Gates I'm sorry I called you an arrogant jerk. Didn't know you offered to send me a DVD of old Milwaukee Bucks highlight's. Sorry for being an asshole and calling you a jerk. And I'll still be sorry if you decide to not send the DVD.
How about the fact that not everybody has video of their players careers. And some people don't have to be arrogant jerks, when somebody ask them for a simple favor.
Back in March I offered to send you a dvd so you could do your own highlight reel but I never had back from you. Doesn't sound like I was being an arrogant jerk does it?
A high school friend briefly dated his sister so I played some ball at his home in Rockaway , Queens, NY. Winters was a tall decent guy- just one of those strange things in life- I can say that I shot a few hoops with Brian Winters. I was not a basketball player. He certainly does not look like Charles Manson. If someone wants other players on video, then post them but what does that have to do with Winters. I graduated high school 68-went into USMC- dumb move.
Thanks for this post, I watched Brian Winters play from the time he was a freshman at South Carolina under Frank McGuire. He was special then and only grew more so. He had a beautiful shot.
Brian Winters and Bob Love had the two most beautiful shots I ever saw. I only wish we didn't have to see Winters in all this slo-mo crap though. And you really had to see his deep longshots from full court at the end of a buzzer beater to appreciate the guy. Nobody beat the buzzer like him.
I have footage of both Moncrief and Johnson but not alot. If somebody could send me the Bucks 1977 Green and Growing highlight video I could definitley do a Marques highlight.
I like Brian Winters but Sidney Moncrief and Marques Johnson were better players and they don't have highlight video's on You Tube. This is a crime imo. Not only were they better but had more exciting highlight's than Winters(especially Marques). Somebody should really put up their highlight videos on this site.
I agree with "86pimp3". Marques Johnson was a rock solid player. He came aboard the Bucks in the 1977-78 season and joined a veteran team consisting of Junior Bridgeman, Quinn Buckner, Dave Meyers, and Brian Winters. Marques shot .522% and averaged 19.5 ppg that season. He defied the sophomore jinx in the 1978-79 season by shooting .550% and averaging 25.8 ppg. Winters remains my favorite player, but Johnson epitomized the Bucks-UCLA connection (along with Abdul-Jabbar, Lucius Allen, & Myers).
its funny u put that Jordan quote..i was reading the article, and thats the reason i just looked up Brian Winters...lol...i never heard of him before that...good stuff
That game 7 of the 1980 playoffs was amazing. So much drama better than a movie. Shoot I would given that game as the best movie of the year than Raging Bull. Brian Winters had a great game. He seemed to do everything. pass, drive, shoot and defend.
Brian Winters would shoot circles around anyone in the NBA right now. I grew up watching the NBA in the 70s and this guy could light it up from anywhere.
Man, I wish I was around to watch Mr. Winters play. What a sweet touch! I love watching vintage NBA basketball. Especially the Bucks. Thanks for putting up these great videos. Please add more if you have any...
when i was 14 i watched dude hit a last second jumper from the top of the key to beat a loaded marquette team. 1974 i think. imagine a team with him, mike dunleavey and alex english. badass
I tried my best but with no luck. I do have a b/w coaches film I got from the Marquette archives of a game against South Carolina during his junior year.
I'm a lifelong Celtics fan going way back, but boy, Winters was fun to watch. In some ways, this video takes him down a notch for me because all I remember are his swishes that turned the net inside out. Fantastic shooter on a great team that could have won a title if the stars lined up right and they could have been together in the 90s. That Bucks team would have beaten the Bulls.
He did a great job with the WNBA, Indiana Fever who took them to a conf. finals last year but his contract wasn't picked up and was replaced by Lin Dunn. Previous to him coming, they had were inconsistent. He took them to 3 straight playoffs before getting replaced.
Oh man -- as a Wisconsin native, I followed the Bucks closely during Winters' career - his beautifully soft touch was an unfailing source of pleasure --
Brian is my all time favorite player, even since I saw him hit a game winner on TV for South Carolina to beat Marquette. I got to meet Brian a few times later in life and he's a class act, quiet and humble. Thanks for sharing these great clips of him in action!
Well put together highlight video there buddy...you have just got to love the retro 70s basketball stuff. He and Pistol Pete would really run circles around today's players!
