  • I just have a small question. I thought what Obama actually said was that "we "control" only 2% of the worlds oil" Maybe I heard him wrong. I would love to hear the actual clip of Obama speeking. I assumed the word "control" allowed him to not count any oil in places he or the E.P.A. has banned. The word also allows him to not cout oil that needs to be brought up with methods his administration does not approve of.

Either way it was a deception not worthy of a president of the U.S.

  • BHO, aka Barry Soetoro, aka Harrison Bounel, aka Bari Shabazz, aka ad naseum isn't really lying; he's just practicing Taqiyya.

  • I would rather have someone lie to get us off Oil and actually move FORWARD with energy technology than have someone LIE to get us into a war that costs trillions and keep us ON oil so those companies can continue to push NEW technology out of new ground.

What a terrible socialist, communist, nazi, facist Obama is...Oh, and he told that lie while opening up almost 300 new rigs to pump oil and increase our oil output back to WWII levels...what a terrible terrible man. Idiots.

  • @rdrakken You're not properly keeping score, nor are you being rational. Obama lies nearly everytime he opens his mouth, so keeping track is full time employment. Oil moves the world... and will for the next 100 years, like it or not. Liberals and eco-terrorists refuse to allow development of *any* new baseline power generation, never mind needed sources like nuclear. They even routinely oppose wind turbines. It's simply ludicrous.

  • @RBR3000 Hurr Durr. That is all you needed to type, save yourself some time the next time you want to reply and just type that...you arent going to fool anyone other than those already fooled by this bullshit. The rest of us remember that before the pipeline was stopped the continually barrage of "This is Clinton croney capitalism" and "more Obama fed foreign oil to keep American oil down and prices up" from the far right.

Its always attack, because you dont stand for America, only for party.

  • @rdrakken False dichotomy. It doesn't have to be either of those options, and neither lie is acceptable. One lie being worse does not excuse another lie, and ends don't justify the means.

  • @BigBoogookie False dichotomy. calling someone out on false dichotomy in a thread on a video giving false dichotomy...lol.

The report he quotes, RH40872 includes things like RECOVERALBE oil and SHALE oil which no one in their right mind wants anywhere near where they live and if you remove those 2 things you are right back near the 2% statement made by the E&C and Obama because recoverable oil...is not a fucking oil reserve, a reserve is a RESERVE and all of it was based on PROVEN reserves...

  • I used to think Bill Clinton was the worlds best LIAR, and he is, he has not gotten caught, yet there are still those that think he was a good president, Obama is just as big a LIAR only he keeps getting caught.

  • They want us on solar, so they can bogart the good stuff!! :)~

  • What the hell is wrong with these government people are they really trying to treat us like we are stupid?

  • @Lunacaferadio of course they are, because they have always thought they are smarter and us just being dumbass rubes.

  • The president does not lie. He did NOT have sex with that woman. Barry is just stupid and does not know enough to realize he is telling a non truth.

  • We have over 400 years of crude oil in ND/SD

  • Obama lies our economy dies

  • this data has been out there for years and has only grown over time.

And as I mentioned before - it does not include Frozen Hydrates - which the USGS through it own pilot studies concluded can be extracted using standard drilling techniques. The estimates ranges upwards of 2000 years supply.

Whether you like it or not - the US economy has to be competitive in order for companies to invest. Look at what happened to Spain's economy when the rushed head long into "green solutions". DOA

  • Heh heh heh. You can bet your fat lil bottoms that the ones screaming "Racist" the loudest are the only racists here LOL. Take a look at your selves all you Race card holders..

I hated Obama's policies as soon as he enacted and slammed through Congress his mandated slavery bill.. How Ironic is it, that the first black President, reinstated slavery in the United States By forcing slave labor on people to buy a mandated product.. hating a persons policies or actions does not make one a racist :)

  • What's a lie is this SOB. We DO need to invest in clean energy. It wouldn't matter if there were trillions of barrels of oil available.

I despise this shithead and the "Hate Obama at all costs, even the environment and truth don;t matter. Hate Obama, you racist SOB.

