And if you do make someone bleed with a highstick generally its a 4 minute double minor not a game misconduct unless its like a vicious two hander. FYI Sid didn't cry to the ref. The minute Eaton got up and their was blood on the ice the ref automatically yelled at Orr "You're gone". Werner I believe you are right. It's an iffy call that's for sure though. I am a Pens fan but really like the Rangers. But don't say "Sid cried blah blah blah" You have to remember Orr's reputation and what not. If Godard would have hit Staal that way or any of the Rangers, he probably would have got the same penalty/ejection.

It was a penalty. He hit Eaton before the puck got there, but it wasnt a major. Its a 2 minute interference call. They saw the blood and decided to tack on 3 mins and a game misconduct. The hit was clean, IMO, he hit him from the side and it looks as though Eaton was falling when Orr got there.

I think the misconduct was a little overboard. The major rule is apparently something new regarding interference so I guess I'm okay with that. I would obviously be upset if it were someone from my team, but the misconduct seems almost like a reputation call.

I believe the misconduct penalty is automatically applied to any non-fighting major penalty. I might be wrong.

agreed...the general accepted rule, as long as I've played the game, is that a double minor is assessed when blood is drawn. The major/misconduct was overboard, but the interference was a definite good-call.
