@CoffeeXVictorain The reason they both had it is because Huntington's disease is hereditary. The disease is caused by a dominant trait in one parent, so if that parent passes that one trait, the child will have the disease regardless of the other parent. (Thus, those with Huntington's disease have 50% chance of having offspring with it.) The way to prevent it is not to reproduce, unfortunately, the disease is not detectable until after child-bear age, and this is why the disease lives on. :(

@CoffeeXVictorain its a genetic disorder in which the further it is passed down the genetic line, the earlier the onset of the disease. I might speculate that the grandfather also had it. It also had a high probability of being passed on to progeny. Sadly, in the case of Huntington's disease, its like a game of tick-tac-toe, the only way to win is not to play (IMHO, others would prefer to play the odds, which I don't fault them for).
