  • I want to play THIS game, instead of Duke Nukem Forever

  • What could have been.

  • Who knew it would have been 13 years before it was released at the time?

  • to be honest, if they`d have released it in 1998 it wouldnt have had even a chance against half life an unreal. thats one of the good things about this very late release

  • @KongOpusMagnum unreal was MP only and i curse the day Half Life showed that you dont need an interesting narrative or engaging gameplay, you just a bunch of hallways and scripted events

  • They should release this version!

  • Amazing graphics for 1998

  • Better music, better level design, better gameplay. GRAPHICS? Fuck you! who cares about that!??

  • @Szederp Right, let's make a game without graphics.

  • They should have just built on this and released it in like 1999. Then continue the series for years to come. Instead they wanted to make the best game ever, and look what happened. DNF is not a bad game, just very flawed. Although by this trailer, the original DNF looks very much like Half-life. Makes sense since HL uses it's own version of the Quake Engine. Who knows, if DNF was released a few months later in 98 it might have made HL look less impressive when it was released as well in 98.

  • @ShadowPhazonv2 Thats exactly what is speculated. Half life probably wouldn't be as well received as it is today if DNF came out like this. I have to say that by 1998 standards this game still looks incredibly well done. They kept updating the engine and starting over though. The only other thing I'd say is they got the lighting done very well in this trailer.

  • wasen´t it worth every second to wait for it?

  • looking for the real deal?

  • Dude! Did George Broussard and the rest of 3D Realms complete an awesome game in 1998 and then spend 13 years on crystal meth?

  • damn,Duke makes this look good XD

  • It's a shame the guys at 3D realms couldn't just be satisfied with anything they had made. If this original version of the game had come out in 1998, it would've blown everyone away, just as they had intended. But no, every time a new game came out they would go back to square one. Now more than a decade later, the final product is mediocre at best.

  • Looks like hl: Blue shift.

  • it somehow reminds me of half-life.

Gordon freeman: IT'S TIME TO KICK ASS AND CHEW GUM!!!!............ AND I'M ALL OUTA GUM!" lol =P

    This game looked sooooooo awesome

  • this was coming out in 1998-99?!! GRAPHICS FUCKING AMAZING FOR ITS TIME!

  • @ImprezaImpresser lol i know right ill so buy this if it was a seperate game i like duke nukem forever to tho

  • Too bad we couldn't bet on duke.

  • fuck 2011 duke nukem forever, i wanna play this

  • This looked pretty finished ._.

  • 1998 : Man I can't wait for this game!

    2011: Duke who?

  • @undisputed4life true story :-(

  • what the hell WAS wrong with 3drealms? this footage shows a pretty much finished work, impressively good at that. they could have released it and not go out of business, and develop sequel after sequel, instead they let everything rot to hell. stupid dumbasses BEGGED to go belly up.

  • @BeastOfSoda Whats wrong with them? they had too much money, that what. Many people go insane when they are too rich.

  • @Golemoid actually, not quite. mine was a hot-blooded rant, but the truth of things is that they were perfectionists, spit and polishing every detail in any given game. as a matter of fact, they don't have that many games under their belt since DN3D, while they should have just been cutting and shipping, like everyone else profitably does. such maniacal attention to detail worked in the 2D era, back when they were still named apogee software, but nowadays it's grounds for failure.

  • In some alternate reality, this game came out in 1998 and it became the new norm for FPS shooters instead of Half-Life.

I mean, Half-Life still would have done just as well, but this would have done equally as well and we'd have games inspired by Duke Nukem as well as Half-Life. It is the perfect gaming balance.

  • @onematty01 agreed

  • We'll get them sometime, don't worry.

  • I think this game should've been released in 2002 cause then it would be the same version as in the 2001 trailer only finished.

  • wow looks like we'd actually get different weapons in this one.

  • this game is released 13 years from the year of trailer

  • Even in this version you can still see the elements that would eventually make up 2011's Duke Nukem Forever, its interesting to see...

  • well at least the graphics didnt change much *zing*

  • seems better than the half assed piss stain we got this year -.-'

  • poor Duke, his it camed out in probably the worst videogame era ever, where shooters are prety much everywhere,im sure this would have been another milestone in shooters or gaming in general like goldeneye on the N64 if it would ahve actualle been releaseed the 12 years it was on development

  • How many people didn't think it would ACTUALLY come out until it came out?

