this is as good as it gets with a live performance ya'lls. I been a quicksilver person, since tha 60's, i'll be 59 in nov, wow, what a nice trip it has been so far ^5/wynn
gary duncan, and john cippolino are like pnut butter an jam, this whole band was awesome, and one of ma main listen to's everyday, I'm almost 59 and I listen to what I like, each day, lol/wynn
this is insane...who do you love ? on happy trails is IT ! the tough guy with the 'paul has THE tone, but lacks the unique phrasing of the lead playing on the record that i thought was j.c...sound quality here is stellar...waaaaay thumbs up !!!
there are only a few bands that i think of with the california sound, from this time era, quicksilver, dead, and hot tuna, there are probably more, but this is what I remember from the 70's/wynn
SFV guys, and just a little before my time, but I know them by name and ten years after their fame. One member, Brian?, became a hairdresser and worked in a salon off of Ventura blvd. by the 405. He did my older, cousins hair. Hence why I know all this useless information
The entire set appears at Wolfgang's Vault. It is listed as Winterland, 12/1/73, which makes sense, given the band make-up. The second drummer is former roadie Harold Aceves, bassist is Mark Ryan (who appeared on the albums from this period), and David Freiberg is indeed on keys, though inaudible on this song. The conga-player has not been conclusively identified, though I think it might be Tiny Joe Eleazer, a recently-deceased jazz singer from Hartford, who joined their entourage at this time.
The lineup is strange cause this was a televised jam w Quicksilver. Santana ( you can see their percussionist there ) and either the Dead or Airplane. I don't see Dino at all, but he was there. There were 2 shows like this broadcast on PBS in the early 70s. Called Ride the Music maybe? Anyway===Once Cippolline left it was never the same. Even this version is quite a bit speedier and less Psych sounding than older versions. Still great, just not the same vibe.
@j0eX This is not from Ride the Music. That was in 1969 and the QMS part of that was filmed outside at Sonma State. I agree though it wasn't the same after Cipollia left and it's great that he came back for this. Dino is there, you can see him but he's laying back letting the original greats do classic QMS magic back at Winterland. Old QMS fans must have been in heaven watching Duncan & Cippolina do it again,..
Yep they played Winterland as part of the reunion tour Nov. 30 & Dec 1 1973. This sounds like the QMS I knew and loved in the 60's with Duncan & Cipollina on fire., Wild west guitar gunslingers. I love it. Thanks!
