I'd forgotten how much I loved this album. I haven't owned it since I had it on cassette and listened to it on a Walkman in college.

Ok now I gotta say this...U2 is absolutely FABULOUS! Bono has a UNIQUE voice unlike all the damn SCREAMERS & monotone crap out there today. Alot of the voices out there today sound TOO MUCH alike or boring. His voice is so freakin' SEEEXXXXY!! The band has an overall fantastic sound & will forever remain timeless!

Actually this was when U2 were trying to cross Americana with their edgy sound it worked very well and it does draw some crossover with the desolation of small town America with the stark hardship of life in English mining towns, so both of you are right and wrong, U2 went through a phase of immersing themselves in various cultures to shape their music direction how someone interpets it does not really matter...anyway being Irish they very very seldom wrote about life in England.

This song is pivotal to the album. The album was a "dust bowl" concept. It explains what happened to the idealist that left his wife to seek his fortune.

Later, he cheats on her with a prostitute, and goes insane.

What a freakin' incredible album!!!