  • It's interesting how liberals, when they have no facts to back up their arguments, resort to personal attacks and profanity in their feeble attempts to make their points.

  • @cmille23 It's interesting how right wing-nuts, when they have nothing but lies to tell, will resort to deny, distract, delay, and distort. Where are your facts? Don't have any? I didn't think so.

Try going to the politifact site and check out which side is doing the most lying. Then, if you dare, come back and apologize for being such a moron.

  • @PhuqueUTube3 To which facts are you referring? The ones touted by the gentleman in the video? That's between you and him. My post was regarding the comments made by you and others. Conservatives and Libertarians tend to rely on logic to make their decisions whereas Liberals tend to be guided by feelings and emotional reactions. My comment about liberals resorting to profanity and name-calling when then are unable to refute an argument is not factually based. It is simply an observation.

  • Comment removed

  • @PhuqueUTube3 Wow you are so enlightened. How old are you?

  • @nord98 Probably older than most of the mental midgets that post on here. Certainly more enlightened than the fool in the video.

  • @PhuqueUTube3 Such hostility for a guy reading government data. You appear a tad troubled. Have you sought help?

  • @nord98 I admit, I have a character flaw. I have never dealt well with stupidity such as his or yours. Yes, they are supposed to be government figure. As my father said, "Figures don't lie, but liars can figure."

Add in extreme prejudice and stupidity, and people like you will believe anything.

Yes, I am hostile toward willful ignorance. That's why I think you are a moronic asshole.

  • @PhuqueUTube3 So attack him for reading it?

You know the data is a lie because you are an expert in??

  • @nord98 You misunderstood me statement. Any data can be used to support a lie. Numbers are very sensitive, twist them enough and they will tell you anything.

I also know the "Patriot Network". They are an extreme right wing organization that hates Obama so much they will say and do anything to disparage him. He doesn't deserve it for the reasons they give. He deserves criticism for being just another politician that's controlled by the money men. What has he done differently than Bush?

  • @PhuqueUTube3 Boy you are just filled with hate and rage and hide behind the racist BS. If the TeaParty is so racist - why the support for Cain, West and others.

Do you see how your argument is complete nonsense? No you can't - that is the problem. Lalalander.

So time to crawl back to your hole.

  • @nord98 How about you go fuck yourself, you ignorant piece of shit. If you talked like that to my face, I'd beat you into a bloody bag of broken bones, you cowardly asshole.

  • @nord98 Wow what passes for liberal civility these days. I would have absolutely no problem saying this to your face. I am not afraid of the truth or you. Given your rage, profanity and disconnected logic you should fear yourself.

Once again - the man read from government figures that have been around for decades but rather make cogent argument that refutes the data - you attack the messenger. This is a form of derangement. Seek help.

Seriously. (Stay off any drug not prescribed.)

  • @nord98 Exactly HOW is my argument complete nonsense? Like most tea party morons, you think because you say something it is automatically true. Either offer proof or slink back under your rock.

  • @PhuqueUTube3 The Government doesn't need to "Invest" in anything. Let capitalism work.

Oh, and we don't "Hate Obama at all costs". We're just tired of his trying to turn the country into a socialist country. I think I'll puke if I hear "they should pay their fair share" one more time. I think they should clean up the tax code and EVERYONE should have a minimum tax to pay and that means you Mr Troll. So go Phuque Ureself somewhere besides UTube...

  • This summary is great - but it missing a BIG energy component - Frozen Hydrates (ie frozen methane). The estimates range as high as 2000 years!!!!

    Look it up!

  • @nord98 Yup....

  • @nord98 Yup....

  • These posts indicate that the American education system is a total failure. I have never read so many uninformed adhominum attacks on a person who is simply reading the facts as they are published. EROI is nothing more than a predetermined conclusion or formula that is flawed in its basic assumptions.

  • Death to the New World Order!

