  • How the hell is this about Jessica Simpson

  • Comment removed

  • @figurespeech101 Can't be certain, but I think he was referring to the fact that her dad was one of those dudes that made their daughter perform and managed them in a sort of overbearing way. I think that's what this song is about isn't it?

  • i dont even get the first top comment

  • 280p what is this, Somalia?!

  • The first verse of this song is the most anti-conservative set of lyrics I have ever heard. Pure awesome.

  • @CardingtonLZF What does that have to do with conservatism?

  • this song gets me /pumped/

  • I think of Springsteen every time I hear this song...

  • damn, that ending is powerful

  • They sound like The Doors when he's all "aww ur such a sensitive child..." and it scares me a little bit, in a good way:)

  • Regine looks like Helena Bonham Carter.

  • Comment removed

  • i hate to comment on looks when it comes to music but damn is Regine looking great

  • I realized, in my life, i gotta stop complaining so much...

  • Love it Love it Love it!!!!!

  • Fun game: Try to find a video where Win's mandolin actually works for the whole thing.

  • @SynthDiv sometimes they rock out a lil too hard lol

  • Stop, stand up, clap your hands.

  • 3:10 Oh Regine, you're too cute

  • Manager: "okay, guys, remember to look as retarded as possible"

  • Arcade fire is the law

  • They should open for Jessica Simpson just so they can play this song.

  • @jpbelang Are you for real!...Don't insult them(Arcade Fire). They don't belong in the same sentence, not mention the same venue.

  • @XIIIX70 You do realize that this song is about Jessica Simpson and that my comment was tongue in cheek ?

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Arcade Fire in Melbourne a few years back. The best gig Ive seen since Sigur Ros. They worked the crow perfectly and they all got into it.Regine is gorgeous..:-)

  • it would have been better if win screamed," TELL ME LORD AM I THE ANTICHRIST?" at the end. this is such a beautiful song.

  • such a great live band

  • thanks arcade fire :)

  • her yelling and screaming makes the song.

    and win

    and the mandolin

and the rest of the band

  • best arcade song !!

  • what instrument is win playing?

  • @15turkey15 It's a mandolin. That particular one has a metal body with a cone-shaped contraption in it called a "resonator" that was designed to make acoustic guitars louder before electric amplification came along. People still produced these instruments today because the metal body and resonator give instruments a distinct sound. Check out this video of Son House to check out how a meta body resonator sounds different from a regular acoustic.

  • @15turkey15 Uhm. Can't post the link.

  • haha drunk and still brilliant

  • arcade fire > wayne gretzky

  • Oh Canada, our home and native land. True patriot love in all thy son's command!!!!

  • Win = my boy crush.

  • i love you lady in red

  • Best arcade fire song

  • definitely an underplayed song needs to be played at more gigs

  • Underrated Arcade Fire song. One of my favs from Neon Bible.

  • @TheoreticallyNo same here one of my favorite songs period

  • Sorry to double-post but I'm having a hard time getting over how 1. amazing this song is 2. how amazing this performance is.

  • actually noticed a new element of the song on this, those backing vocals, like at, 3:41 are so amazing, you could make a song with just those harmonies.

  • Win saw Arcade Fire live and realized it was fail. Fail saw Arcade Fire live and realized it was epic fail.

Does that make Arcade Fire epic win?

  • Joe Simpson is the antichrist!!

  • He should really buy a new mandolin....

  • @mindhwhanna Or fire the sound guy.

  • the fucking best live band there is. Fantastic performance! I LOVE YOU ARCADE FIRE!!!!!

  • Actually, it's hard to catch, but Regine accidentally pulled out the plug when she walked across the wire behind Win. Definitely didn't make a difference performance-wise (these guys are such pros!). And, Richard's dancing and arm-clapping is freaking genius! Hopefully they'll start including this song in their setlist again!!

  • Regine is just... God... I need to get me one of her O.O Beautiful.

  • Heh, 1:14, Win's mandolin stopped working.

  • @SynthDiv regine tripped over the wire.

  • I would have slept by that stage for days to be up front for this

  • pro or con antichrist?j JESUS will bruise your head genisis 3;15

  • 4:41 Régine just throws the tambourine down XD

  • @DKP4 go to hell, you fucking asshole. Regine Chassagne is a fucking legend.

  • @BeatlesWooHoo Maybe in Canada she is. But that doesn't say much, does it?

  • @DKP4

you're too big of a dumbass to even realize it.

  • @DKP4 shes annoying but id still fuck her

  • I don't want to work in a fuckin building downtown either

  • They make my heart get all gushy inside :)

  • God damn, this song!!! <3

  • 3:08 i love regine.

  • @rareflorence aaaw, that is too adorable! regine is so precious in so many ways!! :D

  • this is the kinda song you get stuck in your head, in car, in your head's car all day

  • I'M THE ANTICHRIST!

