@unchiman666 Actually, they did learn much of what they know from Buick. If you visit another link on here, a reviewer of the 2010 Lacrosse was exposing how Toyota studied Buick for several years in order to design the Lexus as their flagship. So basically, they copied from Buick and then expanded on it to one up them...unfortunately it worked, for a while, but looks to me like Buick is kicking them back to the curb.
gm copy's a euro car and they wonder why their losing business.. why not make a modern day 3.8 turbo like the grand national.. make it.. i dunno. AMERICAN!!
The regal is being made in Europe the first year its sold. then a year from now there going to build it in Oshawa, Ontario, close to where i live. my dads the quality manager for the regal and Camaro. Ive been in and driven both these cars. the Regal is very nice!
dont get me wrong, Buicks have made good cars in their past, but this is probally my favorite Buick! I dont care if its an Opel, I like the styling and the quality!
im actualy content with the gm configuration. chevrolet is for the common cars, buick is like an entry-level luxury, cadillac is meant to be total luxury. pontiac will live on in the form of holden in australia, opel is gm in europe it is like a euro fusion of chevrolet and buick and daewoo in korea. My only ogjection is the continuation of gmc.
Handsome looking car. But why base it on the Opel Insignia? Wouldn't it have been more cost effective to base it on the Chevy Malibu? It looks like it's just about the exact same size car.
I know GM owns Opel. But Opel is not sold in the US. That's why I was saying it seems like it'd be more cost-effective to base this Buick on the Malibu and build it in the same factory.
@ejswe - Thank God!! I fell in love when I first saw the Insignia show car and begged GM to bring it here! I figured it would be a Saturn, but it looks hella good as a Buick. For that matter, all the new Buicks look hot. Did I really just say that? Weird
as times are tough especially for the auto industry this is a wise move by GM to become more cost effective, it may not be the highest output of originality to simply rebadge a car to a domestic brand name, but since the insignia has performed remarkably well in europe/germany, (rightfully so, because it is truly a great car thathas already even been compared to the likes of mercedes & BMW here) and as people tend to think high about them that means something already. greetings from germany.
Nice car, but it looks exactly like the Opel Insignia. Even the commercial in the US seemed almost identical to the Opel commercial with the gay british guy using a lot of puffery words to described how it was designed. Thanks for the post.
It looks like the Insignia because it IS an Opel Insignia!!! the only difference is that it has a Buick badge, new front grille, and a new steering wheel!!!!!
Is this new Regal based on the Chevy Malibu/Saturn Astra? It's got the same basic shape and profile. Interior is real similar too. Looks better than those in my opinion though. Looks good! I'm guessing this Regal will be priced less than the new Lacrosse? Looks a tad smaller and as if it borrows a lot more pieces from other cars than does the Lacrosse. I'm kind of confused why it has a turbo 4cyl. though when Lacrosse comes with a NA 4cyl. standard.
The regal is one their first new global cars. Same car with different names sold in different countries saves the company money as well a improves overall quality worldwide.

GM drops a classic car like the Grand Prix but keep this "Grandpa" crusier around.
Can't wait to get stuck behind one of these being driving down the highway by people on their way to play bingo doing 20 under the speed limit in the passing lane. Most likely the left signal flashing for half an hour
lol depends on whos drivin regals come stock with a supercharger and over 200 horsepower... i race people all the time in mine because they underestimate it.
Trolls come when GM is on the move and this a great product. As said before GM owns Opel and has for over 75-80 years. They are a global company and now they are using there global resources more effectively. This is my next car with the turbo!!!! I'm 32 and would be proud to drive my 2011 Buick Regal.
I like the new Regal..and it's worth giving a serious consideration if I can save money and still have a comfortable, classy car. Huh, I sound like my grandfather.
well, considering it's sales and performance and it's consumer satisfaction here in germany, i have to say, yes this is a great car, it should be very competitive and help GM at these tough times getting back on track again.
Infiniti is the real deal until Gm can compete head to head with them and beat them
they are just whistling Dixie

two things. 1 sharing cuts cost and 2 buick and cadillac are no loger considered "Senior" cars, that is now Toyota's title. HA HA

@jesman1985 Opel is a subsidiary of the GM. That in essence means "your" Opel is American but made in Europe.

@im1greatman i know.. but the point is the body design is an Opel.. not a Buick.. i mean.. cmon..
jesman1985 1 year ago
@im1greatman No because it is designed and engineered by Europeans . And if you say that Dodge Jeep and Chrysler are Italian cars made in USA
visiteur00000 1 year ago
@im1greatman yes but the engineering was done totally by the people from opel not gm

It's not the same car, and the Opel is more premium.

i think it's kind of sad, It SHOULD be on the impala platform, since that's basically the last of anything close to a w-body.

@palebeachbum, it'd be the same thing . . . GM own Opel just like it owns Chevy.