  • i'm sure this game would've been great when if it had come out when it was supposed to. whats funny is that this actually looks like it would've been more fun than the one that was actually released

  • This does look good but I liked the one that got released now in 2011

  • I playd Duke Nukem 3D back in the day, and i loved Duke Nukem Forever! It was a great fun game that doesn't take it self to seriously, unlike the newer Halo's/CoD's that, the only thing they do, is offer the exact same serious photorealistic/futuristic gameplay over and over...

Welcome back Duke! Cant wait for Duke Nukem 5, and hope i doesent take 15 more year to be made...

  • hey guys I'm cool and original I can post about how much I hate DNF all across youtube because I don't know what the fuck i'm talking about. wahhhhhh!

  • That looked sooo much better than what was released a while ago.. damnit

  • This could have been a classic in my opinion if they released it then.

  • thumbs up if you're watching this in 2011!

  • @ElRider0815 Yes, found in the extras.

  • @ElRider0815 I watch this in 2012! >:(

  • @ElRider0815 2012

  • Who Did The Theme Music For This Trailer? I'd Like To Find This Music

  • @GangstaThug15 this is the original track from the trailer i think, there was a song just like it in duke nukem zero hour

  • Comment removed

  • back in 1998 people would have been like "awesome a new duke comes out soon!"

    *12 years later*

"oh yeah, i gave up on that game about 11 years ago. what? its out? well, now im 30 and it doesnt matter to me anymore."

*rents game for the hell of it*

    "what is this crap?"

  • I really liked Duke Nukem Forever. Haters Gonna' Hate.

  • i know man fuck i was searching duke nukem foever and i was like wtf 1998 12 fuken years and it suks only good thing are the graphics

  • It's Funny How it Took 12 years to make but it fails...

  • @Ninjamohawk

Oh c'mon don't believe those retards at IGN and GameTrailers.

Duke Nukem was a good game. It wasn't supposed to be industry changing, it was just supposed to fun.

Just check out Razorfist's review of that game, i'm pretty sure it will change your mind. Just search "razorfist duke nukem" on YouTube and you should find it.

  • @Ninjamohawk umm... no

  • Just image how this game would kickass if it was released in 1998 or 1999.

  • This would have given HL1 a run for it's money if it had just been fucking released. This looks sooo much better than the shit they just released.

  • @JustUrby half life? a run for it's money? Duke Nukem is good, but we are talking about Gordon Fucking Freeman

  • @ChaosMaster7 True. I take it back. :P

  • Comment removed

  • I'd wish the developers worked out GAMEPLAY and STORYLINE instead of switching game engines all the time.

Take Half-Life 1. I would rather play a game with1998 graphics than even touch the crap they call "Duke Nukem Forever" they released in 2011.

  • graphics looks the same..

  • They really should have released this in the late 90's. It would have been perfect timing for some competition to Half-Life! I wasn't interested in Half-Life back then. This would have been more interesting than Half-Life at the time.

  • fun fact, this vid is four seconds longer than the final DNF theme. (from april 2011)

  • Would prefer this version than the current one.

  • Damn I can't believe this game actually came out, for years I though this game was some sort of Urban Legend like the Tri-Force on Ocarina of Time. :P

  • Shut up this game is awesome.. Graphics is not everything

  • @Lirankn

Grammar "is" not everything to you either...

Games terrible - I'm in a small car driving around for a half hour and you think this is fun? We playing the same game?

Fucking shooting is boring and repetitive and the game considers "humor" dropping the word fuck all the time. It's not funny

  • @rrrevan dude u just quoted the ign review. try something original. i wanna see u develop a game better. until u do, FUCK OFF!

  • @thewholefinshow

    Are you kidding me....?

Why are you defending this game...it's not your fault it sucks? And now your telling me to make a better game or fuck off?

Can you even articulate why you're upset? I played it and it sucks

  • @rrrevan I was talking about the new game that was just released..

Seriously though did you just comment on my grammar? I don't know what planet you live on but your grammar kinda sucks..

