  • Elvis has the Second best version...Long live the King.

  • I agree, this is the best version...

  • If I could sing, I'd want to sing this

  • If I could sing, I want to sing this :)

  • It really doesn't matter who does this song, it's always going to be beautiful :)

  • If I had a girlfriend named Mary, I would have her listen to this song and then I would give her a soft hug and call her my Mary in the morning....and kiss her gently on the lips and say thank you for all the wondeful moments.

  • Mary in the Morning will always belong to Al Martino.

  • Great stuff! Glen is Great!

  • Elvis mastered this song ... sorry Glen ...

  • It's really stupid doing the Elvis versus Glenn thing seeing as they were very good friends and had nothing but respect for each other. Why can't their fans????? Seriously people, with so much crap masquerading as music these days, don't we need to stick together, rather than fight over who's version is better?????

  • @riffmagos The simple minds of the simple souls of simple people fail to realize that it is a matter of taste and doesn't mean one is better than another... so goes the simple things in life.

  • I don't know why it's important to say who version is better, i love music, so i enjoy but version....just listen and enjoy...and for the person that said that Elvis was boring, you are not a music lover then....sorry.

  • Glen Campbell is THE TITS !

  • Nobody can do it like you Glen.Keep singing.

  • i love glen but elvis career speaks for itself

  • No other version is better than the one Elvis did nothing comes close.

  • Elvis was probably alright if you were around in the 50's or 60's (which I wasn't), but now he's just boring. If one of his songs comes on the radio, I just switch it off.

  • @0795oreilly Then I truly feel sorry for you. Do you also switch off the Beatles, Led Zeppelin too???

  • The place I was when I listened to this years ago immediately comes vivid in my mind's eye. Glen was the best background music growing up.

  • ELVIS

  • I have heard this song by everyone mentioned here,, Glen, Al, Ed, Elvis,,, and let me just say this,,, I love every version of it because it's a beautiful song,,, and that's what makes each version so special!!

  • Ed Ames does it for me.

  • This is VERY good too (vs Elvis) - both are great singers. Everybody has their own opinion and what touches them. I happen to love Elvis's version better - his voice is so amazing. But Glenn is super talented too.

  • correction @abbey2772

  • @Abby2772

You obviously don't shit about Elvis!! Like some of the other youtubers on here have said to you, go read a book and get your facts straight. You might be a Glen fan, but to come on here and talk trash about the man who changed the music industry forever is showing nothing but your INGNORANCE!!! As a diehard Elvis fan, I can tell you that he never he lost his talent, he had every bit of it right up till the end. LONG LIVE THE KING!! TCB ELVIS!!

  • @epandbbfan09 Amen! God gave a special voice to Elvis.

  • @epandbbfan09 I don't quite think you could say he was an accomplished musician so that put him way in the back if you want to get technical about it. I doubt he could barely read music. Just how many instruments could he play except for the guitar and bongos??

  • @abbey2772 Elvis was an accomplished guitarist and piano player

  • @epandbbfan09 ... Yes, they sure should curb their "iNgnorance". (c;

  • Its also e very good version, but my favorit is the one of p.j. proby

  • You realize he designed the line of guitars he's playing..Ovation Guitars

  • Ahem maybe its a guy like me who listens to Tom Jones as symbol of times gone but less than 100k hits for this song...?

Can't dictate I guess but I thought it was worth more.

  • I have never heard anyone else sing this song, Only Glen Campbell, He was my childhood idol (BTW, I own over 8,000 records.) I believe The King probably did a great job on it also,But GC has my fav voice all time.Glen would also probably agree woth some of you about Elvis being better himself as He and Elvis were tight friends, but abbey is correct, Glen was the most sought after sessions guitar player of the 60's playing on Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Beach Boys and Yes, Elvis's records

  • Elvis is WAY BETTER Elvis was the KING

  • yes cambell is great,,but c'mon surpass ELVIS,,i think not,,glen cambel's a star while Elvis is the solar system

  • Now what instrument did Elvis play? I don't seem to remember. Although Glen was the most sought after guitar player in the USA for a while and did play for the Beach Boys for a while when Brian Wilson was sick. That should tell you a little bit about the ability of Glen Campbell other than his singing, which we all know is excellent. But I think when you add his other musical abilities, ie player and writer, this surpasses Elvis.

  • @abbey2772

Elvis played guitar, piano and bass. Maybe others the general public just don't know about.

READ A BOOK BEFORE YOU SAY STUFF LIKE THAT.

  • @matizzle32 And he played like crap. Music was just a side line for Elvis. All he did was shake his ass and take care of his vanity for people who are not musically knowledgeable like yourself. Please keep things in perspective. The guy could sing until the drugs took that away from him and then he had NO TALENT!!!!!