  • @pb509

Yeah that's a better way to put it. Sorry my ego gets over-excited at times -_-

  • @pb509

And, they are not implying the neglecting of god but the idea we've been implanted with of god. Another type of slavery=religion, whether anyone likes it or not, religion tells you what to think and feel and how to see god. How do we know we can see god from another light? Because there have been rebels that dare to explore the unknown so they meet this amazing undescribable power that they just know they have to release the old idea of it to welcome a new one... Capisce?

  • @pb509

Hmm, you have completely missunderstood the point of the song. I'm gonna make it simple and easy for you:

    Old World= New World

Things need to change, and everything from big enterprises and corporations etc... to the tiniest thing that has to do with money came as a reaction from the lack of money and the desire of inconscious power=enslaving people.

Slavery hasn't been done with, the simple fact that you do with your life something that you don't want... that's slavery. (next com)

  • wow, regine is very intense.

  • I saw them earlier this month and they DID NOT play this! How sad. I don't think they've been playing it at very many of their shows at all...this is probably my favorite song of Neon Bible. Amazing show, still.

  • Wow. They are too good. I really hope they play this song at Reading this year!

  • @opeewann- I agree. Graduated from a university told thats how to make it in this world, only to be stuck in a job downtown and thinking is this it!

  • opeewann - this song is about creating a product out of religion, via making your daughter sing publicly, in the tune of christ - an ode to jessica simpsons father - maybe you shouldnt have quit your job

  • @spencerroks Lyrics can mean different things to different people. Sure, if you want to get analytical / Poetry-major-esque, you're probably right. But it doesn't change the way I felt when I first heard the song and how it consequently effected me.

  • @spencerroks Almost.

  • Imagine you've just graduated from university and get a job downtown working with a telecom company. At first, it's great. The money is decent, you work in a big office building, and you get to wear spiffy shirts everyday. The shine soon wears off.... Working in a cubicle and talking on the phone all day just doesn't fulfill your life ambitions... is this what you're destined to do for the rest of your life? Out of nowhere, you hear this song. Don't tell me music can't change your life.

  • @opeewann i dont want to end up like that.. it's my fear. sometimes i think growing up is coming to terms with just being another person working 9 to 5. giving up your real dreams and settling. im so affraid of becoming my parents. the first step is realizing this. the next step is getting my balls alligned and trying my hand at the thing i want to do most in life. i dont want to fail. i know, im an idiot.

  • @opeewann

    Absolutely ! Greatest comment

  • true music.

"do you know where I was at your age?! ANY IDEA WHERE I WAS AT YOUR AGE? I WAS WORKING DOWNTOWN FOR THE MINIMUM WAGE!"

I love this line so fucking much!

  • I think I'm half in love with Win.

    Just saying.

  • @miaisapirate only half?

  • @miaisapirate only half?!x

  • @raGARRY haha, the other half is saying "dude, you don't even know him, how can you be in love with him?"

  • @miaisapirate you can learn alot about a person just by listening to some of their written songs.

  • Does anyone hate Regine in some songs then think she's brilliant in others?

  • @eheffelf

    wtf? no!

  • @eheffelf

Actually, I love her in all the songs! Cause I like many of us arcade fans, see and take her as she is, like the whole band itself. That's why they've touched many of us so much.

  • This song gave me chills when I first heard it, and it still does today.

  • This song sounds like it should be off Arcade Fires new album The Suburbs

  • @TheZeitgeisttruth that's what i thought as soon as i listened to the new album

  • @rareflorence yea has that suburban despotism to it. Brilliant song

  • @Xaulted you don't know shit.

  • Win puts the win in Win.

  • this song never loses its energy

    its awesome

  • i was there as always and they were quite brilliant, yeah we're really lucky to have glastonbury, shame they didn't play again this year they're doing Reading/Leeds instead. Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • I don't want to work in a building downtown either.

  • WIN IS JUST AN EPIC GUY

  • roll oxegen next week!!!

  • Regine= my girl crush.

  • @PirateBobLadYar

Me too, I love her, not in a sexual way. I just love who she projects!!

  • @PirateBobLadYar ditto. except im a guy so...

  • God I have listened to this song over and over again... I never get sick of it!

  • i love how win didnt have a guitar for a bit, but this performance is still amazing

  • i love the music ,band is shit hot , and i have fallen in Love with the bird in the red dress

  • this band is perfect nuff said

  • Some guy up front loves the hell out of that flag.

  • wanna hold a mirror up to the world so that they can see themselves inside my little girl

  • why is this song so amazing? ive loved arcade fire for a long time and had often heard this song, but it never meant anything to me, about 3 monthes ago, something just clicked in my head, and now i nearly cry when i listen to it, I DONT KNOW WHY. ive listened to it pretty much constant since then and havent got sick of it. i wont get sick of it either, i know i wont, because its not just a song. It means so much more, its unworldly, its godlike

  • Quite possibly my favorite Arcade Fire song. Just Amazing!