  • So, this guy considers coal to be oil, although... coal ISN'T oil. Also, the us has 19.12 bbl of oil in its reserves. The top 17 countries added together, have 1,243 bbl. So, in that top 17 countries, the us has 1.5% of the worlds oil reserves. So, Obama is correct. Stop being sheep people, do some math, and don't believe some guy who considers coal oil. See, coal IS a fossil fuel.

  • @CAPTBENWILLARD The fact that other people ARE dumb.

  • In reading the comment by kenfo0 and the response by 7722993, we know a few facts: Kenfo0 was correct in substance. "77" did not like that one bit, and so instead of talking about facts, she attacked kenfo0. What does draft dodging have to do with "77" clearly having no idea what she was talking about? Nothing. Then "77" goes on a rant about borders? Again, nothing to do with anything. Looking down the page, we see a pattern of "77" replying to posts TO THE POSTER, and they are the same....

  • this is complete horseshit

really professor - you need to do some research

production rates and eroi are all that matter -

hell uranium is in ocean water...what's the problem...right...good grief.

  • @roccman2003 Dude ass, you need to lay off the COOL-AIDE. Leroy Obummer is even worse then Jimmy " I'll never lie to you " Carter. Dems. are losers, get rid of that party, it's over.... You have NO Idea what your talking about.

  • @7722993 while i don't like carter or obama one bit, I've got to say you harm any "conservative" cause. you can't even spell correctly. You are simply a partisan moron. the economy tanked under bush. obama has continued every major bush policy. how the fuck retards like you or the partisan obama supporters don't see what is happening is proof you are too dumb to be weighing in. Good Americans used to know " I'm not too bright, i should be quiet.". I long for those days.

  • @kenfo0 Just the response I would expect from, a foul-mouthed can't take the truth half bake, probably a

draftdodger too. Your just another leach that lives off of the hand outs that everybody else has to pay for. I wonder how many section 8's you have. The Canadian and Mexican borders are still open, so get the hell out of my country. "Yes you are not bright" Just another dim-wit or you probably would prefer Nit-wit.

  • @roccman2003 could you please explain the third line in your above comment? Specifically, production rates and EROI?

  • @solzanna sure - eroi is energy returned on energy invested - corn ethanol did not work because it is a net energy sink. oil today is about 1:10 (1 barrel of oil to get 10 barrels); in 1859 it was around 1:100 - in other words the BTU content of a barrel of oil/shale/tar sands is and has been declining since the 70s. Simply - the low hanging fruit is gone - tar sands/oil shale are enormous energy consumers. Now to your production rates - we pump around 1000 barrels per second globally.

  • The President said "oil reserves" but you include all "fossil fuels" (including coal) to challenge his statement. A false comparison.

In addition, figures on "recoverable oil" are not interchangeable with figures on usable oil reserves, since much of it is not easily recoverable.

Example: Oil from shale in the Green River area, though "recoverable", is not easily recoverable, as there is not enough water available for the extraction process (All Green River water shares are already allocated).

  • Sorry its only 6 trillion 290 billion. Either way were no where near that at 19.1 billion in proved oil

  • Do some research Professor before you LIE about our oil. If you multiply our daily consumption by 900 years it comes out to 624,150,000,000,000 barrels of oil... give or take a couple trillion. YES PEOPLE THAT'S 624 TRILLION

  • @MDGREALTOR That's still over 257 years of energy independence from countries that don't even treat humans as humans, you liberal queef.

For goodness sakes, you care more about interrupting the migratory pattern of some stupid lizard in Alaska while you buy gas from and fund countries who don't even let their women drive a car....you sorry ass hypocrites.

  • @stopstickers very well said.

  • U.S. Petroleum Consumption

    19,148,000 barrels/day

  • U.S. proved reserves of oil total 19.1 billion barrels, reserves of natural gas total 244.7 trillion

cubic feet, and natural gas liquids reserves of 9.3 billion barrels. Undiscovered technically

recoverable oil in the United States is 145.5 billion barrels, and undiscovered technically

recoverable natural gas is 1,162.7 trillion cubic feet. The demonstrated reserve base for coal is

488 billion short tons, of which 261 billion short tons are considered technically recoverable.

