Wow, that's colorful! All of the ones I see in aquariums are much duller than this one. Since you're in Florida and they aren't a native species, I would not release them back into the local bodies of water. Are you allowed to sell them to pet shops? A midas of that size could easily fetch $20 in a good aquarium shop, maybe even more.
@karizma7648 Actually it's not an "artificial breed," it's a pure Amphilophus citrinellus, they arent hybrids, they just aren't native to US waters, they are from central America.
i used to fish for bait fish with a real tinny hook the smalles i could find like half a cenemiter across lol and i used a piece of fishing line like 3 feet long and i cought one of those and a cat fish also
Wow you can really see him in the water. Nice catch brother! The cichlids here in Texas look pretty drab compared to the Midas. He is not native is he?
@CBeans420 No cichlids are not native to South Florida but they make you feel like they were because they are easy to catch and blend into the ecosystem very well
you need to hit up the canal systems they are very easy to spot (super bright) but they can be tricky to catch, atleast for me it has since i only use lures and jigs
I live in Hollywood florida and fish around here and in the everglades off of griffin and never seen one. Someone told you to go to miami but I dont know what part.
@yournamehere954 They go as far up as Miramar and then go all the way down to the everglades I catch them in random canals in most communities I live in Sunset Lakes and they are reguarly stocked and are very easy to get them to strike with bread and very small lures but are hard to hook their larger cousins the mayan cichlids go a bit more north and strike a wide variety of lures and live baits good luck :)
@zuzu778 I live in Tamarac. I dont ever see them here. I use to live in Hollywood and do not see them here as well. I do get alot of oscars here in tamarac and mayans and spotted tilapia in Hollywood. Could you give me directions to a pond in miramar that may have some? Thanks in advance. Drew
@yournamehere954 Well I live in Sunset Lakes and there is a canal behind the house and there are a few I've only seen two though and I've caught them but I haven't seen them for like a month So really I don't know But try any thing in Suset Lakes the fishing is amazing since alot of old people live here they don't go fishing and when they do it's all for tilapia so the mayans grow huge and so do the bream good luck!
what type of cichlids can i catch in texas i live in spring and wat if i release a male and female oscar in my canal and they have fry will oscar star sprouting up or will i go to jail im looking for a convict
yes all over miami in the canals....catch em with everything from braed balls to worms and minnows. ............... they taste like crap ........don't eat em!!!!!!
yeah but once you catch one you'll like them, they are just harder to catch then a peacock or a bass.and sometimes catching the same fish over and over can get to me so i like going for othere types fights pretty good too.thanks though
I get what you mean. I still prefer my peacock bass. We are so spoiled here. People pay a lot of money to fish for them and I catch them daily. I am thinking of starting a guide service on foot.
lol thats tru we are so spoiled here in south florida.yo i saw those grass carp you guys caught,i know these 2 spots where i have seen them at around 50lbs+ i'll see if i can get hooked up with one of those giants hopefully i will have it online soon.guide service on foot?? but wouldn't that give up your secret spots
if they are around they are very easy to spot cuz of how bright they are, on how to catch them i use this little crappie jig and drag/bounce by them and just hope he goes for it,but they usually will ignore the jig.pretty much luck i guess

If you want it to survive don't leave it out of water so long, however they are an introduced species so I guess no harm done if it died?
thebigwarthog 8 months ago
You could easily get $100-$150 a fish if you shipped them out to hobbyist. May not be legal though since I don't think Midas are native to Fla.
