@nagy121212 Sikhs say your hair is a gift from god and should not be cut as a sign of respect and appreciation. You may wonder why this is not true for nails but it would be very impractical to have long nails i.e (to write with) or long nails on your feet (when putting shoes on). Sikhism is very practical religion, god understands why we could not do this. Your hair usually doesn't stops you from doing such important day to day things & as a sign of love we thus keep long hair. hope this helps!

Sikhs believe in living a natural life, the way God made us. We do not edit our bodies because if God wanted us to have tatoo's etc, he would have made us with tatoo's etc. Similarly, if God wanted us to have shorter hair than the natural lenght, he would have made it that way.

It absorbs harmful radiation, it stops any dust entering orifices etc. The list is endless. The point being, all of our bodily characteristics provide a function for the human body. The hair on your head, will grow to its natural lenght and then stop growing. FACT.

Sikhs believe that we should not alter the natural charateristics of our bodies, as in the long term, they all provide a benefical function for the overall health of the body. If we did not need them then over the process of evolution they would have been taken out. The turban simply keeps the hair on our heads neat and tidy for day to day life.

There is also a lot of symbolism behind Sikhism, the Kara for example, and the turban, and all of the five K's represent that symbolism. Finally, there has been some studies that link hair with the production of androgen/testostorone. I do not know the specifics, but when i read the article, in short it suggested that hair reaaaally does give you strenght.

You may wonder why this is not true for nails but it would be very impractical to have long nails i.e (to write with) or long nails on your feet (when putting shoes on). Sikhism is very practical religion, god understands why we could not do this. Your hair usually doesn't stops you from doing such important day to day things & as a sign of love we thus keep long hair. hope this helps!

i live in a sikh community and i have NEVER seen a girl wearing a turban.
i mean NEVER.
the Sikhs hear only the men would wear a turban......
women wear a head scarf thing normally still showing face or more normally nothing.

wjkk wjkf....... this video does not explain why exactly sikhs wear turbans....... sikhism is not a religion of blind faith. There is a reason for every custom behind sikhi. Why we wear turbans? Sikhs believe in living a natural life, the way God made us. We do not edit our bodies because if God wanted us to have tatoo's etc, he would have made us with tatoo's etc. Similarly, if God wanted us to have shorter hair than the natural lenght, he would have made it that way.

@tksingh1000 The hair on a human beings body, provides vital functions. For example, it insulates our body by keeping a thin layer of air trapped next to our skin, therefore reducing heat loss. It absorbs harmful radiation, it stops any dust entering orifices etc. The list is endless. The point being, all of our bodily characteristics provide a function for the human body. The hair on your head, will grow to its natural lenght and then stop growing. FACT.

@tksingh1000 Just like the hair on your eyebrows or anywhere else on your body, it had a natural lenght. Sikhs believe that we should not alter the natural charateristics of our bodies, as in the long term, they all provide a benefical function for the overall health of the body. If we did not need them then over the process of evolution they would have been taken out. The turban simply keeps the hair on our heads neat and tidy for day to day life.

@tksingh1000 Obviously that is not its only purpose, as it serves as an Identity. There is also a lot of symbolism behind Sikhism, the Kara for example, and the turban, and all of the five K's represent that symbolism. Finally, there has been some studies that link hair with the production of androgen/testostorone. I do not know the specifics, but when i read the article, in short it suggested that hair reaaaally does give you strenght.
