  • Not worth shit I hear about 3min or 5 min how about 30min and beyond!!!

  • wtf 3 minutes ? to load a blu ray disc ? mine JBL blu ray set it takes only 4 seconds to load all of mine blu ray movies XD

  • Man, just buy a PS3.

  • You can't upgrade this? I know they offer the firmware-How does it connect, though?

  • @trayci576 burn it to a dvd or cd

  • Oh dear they didn't think it though with uploading firmware! Not worth buying is it!

  • Just got mines dont buy thiis product is lame!! Wont ever buy sony againg this is a waste of time!! Waited 5minutes to play a movie are these ppl nuts?? Trash just trash sony..

  • got rid in the end and upgraded. all cool now :)0

  • It is a dummy load device, it does not upgrade correctly, and fails, mine only played 3 bluray films then gave up the ghost !

Rubbish device, so now I have a Panasonic bluray.

So far it is still working.I will never buy Sony again for sure.

  • i have a problem with this BR i tried to create the update cd 6 times but every time i tried to play the update discs the message is allways the same cannot play disc somebody know what am i doing wrong!?

    Thanks...

  • Apparently you have to burn it to DVD, not CD.....

  • I just updated mine no probs. You must burn as image, finalize, and it must be to a CD-R only. Not DVD, or CD-RW. If you are having issues, sony will also send you a disk upon request. Latest version is 4.90 which includes Dolby encoding and the latest BD Java compatabilites. Works fine and now plays all the latests disks error free.

  • @DarkSithLord69 you can get them from sony for free they work better

  • I've just put firmware 4.20 into my blu-ray- and it seems to be taking 'ages' to download- the disc ejected and the player turned off and has been for about an hour now??

The load instructions said not to take disc out or turn on.

But surely it doesn't take this long??

    Any advice please?

  • I have one, got it 5 weeks ago. Won't load discs, "cannot play" ETC., Sony don't help with their rubbish firmware upgrades. This is an absolute turkey...don't buy it

  • hey i have the same problem right now, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. the disc is out but the players not on. what should i do? i've been waiting for around 2 hours now =(

  • iv got this player and to do the firmware update is a total nightmare!!is there an easy way to update :(

  • absolutely same here shit I should have just went with PS3!!!

  • The 4.20 firmware upgrade allows the BDP S300 to decode Dolby Tru HD

  • i have this blu ray disc player and i cannot play Universal Movies (ie): Miami Vice, Hulk, etc

  • same i can't play valkyrie or australia.

  • If you upgrade to the 4.20 firmware, load time is much faster.

  • PlayStation 3 has no troubles with loading up discs. It is so quick.

  • thats the best blue ray! we have it

  • What's the difference between the BDP-S300 and the BDP-S500??? Someone answer this please. Thank you.

  • the bdp-s500 has a flapper-door on it like the bdp-s2000es, the bdp-s300 doesent have it

  • That's it? So the quality is the same then?

  • i guess so

  • Thanks. I'll get a BDP-S300 then since its cheaper.

  • the bdp s500 supports true hd and master, audio technology(better audio source)... basically u can hook it up to a receiver that supports 7 speakers... however u can hook up the bdp s300 to a 7.1 receiver as well and still have it work to as long as it can decode 7.1... basically the only difference in my honest opinion is the audio capabilities... i just bought this unit and im totally satisfied.

  • Thanks, but what about the picture quality? Is the BDP S500 and the BDP S300 the same when it comes to Picture Quality? At Best Buy they were showing a scene from Spider-Man 3 on Blu-Ray and it looked like a home made video. What all do I need to make it look like this?

  • a tv that supports 120Hz motion enhancer....thats what you saw my friend.

  • The BDP-S500 is Dolby True HD and is 7.1

  • morbidgoth2u, you do not have to get a firmware update disk from sony. You can download the updates online and burn it to a dvd and load it into the player.

  • this blu ray player will deliver a superior quality picture.. however u must remember if your source(television) is not hd compatible or supports 1080 p ur picture will not look that good.. Even if your tv is 720p to me its a waste to buy a blu ray player considering it puts out 1080p

  • this model won't play those bd-r's you made on the pc. you will need the $700 model or higher for that. in order to update firmware you will need to obtain the disc from sony(free) every 3-6 months to stay updated. only $50 from ps3. sony is coming out with a new model mid '08 that will read special area of disc.

  • I downloaded the latest firmware (3.70), burned it to a CD, waited 15 minutes or so for it to copy and write to flash. It did not fix any issues I was having (see my comment from a couple of months ago).

I just set the player to 1080i...it makes no difference to me.

  • ps3 is awesome and blu-ray is unbelievable!

  • its haves no dolby true hd did he say that then its nogood buy PS3

  • what a cheap design ugly thats to long to start a movie .that should cost like 200 bucks only

  • All dvd and blu ray designs are ugly

    xDDD

The video game consoles and PC are the only things that look good

  • I get sync issues with mine. But I don't have to wait 3 minutes to watch a movie.

My issue exists with my Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver & Mitsubishi WD-Y57 television at 1080p. No, it's no the cable and yes I've tried hooking it directly into the back of the Mitsu, same problem. Works great at 1080i.

Stacking components. No problem. My Toshiba HD-A20 HD DVD player sits on the BDP-S300.

All said...$11,500 worth of equipment and I can watch 1080p (80% of the time when it works right).

  • Bad deal.
