  • Lol, irony.

  • Really nice song mate. A little bit long, though. A lot of mythological references you have incorporated in the text which give a special charm to the lyrics. Keep composing. Best regards.

    =D

  • I love you future bf

  • This song helps me get through the tough times... Thank you... Thank you so much...

  • I think i just cried.

    Love it

  • shalom my friend I wish you well, many blessings ......Simcha

  • dude... awesome voice. awesome message

  • I'm a christian, but I still see where he's coming from, even though I might not see things in the way he does. But, as a wise man once said: "I do not agree with your opinions, but I would die for your right to express them". He's awesome!

  • I Love This Song! I Think It has To be The Most Played Song On My iPod. haha

I Love It Because I Also Dont Understand Alot Of Things That Go With Religions, And The Things They Say Happened or Rules They Say We Should Follow,And That Why I'm an Atheist.

  • This song is musically beautiful, but as a jew, I find it very offensive. However, you are extremely talented and i think it's great you have songs that challenge society.

  • i love the song, cept it's jews and palestinians... so the christian references don't really work =/

    but still a great song.

  • study christian history

  • Comment removed

  • what? i wouldnt. my comment was directed at someone elses ignorant comment about muslims and jews.

  • My favorite song <3

  • Amazing voice <3

  • Jay, this, in my opinion is your best song. The lyrics are awesome and you put so much feeling into it.

  • i love youuuuuuuuuuu

  • I think this is my favorite song of yours. So beautiful. I'm a Unitarian Universalist, and I'm thinking of playing this for my church (or at least for the youth), I think they would love it too.

  • everytime i get goosebumps and wanna cry cause it's so sad and i feel so bad cause it's true!! omg, i'mma cry!! :'(

  • Your voice is addicting. Keep on the good work, you deserve only the best! Best wishes and lots of love from Norway. :*

  • great songs hun

  • im high

  • I think the song is great. The lyrics did not point at any religions other than yourself. I think he wrote it beautifully by stating: "No one is going to save you." Which is posing the question back at the listener, if this makes sense; save your self. I saw the video "Can't have it" all on a blog. Then sought more here and after hearing goddamned too - I wanted the whole digital cd. Good job Jay. If I was in Dublin I'd love to see you play live or privately. LOL.

  • I looove this song:)

every time it sends chills through me... thank you, Jay, we love you!!

  • Love this BOY <3

  • by the way, i love this song it's correct to my beliefs and sounds beautiful. <3 you jay

  • if there is a god, i highly doubt he's got a sinner checklist such as:

    murder

    rape

    thievery

    adultery

    and being homosexual.

seriously? if you happen to be religious and believe that crap, you're a bigger fool than those medieval witch hunters from monty python's quest for the holy grail.

  • He doesnt have a sinner checklist the way you put it. but if you have done the things you listed above, they will be listed under your name... It says that in The Bible so you cant be religious and not believe it.

  • umm gays def. dont go to hell... im not gay lol but for real... out of the 12 apostles... at least 1 was gay...

  • gays dont go to hell, or else EVERYONE who ever sinned would go to hell...

remember the christians say that God doesn't judge, so would he rule one sin over another? -.-

  • lol

  • What? and which one of the 12 was gay?

where the flip are you getting this reasoning from?

  • i love how at the end the car horns sound like they're applauding

  • I fucking love this song. every time I listen to it my heart swells with hope.

  • hope you reply to this, watched your music video and its good. So your gay right? and if so is this song about how christians believe homosexuals willl go to hell?

  • I didn't get that at all - I don't think is has anything to do with being gay.

I take it as how stupid it is that people have been killing each other for thousands of years over the same mythologies, whether it be Islam, Christian, Greek, or whatever....That we are making Hell on Earth ourselves and that we should take a step back and look at how ridiculous we're being.

    But that's just my interpretation....

  • i listen to this song a lot and im not even religious there is just something about it

  • awsome <333

  • Can you do a video showing how to play this song? it gets stuck in my head all the time :P

  • this song is brilliant. I saw Jay perform at Baruch College in NYC this past weekend and it gave me chills.

  • razorNY: I wish I'd been there.....you are so lucky to have seen him ! The chills ? Was it moving ? emotional ? sad ? Heart breaking ? or just exciting ?

