quite a decent athletic physique. So, I also don't find that having limiting ROM poses a big disadvantage (nor that ROM is that important per se), one just have to find a way to work around it, and that's all there is to it.
@shahroozare Hey what's up brother. Yes, there are actually several vids loaded on my channel of pre contest ,contest and guest posing. Be sure to check them out. Thanks for the support.
This video is GREAT advice, and I feel alot of people still wont agree with you, well I feel I have a great example to show that locking out IS NOT necessary. When benching , try locking out and holding it for lets say 5 seconds, you will feel at rest and your chest is not stretched, now go down about a inch or 2 and hold it there for 5 seconds, you will feel your chest NOW start to stretch and enter the muscle building process, same as if you were repping that and stopping a inch or 2 b4 lock
Sup Big J, again new subscriber " Hodge twins " in the short time of been on your channel i've been very impressed with 2 things... #1 for a person to have gone throw the injuries that you have... and you put a body like your together, very, very impressive i can care less if your ROM is only one inch great job and your still getting better, #2 is i've notice all your videos have a very low dislike rating..and thats very impressive also, so your doing something right, keep it up Big J thumbs up
great knowllege and vid Big J, i ,myself have hardwere in my right arm 2 almost 3 yrs ago me and my brother were riding on a jet ski and were blindspotted from the side by a 42-45 foot boat, luckly we came out of it fine, we went threw about 6months of rehabilitation but amoung my injuries my right arm from the elbow to my wrist was broken in 3 parts so i have screws and bars in there so when i try to fully extend now, boy does it feel funny haha, keep it up
@BigJsExtremeFitness there was this corner of land that stuck out across the water with tall trees on the no wake zone (no speeding zone) and we were heading out of there but still couldent see everything on our right, and at the same time a 42-45 ft boat came rushing in ignoring the no wake rule and pretty much flooring it in, the doc told me 3 weeks ago the same thing happened to two other guys but they didnt make it, crazy
@BigJsExtremeFitness i think you are right about the full ROM cuz it is better not to take the risk of snapping your tendons or something else but on the other hand to still have good gains..Most young guys like me are not patient and they think that full ROM will be beneficial to them...
@kostasphil Agreed. Now remember, I AM operating at MY full range of motion. With stretch and flexion. But like you said. Very dangerous at full extension/lock out. Be careful my friend. INTENSITY RULES
Ok that explains it, I can easily go full range so I will go full range, or atleast I could when I worked out lol, do you have any tips of Power Building. Im tryin to make my own strongman Ministry so people asociat big muscles with strong and who dont wana look good but main goal of mine is strength over size.
@leigionslasher AWESOME news my brother. Keep up the good work and yes I remember answering a few stretching and exercise question about your injuries.
cant agree more, ive always since i can remember had bad shoulder ligaments...could never arm wrestle, because it would hurt inside, i can do flyes to far back, but doing pec dec and squeezing it works wonders for me...
@TKOZLIKT Stayed in. You've asked me about my service in a couple of other videos. Are you in the service? Where are you stationed? How long have you been in? What branch of service are you in? What's your rank?
@TKOZLIKT Congrats and best wishes. I was in from 84-94. US ARMY. SSG. Did a couple more years after my accident and took an early and medical retirement they were offering after we finished desert storm.
this is most inspirational video ever , 1:32 seconds is what give me inspiration , love ya BIG J you are the man , i alwasy say you are like Frankenstein's monster full with scars and yet unbroken!!
i would rather listen you expirienced bodybuilding GIANT than some fancy looking money grabbing fitness poster boy model!
this is on of rare video that can inspire you to train with just words and no exercises involved!!
@imjjl Yes, for sure if you can lock them out without pain or injury I agree. I haven't been able to lock anything out in over 20 years and am just relaying that it is not necessary to do so to get a show winning physique. Thanks for your comments and support my friend.
Great video BigJ. The picture of you on the bull is awesome hahah!
This video reminded me of how I stopped judging people at the gym. Basically what it comes down to is, we don't know what that person is training for, what their goals are, if they have injuries, etc. I think a lot of us assume everyone has the same goal and everyone is 100% healthy which is wrong. Just wanted to share that.
Hey J, good job. Does your ROM have negative affect on your muscle development? Meaning is one side of your chest bigger than the other, or is one bicep bigger than the other?
Big J, what many guys don't understand is there is a difference between full ROM and available ROM. You are working through YOUR full ROM. Since you are limited through injury in your ROM you seem to be working through your available ROM. Keep up the good work bro.
@TJCombo67 Excellent post Andy.....Thanks for your support my brother. I'm working on getting my bending skills better. Your videos are very inspirational. Thanks again.
well said jay, most people are way too concerned with "proper form", there is no magical way of doing each exercise as long as you can get a full contraction on the muscle, i would strongly advise against anyone going to full lockout on any exercise
Nice info! I use to b one of those people that thought lack of a full ROM was the worst way to train. U probably can't remember big j because you've trained like that for so long but it's a hell of a lot harder IMO to keep tension and not lockout. Everyone who disagrees try it. The day I decided to stop shy of lockout on dumbbell bench was the day I got my first real chest workout. It's so much harder and really keeps tension.
Big J is right its all about time under tension ya'll. thats what will build size and burn fat(with rest and nutrition).
J i Saw your bench man i m impressed(no pun). cause for me the bottom portion of exercise is my sticky point, and when i saw you handling 405. I almost fell off my chair. im inspired by your vids. thank you man
@FitnessGuru91 Hey thanks for the condolences, but training has been better and more intense since I have to work harder to keep my gains. Not glad it happened, just thankful for the recovery. I was out for a year.
