@e1337air Often when Bach's compositions were the same shape, they had many more voices and staggered entrances making it a fugue. With one voice playing, it just seems to be a common place composition. I'm not saying it's bad, but it couldn't be distinguished from a Necrophagist, Through the Eyes of the Dead, or many other death metal solos. If that's all you want, then you are on the right track, but if you want something more all you need to do is explore theory more.

well then the best thing to do is learn solos from songs to get ideas. i dont know what level of playing youre at but the first guitar solos i started learning were iron maiden, then i worked my way up to megadeth etc...

@minzulla just learn some pentatonic scales and rock out to some classic rock or blues backing tracks. Then when you're ready to move on, learn some of the major mode shapes. You'll realize how easy soloing can be. Just use a certain shape of your choice in the key of the rhythm guitar and it's guaranteed to sound pretty good. lol.
