  • dude you got skillO_Owow

  • @BACONSTR1PS Thank you very much

  • Bob Dylan always in our ears and heart! The biggest rock/poet of 20 th cenntury

    Thank you Lowdenjim

  • @RASTAUMBE81 None to compare - greatest singer/songwriter of all time IMHO

  • Only heard this song a couple of weeks ago. By far one of my all time favourites! You play it beautifully too. On lesson 4 of yours at the moment. Great teacher! Thank you very much!

  • @WillSkillz0 Thanks Will - in nearly 50 years now I've never tired of listening to that amazing Freewheelin' track; I hope it goes like that for you too!

  • wow, nice! Do you have a upload with this song the way u like to play it? I´m curious to hear it!

  • man i can tell from the first three seconds i am gonna enjoy this vid. love from baltimore

  • Hiya Chris in Baltimore - thanks for listening; love your funky keyboard jives - teach me!

  • Excellent!

  • Hi Jim.

I'm learning this song from your video series. I'm on episode 3. Right now my fingers are hurting, so I'm taking a break and watching this video.

    Thanks !

  • Awesome cover! You are3 one of the few people I've seen who can do his song justice singing :)

  • you did this beautifully! it sounds amazing.

thank you for taking the time to share.

  • Thanks very much Rachel

  • i'm kinda glad all the Dylan material is gone off youtube. made it a whole lot easier to find your incredibly informative videos and comments

  • Thank you very much - I'm sad to see Bob's videos removed as I believe Youtube actually broadened his appeal!

  • Hmm, i have just been bashing at this harp thingy for 3 weeks by now but i am fully lost ... if you play an A harp crossharp you are in the key of D but the song is in the key off E and now i am lost ... think its reading time again. Thanx for your info, great lesson tho, your the first one who made absolute sence.

  • To play blues or "cross-harp" to a song in "E" you need an "A" harp. To play in key of "A" you need a "D" harp. The easiest way to think of it is to take the 2nd chord of your 3-chord trick as the guide, so (for example) in the key of "C" the chords are C, F & G..... so you need an "F" harp; in the key of "G" they are G, C & D so you need a "C" harp, and so on.... good luck!

  • stupid question but ... what key is your harp in (harp novice here). Thanx man, took me a few weeks but i finally got the picking pattern up to speed now i need is the harp thingy.

  • Harmonica is in "A" and played "cross-harp"

  • Beautiful, especially the fingerpicking.

  • Thanks very much Jedi!

  • you´re not bob dylan but thank you anyway

  • Thank you for letting me know (I was having an identity crisis)..

  • I'm trying to find an original Dylan of this but (other than a terrible live performance with Clapton) all I can find is covers. And this is by far the best one I've found. Well done my friend.

  • Thank you very much. Lots of Dylan material has been removed from Youtube recently due to copyright, but there was never any video of him finger-picking this song; there were only strummed versions. He did sometimes play it in a fingerstyle, but never like the legendary original Langhorne picking featured on the album.

  • awesome job

  • Thank you very much!

  • you're a talented dude. great take on it.

  • Thank you very much for listening and for your kind comment.

  • Hello, sir

Is this your own arrangement, or did you use tabs ?

  • No - I can't read music and don't use tab - I play "by ear"; the arrangement is as played on the original Freewheelin' track. If you would like to learn it - I have uploaded 5 videos covering every aspect of the song.

  • @Lowdenjim

Yep, I just saw those ans they look to be very decriptive

    Thank you very much

  • Id be incredibly grateful but only if you like the track!

  • Really geat tune. Love the easy, flowing fingerstyle. I used to play this one at my local folk club in the seventies. I remember the second time I tried it I blanked on the lyrics - something to do with an excess of barley wine in the run up to the performance. The audience filled in for me admirably and still applauded generously at the end. I applaud you too, though in this case for doing the song true justice.

  • Thanks Ronnie - been there many times with the blank lyrics myself! This version is simply trying to get close to the original for the sake of teaching how to play it; I approach it in different ways when playing in public.

  • Jim this was great, only been playing a short while and loved the approach.

I've got this song i really want to learn, been trying to work it out for ages as theres no tab i can find.

Its a song by The Waifs called Highway one, great bit of guitar but i just cant work it out, just dropping the line hoping you might get hooked by it and maybe put out a video!

  • I've listened in to the track Doc and it's obviously a multi-layered band track with staccato touches on acoustic guitar with electric lead-guitar riffs here and there. If played on a solo acoustic guitar it would have to be down to interpretation on how it could be played. I could maybe do a cover and see what you think....

  • Jim this was great, only been playing a short while and loved the approach.

  • what key is your harp in?