"Games terrible", "for a half hour", "We playing", "the game considers", "its not your fault it sucks"

You don't comment on other people's English if yours sucks.. Lesson for life

  • @Lirankn

I never use an apostrophe on youtube....but really, my sloppiness is no real vindication for your "graphics is (sic) not everything" quote. "I was talking about the new game that was just released"

How you could think I was talking about the original game from 1998 that was never released is beyond me. The new game is more embarrassing than our grammar.

  • Ah, what could have been.

  • The 1998 original looks better than how the 2011 version turned out!

  • I played it.... and it sucked

  • only took them 15 years :D

  • I want this version, is out on the net? anyone?

  • Guys, the older versions were actually never made. These "gameplay" footages are just rendered into the graphic card so that it's looks like it's actual gameplay. Same about the 2001 version. So they can't release these older versions because they where actually never made into real controllable gameplay..

  • @Fjuka I've heard this before but never from a reputable source. I have no problems believing most of what is seen is scripted, but they're definitely rendered in-engine and must therefore have been at least partially playable. Even if it just meant you could walk around and fire the shotgun. Especially the '98 trailer. The '01 trailer looks even more scripted, but it at least counts as an in-engine scripted cut scene.

  • Man they should include all the previous builds into the balls of steel edition or make a free release. That would be so damn awesome.

  • WHEN IT´S DONE!

  • Why dont they just bring the old ones out aswell

they seem much more fun than the so called best dukenukem ever

  • The graphics remind me of HL1...

  • @BlackTurtle82 they remind me of HL1 too. That is because HL1 came out when this was announced.

  • @ShinChan56798 True, but now Duke Nukem Forever comes after 12 years >_>

  • @BlackTurtle82 yep. It will be worth the wait.

  • @BlackTurtle82 Also, Half Life 1's engine (goldsource) can do graphics that look like it is the unreal engine. Don't believe me? Look at Cry Of Fear. But anyways as I said DNF will be worth the wait!

  • Is this 1998 or 2011 version? I can't really see the difference :-P

  • @ZdZeus lol the diffrences are story, graphic, quality, stages, enemys, weapons, gameplay and more

  • @GTAMyth2311 That was a joke, man :-) And graphics really isn't that different :-P (I KNOW, there are more important things than looks, but it just looks five years old…)

  • @ZdZeus yea i know just kidding and yea but who fuck graphic this is DUKE! hehe =D

  • @GTAMyth2311 Yeah, I know. To be honest, at least it makes me feel younger and reminds me golden times, when i played DN 3D :-) (not sarcastically)

  • реально где нибудь скачать эту демку?

  • i cant wait for june 10 i am going to play this game forever yess cant wait

  • Anyone know where I can get the version of the theme from this trailer?

  • Is this for N64? :D

  • duke nukem: took forever

  • @allxtar More than 11 years in the making, baby.

  • cracked.com

  • looks scripted like hell

  • wish you could unlock some of the gameplay from the old versions in the new one that would be pretty cool

  • Pre-order available on Steam!

  • @Grim1Tuesday2 Like it has been for a good few fucking WEEKS now. Ugh... Wannabe fanboys these days...

  • @CaptainSeasick Wannabe fanboys...? You know that people don't always check the steam store news because it usually has something uninteresting.

  • @ZieVideoGuy Never you mind.

  • Funny enough.... the game's been pushed back to June 14th. How many push backs in a row is this now?

  • Thank God the game didn't come out then. It would have failed so badly by looking at This lol.

  • This was in 2001, dumbass. Apparantly you aren't a real duke fan. I saw the trailer back in the day.

  • Damn, even by 1998 standards this looks good

  • @Shroombot92 This is more like 2006 good. ITS JUST THAT FUCKING GOOD.

  • June 10th For International,June 14th America

  • why did it take so much to make?

  • how long has this game been in the making for

  • @MrInvisiblez longer than your mother was pregnant with you lol (: 1997

  • @mrsandstorm66 lol not really

  • @mrsandstorm66 the games been in development for 13 years april 28 1997 was when the development started 8D

  • last month (march) release got delayed to june (10th, in the US 14th).

  • a game that has been taking "FOREVER" to come out!

  • @beholdnyquil litteral lol

  • what a suck

  • duke nukem forver will never be released...

  • @liamlesson it will.

  • everyone click 1911 then watch = epic

  • 2011??? It's 13 f'n years to wait! What am gonna do, huh? Ok I'll star saving some for a new PC. Hope my patience'll be rewarded. Peace.