  • Yay Yavapai!!! Mr. Professor I was able to get in to your prestigious college without providing any transcripts. They told me to come down, of course I didn't because I value my education.

  • @stephenebeaulieu

Google "Congressional Research Service oil reserves"

  • I agree with the fact that we do have more than enough oil to last for a while along with coal but wouldnt everyone agree to some degree that the health impacts from using these fuels is enough motivation to look for more green energy options.

  • I checked Prof Lovells claims against reliable industry and government sources, ie. the CIA. The USA now ranks 14th for known domestic petroleum reserves. Intentional misinformation such as this that has lead Americans into the polarization and intransigence the world is witnessing today. Good luck in resolving the economic, social and governance problems that are dragging America down.

  • @stephenebeaulieu tis true. I'd post the link but youtube won't let me.

  • Why do current and past U.S. politicians continue to block us from utilizing energy resources in our own country?? It just doesn't make sense.

  • BOOM!!

Game - Set - Match - Dr. Lovell

  • We may have the reserves, but are we willing to rape beautiful lands like Montana and Alaska to get it? And can we ethically? And can we with the strict land protections we have? Oil reserves and oil production are two entirely different things.

  • @nexus1g Any energy source involves environmental impacts, so unless you wish to live in a hut, nexus, and go back to smoke signals (as opposed to the modern fossil fuel using computer you are typing on right now) then pick your poison. You can choose a modest oil field producing enough energy to power millions of homes and industries (jobs) or you can cover 100 times the land with windmills to get 1/100th the energy and kill a bunch of eagles...Nuclear, Natural gas, Coal, Shale, and Oil rule...

  • @nexus1g BTW our current energy policy is raping the American economy and thereby the American working middle class. To say we would "rape" lands like Montana implies destroying a whole state and, of course, that is not what would happen, would it Nexus??? The result of us harvesting our vast fossil resources would be a strong economy and lots of high paying jobs and better national security. With modern drilling and mining methods the impacts are small and manageable...

  • @mrsmeow61 Sorry to burst your bubble, but living in a hut would be a hell of a lot better than what we have going right now.

  • Billion Barrel equivalence of "fossil fuels" would include shale and coal since they are also called fossil fuels. Even so, OIL deposits in Alaska are greatly under estimated publicly.

  • Trick Question: How can you tell when a democrat is lying?

  • The Obamabots use their tongues as weapons to defend their leader and to destroy our country from within. Truth be told.

  • And.......I heard that Alaska wants to build a pipeline to the West Coast of Alaska......to ship oil to China????????? Why aren't we using this oil instead of getting it from the Arabs???????

  • He is technically accurate in quoting #'s but the message is misleading.....he was mixing barrels of oil equivalent reserves (mainly coal and gas in the US) with actual oil reserves. There is also a difference between resource potential and actual economic reserves . There are large quantities of oil potential in Utah but the industry has not figured out how to produce profitably with current environmental rules.

Still agree with the conclusion that US has lots of energy sources.

  • This is a classic logical fallacy and an interesting study in propaganda.

The President's said, "America holds about 2% of the world's proven oil resources."

However, Mr. Lovell does not give specific statistics countering the specific claim, but rather, holds out a report, demonstrating a huge disparity and calling the President liar.

  • @heavydpj Well isn't the president parsing pretty!

  • But wait - what are "fossil fuel reserves?" Fossil fuel reserves are ALL available fossil fuels-coal, natural gas AND oil.

As Lovell correctly states, we have lots of natural gas and coal, but he fails to say that we have very little proved oil reserves.

The professor also attempts to bolster his point - pointing to "barrel of oil equivalents" which is another way of saying "coal and natural gas energy."

The actual report, here, tells a different story than the professor's selected readings.

