From what I heard (take this story as "I heard this somewhere"), basically, the studio had optioned to make the movie, but the option was soon to run out, so to keep hold of the option, they had to produce *something*. So they made this on low budget just to get it made. In no way was it to be released, it was just supposed to be shelved - to hold on to the option. But like anything, someone gets it and releases it as bootlegs. That's how I have my copy

While I commented on the last portion, I don't know how many will watch it that far. This seems very close to what a late 70s or early 80s adaptation of this would have looked like. Special effects are awful, characters acted the parts well. I've turned off movies that cost 10 times more than this to make. This would have been a fine movie for TV, and deserves a DVD release. My stepson watched this with me and agreed it wasn't bad and he's 11. He thought the Thing looked better in this one.

Can you imagine being a young, aspiring artist - thinking you were cast in a movie that's to be released... only to discover it was an "Ashcan Copy" movie made only to cover legal obligations for a future film to be made for actual release. I have never heard of this and it seems such a crime to lead creative people on in an effort to fulfill a legal requirement. That had to sting when they all learned the truth (although a few probably said "Phew! Thank God this crap will NEVER be released!")

I think this is (so far) closest to the comics they have for the big screen. The old cartoon was "nee-ahh" and the recent movies was HORRID!

The movie starts out when he's in college long before he becomes mr. fantastic in the original comics Reed and Ben went to college and later fought in world war 2 which ended in 1945, and it was 1961, 16 years after end of world war 2 that he became Mr. Fantastic so Sue would be older by then. So by time she becomes Invisible Girl or Invisible Woman she's years older.

They were all bad movies in their own right, all three, maybe thats why i like them all equally, big budgets dont garentee (typos) good movies, common knowledge, but just the fact that this can hold a candle to the 05 and 07 versions is enough to get one thinking.

The person I feel worst for is the composer. Such a stirring score--written, edited, orchestrated, recorded and produced, yet the only place anyone will hear it is on grainy YouTube clips.

My freind's uncle worked ina video store and he knew a guy who worked on this and he got the tape. i imagined taht's how a lot of these things were released back then. If they were never physically detsroyed, you could get your hands on them if you knew the right people.

No, Roger Cormans 1994 Fantastic Four movie was never released in theaters, or even video. It was very near completion when the studio decided to abort the entire project, because they felt it would not make back any money.