  • 13 years later, we still got our fingers crossed XD

  • Delayed again until June!!!

  • Looks better than cod.

  • Wouldn't that just suck if the world ended on May 2?

  • Who here's willing to bet that absolutely none of this footage is in the game anymore?

  • @SergeantLuke updated maybe!

  • 1998 Duke Nukem Forever Announced

    2010 - 2011 Duke Nukem Forever pre-order

  • wow...1998..cant believe it...woow lol!....

as I always say...is better later than never.

  • the 1998 and 2001 trailers look alot better than the 2011 one to be honest.

  • @ElectricGuitar666X cause the ladies boobs are bigger lol!

  • I still wish 3D Realms finished it ._.

    I love 3D Realms!

  • @darksmiley they did finish it. gearbox just polished and published it. the actualy game was done 99% by 3d realms with the rest dont by gearbox unde rth direction from 3d realms original director.

  • @jsh020 wow... that's so cool, I had no idea it was that closely tied to 3D Realms! I wonder why it never actually got finished by 3DR....

  • @darksmiley cause they went bankrupt after invesitng too much money into it and then scraping it for another version. the game was very close to being finished but then the debt caught up to them and they closed down. then earbox picked up some of the 3d realms devs and directors and they finsihed the game. remember completing 99% of the game is just the game. gearbox is doing all the polishing, music, VA, ext. aka all the little things that relay make gams special when doen with anough care

  • half life mod?

  • Gratuitous use of sun flare effect FTW. Was this in GLiDE, OpenGL or DirectX?

  • @ragejg Most likely Glide since 3DFX was quite popular in the late 90's and the Unreal Engine at the time (What DNF used then, and still will use today) made excellent use of it..

  • this looked less like Duke, and more like Half life.

  • haha This is call of duty back then xD

  • if this would have came out in 1998, I don't think that half life would have that kind of status it has today, pepole would still say its the best game, but there will always be the persons who are saying, but what about duke nukem forever then?

  • Wow, this game looks promising ! (xD)

  • LOLOLOL this trailer was horrible, no offense XD thank god for 2011.

  • Imagine having this game come out right after Duke3D, its like a hundred steps past it in terms of graphics (and probably storytelling and character). I'm so glad it finally gets to see the light of day....it has too much history to be forgotten on some shelf. Plus, I doubt DNForever will be the last we see of Duke :D

  • Awesome graphics for 98!!!

  • wow just awesome that those ppl got to see graphics like these

  • @gamezonic the graphics are just '1998 average' except for two things:

    - The most REALISTIC LENS FLARES EVER DONE (and still are this)

    - Framebuffer effects. check out that cloaked alien. you haven't really seen things like that done in games until pixel shader 2.0 rolled around. this trailer was filmed on a voodoo2 which supported this well enough. very few games directly read/wrote to the framebuffer for things like that since hardware all sucked in the era so there was no risk to go for it.

  • I bet Id still like this version more than the finished version of the game

  • Duke Nukem Forever will release this year

  • The game engine certainly looks much more impressive than half-life, too bad it wasn't released. What a waste.

  • @Flashlight1996

That engine was released, the game wasn't. It was the Quake II engine that 3D Realms used, amongst several others that came later on including the Unreal engine. The latest build is an engine that has been custom made for Duke, no variations on any others.

  • @Flashlight1996 half life's engine is better. Compare the two. you'll see

  • /watch?v=XPNvfn801rc New Duke Nukem Forever Gameplay. Leaked.

  • It TOOK forever for it to be released.

  • @manomow after 12 fucking years it better be worth it.

  • @Arthirable IS the game good? Well after 12 fucking years, it better be.

  • May 3, 2011 hell freezes over.

  • @gojordon1 DELAYED!

  • @doom3134 NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does anyone know what consoles Duke Nukem Forever was intended to be released on back in 1997 when they first announced this game? Like if it actually got finished and released in 1998 was it going to be on PC and PS1,SAT,N64?

  • @amacfantaasy It would have been a PC release, probably with later ports to other consoles, similar to DN3D.

  • We could have played DNF on Voodoo 2 SLI or Voodoo 3....but nooooo. :(

  • anyone know were to get that awesome tune from?

  • @MediaMeandyou

    megadeth

  • gearbox should make a special edition with this on the disc