  • "Proved reserves are those amounts of oil, natural gas, or coal that have been discovered and defined, typically by drilling wells or other exploratory measures, and which can be economically recovered."(pg 2)

The report says, "U.S. proved reserves of oil total 19.1 billion barrels"(pg 2)

The world total of proved reserves = 1,184 - 1,342 billion barrels according to the EIA. Simple math says that 19.1 divided by 1,184 and 1,342 comes to 1.6% or 1.4% of the natural reserves

  • The high number of barrel equivalents are all "recoverable" or shale oil. It is not a true comparison, it's apples and oranges. Particularly since these oil shale fields are in wildernesses, protected lands, national parks, and pristine areas, that most people in America don't want trampled.

  • @brianlbaker We'll see if the people don't want it "Trampled" (bogus argument alert!!) when the coming economic firestorm sweeps across this country. You think its been tough lately? You haven't seen nothing yet!

  • @talonspoint First, it is not a bogus argument - Watching Yellowstone destroyed with mountaintop removal mining, simply won't sit well All my fellow hunters would be up in arms to have pristine areas of the country trampled by corporations that pay no taxes. You didn't address the poisons such mining creates, or the exorbitant costs to get to much of this back country. By the way, nice name, very scary. :)

  • continued... I don't know if all of those countries we have more of it than have less than two percent. I am not saying your wrong but you need to keep your measurements the same for ease and creditability. i.e. "x billions of barrels, which is x% of the world reserves, which is x billions of barrels" see how that provided sources then a forward and backward comparison. well, think about it.

  • @wb5plj Agree...had the same thought, would like to know how those stats fit back into the original measurement. Not saying the basic premise of the video is wrong, but would like to hear these numbers put back into the "% of world reserves" which is what BHO was quoted as saying.

  • I do have one other comment for Mr Lovell. you mentioned the volume or resources in your reference material. i.e. "billions of barrels" but you never tried to turn this into a percentage of world reserves which was the metric used by the president. you see I don't know what the world oil reserves are so I have no way of knowing if what we have is more than two percent.

  • These comments are all intresting but they are going on about the details of the reserves or how easy they are to get or toxic or non toxic. it seems to me the point of the video is that the President lied or had research material that was very poor considering that it came from the white house.

  • "oil reserves" aren't the same as "fossil fuel resources" or "barrel of oil equivalent" or "oil shale deposits" In this video, this guy is as dishonest as any politician

  • @rocchief did you get blocked from the vid?

  • "Peak Oil" theorists are in one of two groups: Absolute dolts who don't have, or don't want to have an understanding about the worlds energy supply. Or, politically motivated and willing to skew the truth, or outright lie with an "ends justify the means" philosophy. Clearly, Obama here is in the 2nd group, trying to dupe the first. By the time we realize we have more oil than we can ever use, we won't need it anymore. This will happen naturally. Politics aren't needed, just a free market.

  • @mysportscloud you didn't post any fact to back your position. you simply said "othur peepul r dumm". that is not to be believed. so, what facts do you have?

  • Take the worlds proven oil reserves and divide it by the worlds daily consumption. Its around 40 years from today. While we do have a lot of natural gas, there is no infrastructure to support this. The U.S. knows this and is positioning our military around the world to fuel future wars. The rate of new findings will not even cover the yearly increase in demand. Many powerful interests have suppressed alternative methods for years such as using seawater or "infinite" batteries.

  • I do like a man who knows how to do accurate research! Thank you.

  • What a dishonest load of crap! Coal, natural gas and oil are all "fossil fuels," so, when he puts up his fancy bar graph, he is not telling you we have more oil than any other country. He is telling you we have more combined fossil fuels. This is only true because of our enormous deposits of coal and natural gas. We don't run cars and planes on coal and natural gas. We don't make plastic out of coal and natural gas.

  • @lakerdc1 To quote an idiot that knows nothing about what they are talking about... "What a dishonest load of crap!"

Oil shale deposits alone in holes already drilled, or ready to be drilled have enough crude in them to provide the US with oil at the current rate of consumption for at least 200 years. The numbers of different studies all vary, but 200 YEARS is the smallest number out there.

So before you make an ass of yourself again, pull your head out of it.