  • such an underrated song, such an underrated band. Every song has such a beautiful melody and the lyrics have so much meaning... unlike 99% of other bands these days.

  • @jackfn1234

If anything, Arcade Fire are overrated. Yes, they are a great band. But, they're definitely not underrated. They've been praised by nearly everyone that knows anything about music.

Also, stop listening to the radio. There are many other bands who have meaningful and worthy melodies and lyrics.

    Just putting that out there..

  • Comment removed

  • @matthewcoelhomusic They are appropriately rated by critics, but by the general public? One of the most underrated bands ever. There are lots of other underrated bands with great music/lyrics, but I have to say that these guys' lyrics are the best I've ever heard. They would work just set to verse.

  • @matthewcoelhomusic no way there underated, they should just be more popular is all

  • I LOVE!!! this song i cant go a day without hearing it!

  • Regine is a giant musical force for this brilliant band, and she is beautiful, don't judge her.

  • 3:06 , amado mexico :D

  • phenomenal, beautiful, gorgeous, MUSIC!

  • the lady in the red is crazy

  • @besthax13 One of the reasons why Regine is so awesome :D

  • great!!!

  • is anyone going to mention why win stops playing the mandolin a little bit through the song?

  • the cable broke i think lol

  • I think I just came

  • @craig77776

That's what I keep on saying with their songs! I keep having this constant non-stop orgasms and it's just never ending man! I'm always high when listening to them and always always wet in my head! Is that possible!!!???

Bah, I think it is cuz I keeps on happening. New prescription for head-brain-mind orgasms: Arcade Fire.

  • i love how this is still a classic performance even though win didnt have a guitar for half of it. I guess regine tripped over the cable. I LOVE REGINE!!!

  • this band is so amazing I can't even explain it in words. all of their songs have such strong meaning, In each and every one of them. that crap bullshit pop has no meaning at all, and i can;t beleive people actually like that and not this

  • I feel bad for Joe Simpson. He could never really appreciate this awesome song!

  • i just love this band and i can't wait for their new album. i wonder what other instruments they'll introduce to their sound.

  • this is pure poetry!

  • I think this is one of their best songs,

lyrically escpecially and the way it's sung, you can tell they mean it and the lyrics are such a slap in the face.

  • this song is a religious experience. too amazing.

Can't wait till they start touring this year.

    They sound awesome live.

  • whatever people say, you can always outsmart them if you stay true.

  • @WhoRockKilled

    Amen sister/brother!

  • i didn't know this song was about joe simpson until recently. now the slight pedophilic undertones make more sense to me.

  • Comment removed

  • Are all of the members of Arcade Fire included in the music-writing progress? Cause somehow I think Regine seems very dominating both live and on albums.

  • win butler (and regine) are definitely in charge

  • Regine rocks !!

  • Eh, the woman bugged me too. Weird, creepy energy.

  • @GrahamGJohnson

It's a shame you're not yet set to enjoy what she represents. Beauty, freedom, rebellion, intelligence that transcends books, spirituallity, like the band itself. I'm guessing you will someday since you're already listening to them.

  • haha, well, regine chassagne play drums, piano, violin, accordion, and in this song : tambourine. don't be too hard on her :p

anyway, they don't "neglect the fact that some people do need to work in buildings downtown for the sake of society", i think they just mentionned the 9/11 trauma.

it's a song about the right and the wrong. about the act of "believing in the right" in this world". about the faith. and what is the faith ? Faith doesnt mean Believe. Faith is the will to believe.

  • so that's what he means when he sings "i need to know if i'm losing my time" (i don't know if this is the right sentence, but the meaning is here).

they don't neglect the idea of "God". They just criticize the "system", and they finally question the place of artists in society, the place of humanity and the place of "God", with a wonderfull irony and a really poetic song.

and, once more, they have the right to question god and humanity :)

  • i though arcade fire was a christian band, and they believed in the bible and god and all that stuff, but when i saw the name of this song, it left me kinda like wtf? haha

  • @rjxeatsxshitt no way they are,thankfully

  • The song is about Joe Simpson, Jessica Simpson's idiot father. Fact.

  • the woman, regine cassagne, IS concentrate on her instrument (which isnt amplified by mics or amplis). She just FEEL and LIVE the music, that they are all part of.

the arcade fire get this strenght, that they are fair, sincere, honest, musicians. their performance show their will, their vision of world, art and music(which is close from ecologism, with songs like "no cars go", "rebellion", or "haiti"). they want to be heard, they play with a kind of "last hope's energy". and they have the right.

  • @jsilv63

    Her violin is mic'd.

  • what's the name of the song?? anyone

  • antichrist telivision blues..

    hah

  • Well after referring to the title of the video, I'm pretty sure it's called Glastonbury 2007.

  • really?

  • NO! they are the saviours!

  • this song is outstanding... and now im overcome

  • this is their best song by far!!!!!!!
