That particular one has a metal body with a cone-shaped contraption in it called a "resonator" that was designed to make acoustic guitars louder before electric amplification came along. People still produced these instruments today because the metal body and resonator give instruments a distinct sound. Check out this video of Son House to check out how a meta body resonator sounds different from a regular acoustic.