  • @lpburke86 I'm not going to resort to the insults and name calling used by you. I for some reason thought we were talking about oil that can actually be drilled. The statement, "Oil shale deposits alone in holes already drilled, or ready to be drilled..." demonstrates your clear lack of understanding of the issue. Oil shale, currently, can only be refined by mining the rock, and hauling it to a facility that then crushes and heats the rock. The result is not oil, but kerogen.

  • @lakerdc1 Thank you.

  • @lpburke86 Continuing... Kerogen then must be refined for use. The entire process is extremely expensive and not particularly profitable. Additionally, you produce more toxic waste than the rock you mined. The material remaining cannot be dumped because it contains many toxins that will leach into all ground water.

The only other process used is currently experimental, but involves heating the ground to 700degrees for 3-4 years while freezing the ground water so it doesn't kill us all.

  • @lakerdc1 Just wondering how one would produce more toxic waste than rock that you mined. That's like gaining a pound because you ate a 4 oz. piece of chocolate cake!

  • @MauiMedicineMan I'm glad you asked. It's really quite simple actually. When the Kerogen is leached out of the shale, the rock becomes a dry powder called semi-coke that is actually 25% more voluminous that the rock originally mined. Think of it like this... If you take a spoonful of powdered sugar and drip a little water on it, what happens? Your fluffy sugar becomes a paste, and seems to shrink in size. The mass has actually increased, but the volume has decreased.

  • @MauiMedicineMan continued...

In a similar, but opposite order of operations, process, shale mining removes the binding liquid leaving a toxic powder that takes up much more space. Also, much like powdered sugar, the poisonous powder can easily be picked up by wind. All of this means we are left with a poison that quickly mixes with water (think powdered sugar), can be carried miles by wind, and takes up more space than the hole it was mined from.

  • @lakerdc1 So the earth that the oil is locked into is toxic? Hmmmmm, guess the old saying of "It's safer because it's natural." doesn't apply here.

  • Obozo has to convince us that we're broke including denying our natural resource potential so that they can stage our economic collapse and use it as an excuse to strip us of our Constitution, pass our sovereignty off to the U.N. & establish a global currency. They have to destroy the old world before they can usher in the new one!

  • Fighting through the lies with solid research! Keep fighting the good fight Mr. Lovell!

  • People wake up!

  • People need to wake and realize that we are heading towards a one world govt. Bush and Obama, are merely puppets in the whole scheme.

    WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!

  • Barack lied? No way. I don't believe it. :-)..I think it would be news if he WASN'T lying. I can't wait for election time.

  • @cpmower I can't wait for election time, either. The rethugnicans seem to be in a contest to find the most ignorant biased, intolerant jerk they can to run for president. I used to think they couldn't do worse than GWB, but I was wrong. Never fear, the Democraps have some genuine losers in the wings, too. For example, Hillary Clinton.

  • @PhuqueUTube3 That is why I identify with neither party. I am a Constitutional Conservative. :-) Ronald Reagan was the last GOOD President imho. But the republicans have the best choices running right now. ANYONE is better than Obama.

  • @cpmower Anyone? You think Bachmann, Palin, or Perry would be a good choice? The USA is close to being a de facto theocracy now. One of those morons could push it over the edge. No, I don't think Hilary Clinton would be a good choice, either.

Before BHO was elected, I knew that he was just another politician. When he did anything he promised, his detractors would be furious. When he couldn't do something, his followers would be furious. That seems to be the case exactly. No win, no way.

  • Just as previous presidents, he's a NWO puppet who reads the teleprompter.

  • Obama fights wars for the NWO to take control of middle east oil and at the same time bankrupts us at home making us very vulnerable to the same crooks, its diabolical..... All this and congress just looked the other way and the people were too involved in just trying to keep their homes and have enough gas to get to work and still trusting their govt like the old days.

  • all obama has to do is open his mouth to lie!!!

  • This truth has been known concerning our countries wealth of oil for quite some time. When, I ask when is our American ignorance & apathy concerning this serious matter going to end. This truth is mind boggling. Come on America, let's get the word out and take some legal action-class action!
