Why is the flag reversed on the US uniform?

@Rangifulla Hi there. The flag always "flies" the same direction. So, if he were to have the flag on his opposite shoulder, it would be going the same direction but would look correct. This is a common question, now you have the answer!

@LaurenBercarich More to the point, the US Flag is always flown so the stars are facing the "highest point of honor". When hung on a wall, the stars face the upper left, on a person, they face foward. Since the flag is flown on the right shoulder, it looks "reversed".

@Rangifulla During those times when we used a standard bearer running a flag into war, the soldier could see that the stars were always pointing toward the enemy. If the standard bearer turned around in retreat, the soldiers would know to retreat. So that's why the patch on the right is backwards.

That's what I read somewhere a long time ago, anyway.

I hope this makes sense, just watch patriot or some other old war movie and watch the line as it marches forward and the flag as it is carried.

It's reversed because the flag is advancing. You know, like if you saw an old Civil War line of infantry going towards the enemy with the flags fluttering to the rear.

Thats why the flag is 'reversed', as you knitwit civilians see it. lol.

And we only wear the US flag on the right shoulder, its never put on the left. The right arm is also were we wear our combat patch after deploying with a unit.