  • @abbey2772

I'm a music major, you no good assuming jackass. You have no credibility. You're not even worth the debate. Do what I said and read a book. You're intelligence can only take so many hits.

  • @abbey2772 You apparently are as dim-witted as your comments are stupid and ignorant. Elvis was the greatest entertainer of all time. His music was not a side line; it was his soul. He never lost any talent. Those that came after he started could only hope to emulate a portion of his talent. There never has been and never will be any to come close to his talent.

  • I also like Glenn better on this song..

  • My husband ( died in his early 30's ) picked this as his Song for me at our Wedding. It was considered an Old song then.. Yes, my "Real name" is Mary. All the times I've been on here I never thought to look this song up?? Now I'm bawling!! But, I'm so glad I found it! Glen Campbell's version is the ONLY one I like. The person who sang it, did it Glen style! Thanks for this walk down memory lane...

  • I'm sorry, but I like Glen better than Elvis....

  • @tbitsu27 Well your stupid!

  • @robinho1979 <<---Gezz what kind of a twisted person would post something like this?

  • @tbitsu27 Don't compare. Each is one is GREAT!!

  • Never knew anyone but Elvis sang this. Sorry, Glenn, you don't even begin to touch Elvis on this!

  • @wp1953 I agree, campbell is good but elvis is ELVIS!

  • Written by the late Johnny Cymbal, check out his version---very poignant.

  • 青春の歌をありがとうございました。

  • This was and is one of my favorite songs. A blast to play. Wonderful memories fo a gentler time.

  • This was and is one of my favorite songs and a blast to play on the guitar! Wonderful words. Good memories.

  • @gamlastanarn Rubbish.

    watch?v=5p4R5bBgcJ0

  • glen cambpell has entertained us for over almost half a century.his talent and skills have endured these years and he remains in the upper echelon of artists.a voice suited ti sing all styles, master of instruments, and the gift of communicating with a audience.in a business that laudes its princes, glen campbell is a king!

  • "Ernie sings, Glenn picks". Find it and get it on Utube. Done 30 years ago in England it never made much splash in the US because it is simply two of the best ever doing old standbys. Incredible.

  • I'm with those who say Glen Campbell owns this song. The melodic voice, the soft passion. No other version can match this one by him.

  • No one sang this better than Elvis

  • @jerry328i Check out Al Martino---

  • @1949man

I have it on an old tape somewhere, i love it. Doesn't come close to Elvis's version IMO

  • Nah. Glen Campbell owns this song. He sings from the soul. His was the first ever album I bought as a teenager oh so many years ago. All the other teens were itno pop, but "I was country, when country wasn't cool."

  • @gojugray I can appreciate your love for Glen Campbell music. His was the first ever album I bought also - I was 7. But country was always cool. Barbara Mandell is not my favorite singer - nor was that song.

  • I don't know who actually cut it first because Glen says he cut it several years before. His version may pre-date the Elvis version, but regardless.....THE KING's is THE BEST. Elvis lays the lyrics in a different pocket, feels it completely different. However, if I had never heard Elvis's version I would really like this. Glen is great.

  • he sings it great but i have to say the BEST ive ever heard is JOE LONGTHORNE singing this...try and hear his version pure class..

  • Great version but check out Elvis'. I raises it into another level.

  • Responding to previous posts - a lot of great versions. I prefer Glen's to the rest since this is a folk song sung by a guy who can do it with guitar and all. The original is also quite special since it was his song. - Great song - lot of great ways to enjoy it.

  • Nice, but Elvis owns this one.

  • I like all the versions, but my fav is Al Martino's. probably because I heard that one first.

  • superb guitar player who has played with all the greats for the last 40 yrs.

not a bad singer .. liked it when he appeared on the smothers bros comedy hour on cbs.. which is another story

  • I really enjoyed that. Thank you for uploading it.

  • I had this on a small 45 record and played it over and over.... I love his version.... thanks for posting

  • This is one of those songs that is just great, its been covered by many great artist. each one great in its own right.

  • you mean elvis's version is the best no one can touch it except god or jesus!

  • P.J.Proby's version is by far the best. Take time out to listen to it

  • @libranboy Each to his own, however, not a patch on this version.

  • @libranboy

Ed Ames had THE definitive version. Check it out also.

  • great song

  • One of the great singers.

  • Beautiful song, great singer.

    Thanks.

  • Als version and Glenns version are both great,,different kind of voice but both enjoyable.. and Ed Ames does a great job also. RWB

  • Ed Ames did the best version. I have it on vinyl but it wasn't released on CD. What a shame!

  • Al Martino has a great voice...but Glen's version is more satisfying.

  • Another great version of this classic...I like them all...but have to confess that the Al Martino version is my favorite. I heard his version on radio back in the '60s and '70s more than anyone else's

  • I think Glen's emotion in his voice makes his version the most heartfelt and the best. Thanks for this video!