  • Dear Jay, Im so sorry that you have been persecuted by people who claim Christ as their savior. Unfortunately we christians have earned this negative outlook and that breaks my heart. I know it sounds so fuckin cheesy or cliche but Jesus was about love not hate. The people whom He refused to associate with were the religious bigots of his time. Anyhow, i hope I haven't offended you or any one else who reads this in any way and I just want you to know that I love you and that you are beautiful.

  • Thats a really nice comment. I come from a very right-wing religious background, so it's quite a refreshing change. I just wanted to say thats really sweet.

and to ref. to the song. Jay - I Love you and your work! Your music just, inspires me daily! Thank you! x

  • I deeply agree with your words.

  • He's not going anywhere. And he fucked nobodys mother. He wrote a song. If you don't like it, don't buy it, but take your your nasty attitude elsewhere.

  • How can you be in favor of someone singing about being homosexual and the like, but not be in favor of him speaking the truth about your God? Because your God wasn't exactally in favor of marriage you know that right?

Great Song, Jay. Love your work, you're beautiful.

  • religion isn't mandatory. it's one of our freedoms written in our constitution... first amendment... it's the reason why immigrants everywhere decided on THIS particular country to escape persecution. Freedom of religion respects EVERY religious belief, including atheism. keep an open mind. buy the individual tracks if you can't stand the inclusion of this number. listen to the lyrics. he's not forcing anyone to give up what they hold dear to them. just expressing his opinion of holy war.

  • most profound song, i wish you all the best my dear.:)

  • The only reason the haters attack this song, is because it touches on the truth (something hypocrites tend to dislike) anyway Jay you are amazing as always. Toodles

  • Amen!

  • your voice is really amazing!

  • My favorite. Keep doing what you're doing babe.

  • your songs are amazing!

don't listen to haters, they're just jealous :D

  • powerful....beautiful...keep em thinkin jay

  • it was a simple question mattwins. i hope u choke on your on vomit so dont send me another fucking message talking shit TWAT

  • Very well said :) This song is so clever and refreshing. It is simply questioning organized religion which in my opinion, is getting more and more detached from "God," "Universal energy," or whatever you want to call it. Only a fool would believe something blindly just because other people tell them they have to over and over again. I think Jay sounds like he could be a spiritual person. I believe it is our duty to question and test things until we find a truth that resonates within us.

  • I like this song a lot. He's full of good music. I saw him perform live in San Francisco in 2008. He's awesome! Puts on such an awesome show. Really gets the crowd involved and he's super down to earth and friendly.

  • amen.

    ;)

  • Hi ! Well done Jay ! Audio could have been better ! Cheers !

  • shit man you really can move people's emotion

  • is jay brannan gay?

  • he was reported to be alive? and how The Bible was prodominantly produced well over 1000 years after he was 'born' just as christians were trying to convert England from Pagan society who would have questioned evidence! Christianity also offered another festival to the Pagans which was appealing to them.

Maybe I'll write a song about it so you can all tell me I'm going to hell.

  • I agree with what this guy is saying. This song hasnt impressioned my views so dont go on about that.

He's not being blasphemes. How can you say that, he never took God's name in vain? I think it shows a certain respect towards religion in a very mature way he is accepting god or a holy spirit. Admittedly he doesnt accept the bible, but I dont think I've ever heard or read that it says you must believe everything written in the bible?

Its funny how there was no recorded evidence of jesus when

  • regardless about what other peopl have to say...

i am not religious. and i'm glad you wrote this song.

no one else would do it and it had to be done.

i would have done it. but i can't write or sing for shit.

  • You know i've been raised catholic and if you are infact a christian i would be ashamed to call myself one.

what ever happened to loving ones brother as him self?

i doubt your God really wants you to be a homophobic, ignorant, and hating biggot. Jesus didnt preach hate he preached love so dont hide behind your faith to justify your intolerance.

  • So homophobic he's gay.

    TWAT

  • i can't believe this song is causing that much of a problem. i'm religious but this song makes sense. doesn't mean i agree with the idea that "no one's coming to save me". but mythology's gods were thought to be real at one point. who's to say that won't happen w/ God? anyway it's a song like it or don't, leave the drama elsewhere

  • Oh fuck you, Pure and simple.

