Mercy, I like your point about the guys getting to "grieve" when someone (i.e. "the one with the mustache", lol) gets killed. I'll give it that. The son/dad bit was a bit cheesy - 'tho as a parent I am a sucker for those plotpoints! ;)
@GabnDad Thanks! Agreed on the son/dad bit. I did like what they did with the dad though. Nice to see helpless citizens occasionally step up and stand tall among the heroes.
The aliens in 'Skyline' were better... at least the acting in this one wasn't absurdly atrocious... But if you watch the trailer and think to yourself "hey the aliens are going to unleash a giant robot at some point" then you are sadly mistaken :(
You're making me think about what Ebert says about video games not being art. What makes Battle: Los Angeles so much different than a modern first person shooter?
@ArmchairDirectors "I see your Gary Oldman and raise you Michelle Rodriguez. :)"LMAO that has to be the funniest thing I have ever read. I hope you were joking.
I think ID4 is a great movie. Maybe a bit over the top but really enjoyable. Saw the preview for this and wasn't sure if I'd like. It looks like it was shot like Cloverfield wich I didn't like. After your review I think I'll give it a miss. I liked Aaron Eckhart in Thank You For Smoking.
@GhostOfBane It's not as doc-style as Cloverfield. There are quiet a few moments that aren't horribly shaky. I can't stand shaky cam, skipped the last two Bourne movies because of it, but this one didn't bother me too much. And if you like Eckhart, than you might want to check this one out. He gets plenty of screen time, some good dramatic moments, and a great character from start to finish.
@AngusSgXD Nope, haven't seen Rabbit Hole, but if Eckhart is in it, that's good enough for me. The sign getting blown to bits would have been a bit too "Hollywood" for this flick (pardon the pun). They went for a more gritty style than ID4 (with all of the landmarks being obliterated for the wow factor).
I mean District 9 was awful though

That's a trailer's job, baby. Get you to buy a ticket, regardless of how good he actual movie is. :)