  • A beautiful song, I hope we all have a Mary that comes to our minds when the song plays. And briefly, a tribute to Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul, and Mary), may she rest in peace.

  • I've heard all versions of this song, Elvis, Al Martino, and Glen Campbell's is my favorite. He is talent is so huge. One of my favorite singers of all time. Hmmmmm.

  • Mark Twain said it is the difference of opinion that makes horse racing. Can't we just enjoy the version at hand?

  • Glen's version is my fave!

  • good singing but al martino does a better job then anybody

  • i disagree, Elvis Presley, sings it better than any other singer,

  • I agree :-)

  • A singer and guitar player of immense talent

  • P.J.PROBY has two versions of this song on You Tube and are very nice too, well worth a listen.

  • Sublime!

  • Very beatiful song. Elvis version is the best.

  • It's nice to see Glen from back in the days when he wasn't to be found in the bottom of a bottle of booze. To see him today is just plain sad to see what the years of booze and drugs have done to him. He's a pale shadow of his former self. He WAS a great talent once.

  • He's still a great talent...check out some of his newest videos....he's still got it!

  • Which video in particular? I'll be happy to give them a try. Most of the "new" ones I've seen don't impress me the way he used to.

  • give the guy a break.see if you can sing as well as him when your 72.

  • Nobody exoects that, Wimpole. I'm talking about a guy who was blessed by God with real talent and drank a good chunk of it away. I'll save you the reply: "Even drunk, he's better than most others." Yeah, that may be true, but it's still a crying shame. Hopefully, he's given up the drinking and recreational crap he was doing back when I saw him. If so, he'd be a treat to watch. More power to him. I hope he's conquered his demons. He's always been a great talent, that's what makes it frustrating.

  • I understand what you are saying BigChief.....one can only wonder how much talent his "abuses" took away from Glen, but as one who has seen him live a couple of times in the past 3 years I'm telling you that he's as good and as comfortable in front of a group of people as anyone I've ever seen. I too like you, hope that Glen stays away from his "demons" and the rest of his days are as peaceful as can be.

  • Only new The King version! He rules!

  • this is how the song should be sung(my 2 cents..)...one of glen's best...

  • Johnny Cymbal wrote the tune and in my opinion no one does it better.

  • Al's version is without a doubt the definitive version......

  • one of the first glen songs I learned to play and perform:-)

  • I used to sing this song to my wife whose name was Mercy rather than Mercy. It still worked. Any two syllable song works. But this singing by Campbell is very good but Martino has the baritone.

  • Absolutely wonderful! My favorate Glen

    Campbell ballad.

  • Love everything he ever did..i'm his biggest fan..finally got to meet him @ the phx.open..shook his hand..and talked for a minute..it was great..thx Glen for the autograph.

  • thanks ilove this song

  • I like Al Martino also, but I think this is the best version of this song. Hear In My Heart by Al is really a great song. RWB

  • Yes i agree..Al Martino's version is the best

  • What a beautiful song and talented performer,,RWB

  • Great going, Glen. You really get the emotions going through your music. Although a big Elvis fan, too, your version is just wonderful! I could listen to it all day. Thanks...

  • Cheers.

  • Beautiful rendition of this song. The only other person I had heard it from was Elvis and although his interpretation was very good indeed. Glen's performance of this timeless classic is stunning.

  • Al Martino's version is better. I saw it on youtube. Why was it removed?

  • God help us..Elvis is FAR better

  • God help you, you Kook"

  • JPlatinum77....may I suggest you either get your hearing aid repaired or have you ears syringed.Elvis's version is MUCH better

  • Elvis was the best singer ever. The others are never the voice of Elvis. Elvis is one, the great one.

  • al martino was great on this as was ed ames--heck i never heard anyone not sound good on this song.

  • Elvis really makes this song REAL TO LIFE!! What a set of vibes Elvis had..

  • Must admit i like all the versions mentioned in the other comments including glens performance. Firdt time i heard this song was by Al Martino and its terrific, but i agree that Joe Longthorne's version is absolutely superb too (probably most upbeat version) and i saw Joe perform it live in glasgow and he brought the house down, a class act indeed.

    David (glasgowbard)

  • Elvis' version is far better than Glen's

  • the best version of this is by joe longthorne ....FANTASTIC

  • A very good job by Glen as usual, but imo, the original by Al Martino in July '67 was tops...

  • I grew up liking Glen, my brother turned me on to Elvis, and when I heard Elvis' version of Gentle On My Mind, I about GAGGED, but now I love its groove, and being a musician, I appreciate BOTH versions of it and this song(though Elvis' version of this is a tearjerker)

  • Depends on if you are a Elvis or Glen Campbell fan.

  • elvis version is the best !!!

  • Good performance but not even close to Elvis' version!

  • Really the difference, Very good the song with Glen Campbell´s's version. Thank.