  • overall point good, music good, and you are hot...

    score?

  • darkcomadreja, so you are only interested in music that agrees with your one set way of thinking?

  • i think this is my favourite song of yours. it's fantastic.

  • so does this mean you dont believe there is a savior ... i mean its your choice what you believe i just want to know what the message of the song is ...its powerful

  • I'm a spiritual person (not that you aren't or are) I do believe in a Messiah/Savior and the hope and Love that G-d gives... But at the same time... I BELIEVE that people do NOT need to just set around until that happens. People need to save themselves in the since of looking after this world and loving one another for who were are. And try to a least bring peace and create a better world... but in the end... we can't do it alone... But we have to try anyway. We just have to. Shalom (Peace)

  • This song has been haunting me for the last few days......it's gonna get bloodier and bloodier all in the name of nonsense

  • i have yet to see a bad comment on here cuz this song kicks ass

  • And if anyone dare leave a bad comment, they should be shot :D lol.

Only joking, but....seriously lol...anyone who does, needs a ...:S ear transplant lol

    x

  • hahahha agreeeeed

  • impossible don't listen to this song... just amazing and touching.

  • very deep song son... i didn't plan on listening to this whole song but it drew me in

  • this is bloody haunting man. the lyrics, the singing, the music..it's all so exotic and it just...sticks in your head, even after you finished. pheww, groundbreaking stuff. haha

my only minor, minor, ever so minor critique is the "her brother tried to rape her" bit..have you tried to belt out this line as opposed to using a falsetto?? i just think it'd sound better.

but really dude, it doesn't matter that was still insanely amazing. i only wish i could write, sing and play like that.

  • amazing.

    the words are amazing.

    the music is amazing.

  • It's so rare to hear an artist speak so loudly about something this controversial! Truly, awesomely, powerfully moving! Love it!

  • Beautiful!!

Can't believe how talented you are! :|

    xx

  • This song is incredible. :) x

  • tu as une voix de foui merci les frissons =s c'est maganifique!!!! jte telecharge quand tu veux XD

  • beautiful like nothing else

  • Amazing

  • is this ur song??? i feel dumb for asking = (

  • beautiful =]

  • u make me sad .. your songs r so feeling touch ... i love u for ur voice and lyriks ...

  • im sad i missed you when you were in orlando:(

  • I love this boy

  • Jay, you're my new role model. I'm a folk musician working on my own CD. You think there's room for an ex-baptist lesbian in the music world? There better be, my whole life is riding on my ability to realize this dream... Keep playing, I'll definitely keep listening. =)

  • I, though Christian, can't help but constantly find myself in amazment of how wonderful and...possibly...true this song is. Brannan, you are, by far, one of my most favorite musicians ever!

  • o ok good haha

  • song=amazing :) haha and i also like that an add popped up at the beginning of the song "god loves you: here's a prayer that can change your life" haha made me :)

  • its not against every christian that hes being judgemental of just the ones that are bible thumping and act like they are the gr8est humans for believing in jesus and stuff and then go out at beat or kill people just because they have a different belief or sexual orientation.

  • bravo ! encore une super chanson...ça commence à devenir rageant grrr

    continue mec ! j'adoooore

  • Wow, saw you in Shortbus and LOVED the song Soda Shop and tried everywhere to get the soundtrack - it's still not on iTunes in Australia. Surfing around and found your album - downloaded it and had it on repeat for the last day. Absolutely LOVE it. Next time you come to Oz - do a gig in Melbourne. As we say here 'ken oath!

  • ohmygoodness....

1st of all, i wish i was that good at the guitar

2nd of all, your voice is the absolute sweetest sounding thing ive heard in my life

and 3rd of all, im not religious at all, literally, and your lyrics said everything i was always too afraid to say in front of religious friends

probably one of the best songs ive ever heard. youre great

  • Organized religion has changed from when it began. A lot of truely nasty things have been done under the blanket of religion. Slavery, honor killing, and the KKK come to mind. Talk among ourselfs now.

  • Rootbeerfan6: yeah you got that right ! Not to mention the inquisition, crusades, burning witches, heretics and jews. Religion has been enthusiastic in its pursuit of minorities.