  • Key of "A" played "cross-harp" as in the original Bob Dylan recording

  • wow, you're seriously amazing. thank you so much. this is great.

  • Thank you very much!

  • very interesting cover, and very good job with the lessons too. Im starting with the fingerpicking, and i still dont see much advance on it, i almost fail on every chord change......but im decided to work on it. Thank you very much for your generosity sharing this with all of us. Good luck!

  • Very good luck to you too - you have the motivation so you'll nail it soon enough. Get back to me with any further help you might need.

  • with the harp too!!! wow. Sir, I tip my hat to you. Thank you for the lessons. It's been a lot of fun.

  • Thanks very much - I'm glad you've found the vids helpful. I hope you find my other Dylan "How to's" useful too.

  • You've made this song your own Jim. If I could play half as good as you I'd die a happy man!

I've just come across your vids and look forward to many happy hours with my guitar.

  • Great to have you on board - all "Trekkies" very welcome here. Follow the DTT "How to" vids with me and your fingerstyle playing will come up to warp speed very quickly. Live long and prosper.....

  • : O

  • I'm a huge Dylan fan. He is the main inspiration behind all my originals. Great job and amazing playing. 5/5 from Canada

  • Thanks Glen - good luck with your songs!

Canada has produced one of the best songwriters of all time (Gordon Lightfoot) so you have homespun inspiration there!

  • what key is your harmonica? don't play guitar. have been wanting to learn for years but never got around to it. this is one of my all time favorite songs and you certainly do it justice. if i ever pick up a guitar, i will use your videos to learn it.

  • Guitar in "E" and harmonica in cross-harp key of "A". Get yourself a guitar and join the fun!

  • I've followed all your instructional videos for how to play this song. I haven't picked up a guitar for close to 1/2 a year and had been playing my Mandolin (very different stringing etc) and I'd never played finger picking before, but I have nearly got the basic chords and adding the treble. I think your video is one of the most effective learning methods I have come across; thank you very much for putting them up. I hope you got as much enjoyment as I am now. All the best. Harry

  • That's great Harry - and thanks. Finger-pickin' a mando is good fun too...

  • I'm crying, just great... :)

  • Thanks Scompo!

  • @Lowdenjim You're very welcome!

  • Bravo!

  • Thank you!

  • Real great cover, Kudos to you brother..

  • Thank you!

  • also my favorite bob dylan song! good choice, awesome cover

  • ... and thanks again to you!

  • hey what key are you using on your harmonica?

  • Harmonica key of A - played crossharp

  • ive been trying to play it but i just dont know how to play crossharp, its complicated

    any videos to help?

  • Check Adam Gussow - Blues Harmonica Secrets Revealed. He shows how to play cross harp with good technique. Good luck...

  • thanks for a beautifully faithful interpretation .... brilliant !!

  • Well thank you!!

  • Simply great!!! I really like playin' this song too. Cheers from Peru.

  • Thank you very much - how about a video of your version?

  • fantastic cover, absolutely fantastic

  • Thank you so much - your comment is very much appreciated.

  • Wow! You really nailed it. It sounds like you're hitting a lot of subtleties that I'm missing when I pick this song. This arrangement is probably my favorite thing that Dylan ever did. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks Simon - my favourite Dylan song too - you can pick up on how to play those "subtleties" if you follow my 4 "How to play...." videos. Good luck with the song.

  • Thank you very much

  • Incredible, really well done

  • Very enjoyable to listen to, any chance of putting up a slow version, just guitar? just to help us fans learn to play as good as you :)

This is the best cover I have heard so far, keep up the good work and many thanks for sharing.

  • 2nd "How to play" video coming up shortly. It will be slow and accessible. Thanks for your very kind comments.

  • Fantastic! I've subscribed with you and can't wait for a little tutorial on how to pick this beautiful song.

  • Thanks for your kind comment - I'm working on the tutorial & finding out how difficult it is to describe what's happening to the fingers! It's a new diversion for me but I'll give it my best shot.

  • thats my favorite song, great job. is that "how to play" video coming soon? that would be great, knowbody teaches it on youtube the way you play it.

  • Thanks for your interest - I will get to it and let you know when it's done.

  • awsome cant wait

  • Great cover. Note perfect. Bruce L. would be happy with this. Good harp too. The sound from Lowden v nice.

  • Thanks very much - I'm flattered you think the great Mr Langhorne would be happy with it! The guitar on this is a Norman but I play my Lowden on "Whispering Grass" and "If You Could Read My Mind"

  • amazing man, i think you captured dyaln's original intention for the feel and meaning of this song, truly great

  • Bless you - your comment is very much appreciated.

  • fantastic =)
