I'm Dutch, but I grew up on the Dutch/German border speaking a dialect that borrows heavily from German, and being exposed to a lot of German in the streets in Venlo (Germans love to go shopping there for some strange reason), and on German TV.
I never brought up such an argument! (With anyone. Ever.) For myself personally, Hitler's "views", beliefs, convictions, or whatever, pretty much placed him a category (which to me is nameless) where convictional classification becomes irrelevant. Much like what you said. By DEFINITION no one could call Hitler Christian. And atheism can't be legitimately be blamed for his behavior. What fool went there anyway? There's only one thing he can truly be called. And that's MONSTER!
I agree. There were definitely pretty horrible Atheists too. Stalin WAS an atheist, even though one may have a few things to say about whether his genocidal actions were actually inspired by him "not believing in gods", rather than trying to impose a totalitarian ideology on his people ;-)
The point of this video is that to bring up individual examples of Atheists (OR christians for that matter) who are or were horrible people is stupid.
you could likely scream this till you are blue in the face and there will still be assholes that insist he was an atheist and that he killed in the name of atheism. There are people that want to remain ignorant, sadly.
I don't care about the assholes. I care about making sure that everybody in the audience KNOWS that they're assholes. After that they can go stew in their own juice for all I care.
Claiming Hitler was not a christian makes me think that those folks are aping the goals and mechanisms of the Ministry of Truth (Minitruth) from Orwell's novel 1984, by trying to rewrite history the way they want it to be.
I think it doesn't matter whether Hitler was an atheist or a theist. It doesn't make the holocaust any more right. It still makes hitler a bad immoral person regardless.
No, the Catholic CHURCH was not responsable for his actions, but they DID nothing to stand in his way, and THAT made them just as guilty.
Vatican even recognised Hitler with the so-called authorisation law, so the parliament was send off-side and Hitler could govern with indefinite power.
Concordat Between the Holy See and the German Reich July 20, 1933 (Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933)
His Holiness Pope Pius XI and the President of the German Reich, moved by a common desire to consolidate and enhance the friendly relations existing between the Holy See and the German Reich, wish to regulate the relations between the Catholic Church and the State for the whole territory of the German Reich in a permanent manner and on a basis acceptable to both parties.
A couple of years ago there was a book I read that was from the notes of an American Doctor who attended to the health of the Germans who were being tried for war crimes in Nuremberg at the end of World War II. There were about 40 men mentioned in the book, and almost all of them professed to being either Catholic or Protestant. I believe there were 2 exceptions who believed in a primitive Ayran religion. No Atheists.
Indeed not. To point at those and go "HE is one of your crowd so YOU are all evil" is ridiculous.
Anyone who is familiar with the history of Christianity knows that millions of Heretics, Atheists, Jews, and Homosexuals were murdered in the name of Jesus.
Now the Christians are trying in vain to say that Atheists killed millions. Atheists don't kill people in the name of Atheism. However some Atheists have killed people for political reasons having absolutely nothing to do with religion.
It was never OK for Christians to murder just because other groups murdered people.

"Secular schools can never be tolerated because such a school has no religious instruction and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith . . . We need believing people."{Adolf Hitler. April 26, 1933, from a speech made during negotiations leading to the Nazi-Vatican Concordat of 1933.}
'Lord, make us free!' is transformed in the brain of the smallest boy into the burning plea: 'Almighty God, bless our arms when the time comes; be just as thou hast always been; judge now whether we be deserving of freedom; Lord, bless our battle!"
- Adolf Hitler's prayer, Mein Kampf, Vol. 2 Chapter 13
Any violence which does not spring from a spiritual base, will be wavering and uncertain. It lacks the stability which can only rest in a fanatical outlook. ~Adolph Hitler, Mein Kampf
Hitler is was not an atheist nor was he a Christian. He/they (nazis) believed in a cult the black sun eg swastika. Given i'm harassed by WNs on a daily basses i know more about these fucktards than most people.
Whatever; I really couldn't care less. Suffice to say that anybody who ever tells me that Hitler was an Atheist will get this video whacked around their heads.
I sometimes wonder if the Nazis' belief in those fabled Aryans and their "Blut und Boden" theory were intended as some kind of new religion for the next generation.
They were Christians, of course, but they also wanted to create a new Mythology to support their bizarre ideas, and somehow they needed to marry the two into something more or less consistent for the Volk to buy into. No wonder it's all over the place XD
Awesome. Of course I agree with you about it being completely irrelevant. But it is nice to have somewhere to point the morons when they come along. Thank you.
Sinterklaas is jarig?
People often say that God is just Santa Claus for adults, but it's more accurate to say that Santa Claus is God/Jesus for little children. The historic Nicholas supposedly raised a few butchered childen from the dead and saved a few sailors by answering their prayers and making a storm lie down. This made him the patron saint of sailors and children. He still carries a copy of the Book of Life around. The NL Sinterklaas throws bad children into the peppernut machine... Bloody hell! Cannibalism!
Where did you hear that? I thought that the men in black only used to do that in Auschwitz!
As a child I was told that all the bad children were put into the sack, taken back to Spain, and thrown into the peppernut machine, but nowadays the Sint & Pier are much less threatening.
They are not even allowed to throw those peppernuts around anymore, because that might injure people's eyes. And of course the Sint's beard needs to be fireproof, too!

Prophiscient 2 years ago
They were Christians, of course, but they also wanted to create a new Mythology to support their bizarre ideas, and somehow they needed to marry the two into something more or less consistent for the Volk to buy into. No wonder it's all over the place XD

Awesome. Of course I agree with you about it being completely irrelevant. But it is nice to have somewhere to point the morons when they come along. Thank you.

Sinterklaas is jarig! Hoera!
rozeboosje 2 years ago
Sinterklaas is jarig?

Hahaha! Leuk. Bedankt.

Yeah. Ugh. And we were told that Zwarte Piet would take us to Spain to make soap out of us if we didn't behave. Nice.

"Zwarte Piet would (...) make soap out of us..."
