Thanks for your vid! Just curious: were you born in Israel? You speak with an American accent, so I wasn't sure. A couple more questions: Do you ever come across Hebrew Israelites living in Israel? I'm talking about Americans (Black) who moved to Israel about 40 years ago & are still moving. How are they perceived? And finally ... are your ancestors from the Tribe of Judah? Is this why you say you're a "Jew" or is that a more generic term. Thanks again! This vid is really educational.
@evethezealot I was born in America, but my family are from Senegal, France, and Spain. My ancestors were mix part of Israel in ancient times. Concerning what tribe. That is up for speculation for some of this at this point. Saying we are Yisraeli is enough. I am not a part of any of the hebrew israelite groups so I don't know much about them.
@felashalij It's not just the skin. It's the culture, the social habits, the inherited intelligence, the physical characteristics (nose shape, forehead slant, etc). There is a reason why people say that blacks are similar to monkeys. I'm not saying that they are, but I am saying that is a reason why throughout history racism has occurred and blacks were labeled this and that. There are reasons for everything and racism will always exist.
@redarrowhead2 The funny thing is though that a majority of Africans don't even meet that kind of physical criteria. Besides there are scientists who claim that all humans come from monkeys. I think of all that stuff is just political fodder for the ages.
@felashalij I would disagree that the dark skin light skin issue exists in ALL African American communities. There are a lot of communities where it doesn't. Google the issue doesn't do anything because what is on the internet is only a smal microcasim of actual reality.
would be accepting towards you, because of their blood. Me personally, we didn't mix with them, which is really obvious people don't even guess we're chabashims, they usually think we're sephardi or mizrahi. Our family was sort of lets say picky, so they made it impossible for any kind of mixing except for once which was long ago and it was portuguese. The singer Cabra Cassay for example is definitely not a pure bred ethiopian jew, she's from some cushitic tribe from the south.
there is no official hierarchu policy in israel, they intermingled with their own slaves who seemed to over populate them and even the jews that lived in larger cities in ethiopia mixed with their slaves and other ethnic groups of ethiopia. It is really, I mean, really rare to find an ethiopian jew who hasn't mixed with the baryas. Sine the black gene is dominant it will have effect on the off spring having one of the most darkest ethiopian population in the world in israel. That's why they...
obviously some ethiopian -israeli's are rude to african americans.....haha they were the top dog slave owners back in ethiopia, which most people don't know about. Before they got extremely dark, like their slaves, they owned slaves from the south and west and sold them to amharas who would sell them to arabs and kept some to themselves and converted them the slaves would be called ''barya-falasha''. Then according to the law of return the slaves were brought with them to israel and since ...
Rudeness can be found in any people around the world. I know some Ethiopian Israelis who felt like they were treated rude by African Americans in America. That is all relative because people make choices. Concerning the whole Ethiopian Jew slave issue you brought up that point would highly debatable since there are some people who say that Ethiopian Jews were only in existance for 500 or so years, while some say that various groups were there earlier. Once again all relative.
Middle East has and will always be TRIBAL---NOT Nationalist based. Israel was never a country---it is made up of and has been a TRIBE---that only recently converted (several hundred years ago post diaspora) Eastern Europeans who now count themselves as Jewish though they are "Ashkenazi" Jews---not from the original Tribe of Judah or "Jew."
Actually there are a number of nations that have been the middle east. The Asyrians, the Babylonians, the Persians, etc. were all nations. There was a nation called Yisrael, which is why the Assyrians have records that they conquered it. Also, the Quran says that a nation called Yisrael existed. Also, there is a Moabite stone that mentions the Beith Dawith. Also, the majority of Israelis are of Mizrahi (Middle Eastern ancestry.)
I'll never forget a article printed in The Chicago Tribune that Isreal admitted the Ethiopian were in fact the original Jew. This was after Isreal decided to go in and rescue the forgotten during the 1980 famine years. Sadly in wasn't on the front page nor reported on any major television news outlet.
Thanks for posting, I just fell upon your videos in the last 1/2 hour, and pleased to find you. I'm fascinated to know if you are born into Yiddishkeit, or a convert? I don't mean to pry, I just thirst for knowledge of Jewish culture. I know a lot of black people in the chassidic community, some are converts, some are many generations Jews. Peace.
Greetings. Thanks for checking out my video. If you go to Episodes 3: What Makes Me, Me? and 13: My Musical Tastes I talk about my background in those two videos.
We just love your perspective on race and skin color Ehav. We are amazed at your courage and desire to explore Judaism in Israel with such intensity and passion.
Thanks ladies. In the past I was more prone to just keeping things to myself. I must say that you guys have inspired me to talk more about it. So thank you Mixed Chicks.
that ethnic thing is a big problem for blacks. One thing about blacks they like to do is distance themselves from each other.
