This is so beautiful in every way I can think of. So many symbols, so many feelings. I just hope so deeply that you'll make more videos, perhaps with these characters? Please, please do!
I suppose the meaning of this is subjective and open to someone's own personal interpretation.
To me it says; deal with your evils with logic and composure, rather than assaulting them with blind desperation and resentment, as this will only exacerbate the problem.
The concept of control is vital also, the man lost all control of his fear, so it consumed him, completely. He allowed impulse to dictate his actions rather than his logic, ultimately he paid for this, as we all do in life.
After some research I found that Van Gogh did several paintings in this. The picture of the man crying at 1:44 till it fades to black was done by Van Gogh several days before shooting himself. The boots the demon had looks similar to a painting of Van Gogh's of a pair of shoes. The outside is obviously starry night by Van Gogh. The painting of the city and river where the guy looks for the shoes was also done by Van Gogh. The room also reminds me of another painting by Van Gogh.
@IeaturCoOkIeS10201 So my conclusion is this: The man is Van Gogh and the creator is trying to show how Van Gogh's last days were. And what happens to the man? I believe he shoots himself instead of being taken by the demon, just like Van Gogh did.
@IeaturCoOkIeS10201 I don't know if you pointed it out, but the way the man in the picture behind him at the end, I believe it is Van Gogh himself but not sure, anyway he is sat in the same position, just in the opposite direction. So I agree with you.
@IeaturCoOkIeS10201 I agree with your conclusion, but lets take it one step further. No person ever Acts with Certainty. There will always be some regrets for choices not made. I believe when he chooses to confront his personal demon, he may have thought it the best choice of action at the time. but what if he had just layed there and whined? thats a different story altogether, needless to say, I also believe the cockroaches are his mounting regret, as the movie continues, more and more of them
@IeaturCoOkIeS10201 are seen throughout it. Also I have to question the teddy bear and radio, could these also be comfort devices for the "man"? The bear is obviously one because he is seen holding it whilst looking for the demons doc marten boots. I also think while it does show alot of Van Gogh's mental illness and paranoia, that he himself couldn't get over alot of regrets in his life. Thus both kill themselves. One shoots him self, one jumps out of a window.
@CptSkillet the teddy bear represents innocence i think and I think it says that there must be a balance between innocence and the cynical feelings of the human heart (the cynical feeling being the demon)
You're right. It is impressively piece of art. Even the not gamers can appreciate this!
Though I thought 2 kids accidently shot Van Gogh. They shot him with a pistol which made him die two days later. Search any searchmachine: van gogh shot by boy.
I love the fact that you are able to take many different things from this, and all depending on your personal views. That, personally, is what makes this appeal so much to me.
to @IxIJimboIxI plus anyone else who wants to know. in my opinion this this machinima is about the uncertainty of the unknown. He was driven to (dexter like) insanity from the fear of what might be. He faced his demon but now it is unknown where the demon is, if he will come back, and if he will be stronger. simple. im no genius, let me know what you think.
@jackybuoy86 yes that is true, but that could also correlate with the uncertainty of the unknown. You know this reflects just how good that was. Were trying to decipher the meaning of it. Somewhat puzzle like.
Reminds me to a great extent a little of the classic movie "A Clockwork Orange." Brilliant film that also made use of the "Singing In the Rain" song and the narrators overwhelmingly calm diction while the character portrayed on screen is nothing of the sort. Likewise, you use Van Gogh comparatively to how Clockwork Orange used Beethoven. Don't remember the 'Certainty' bit from Kubrick's movie or of Burgess's book. Good machinima thou.
Great video, highly unusual and unexpected for a WoW machinima, it's a really good depiction of depression escalating into psychosis. The video fits in very well with the story and the voice. It sure is a welcome departure from the usual WoW machinima's.
interesting short indeed, only thing i could critise about it, was the demon could use alittle work; everything else was pretty dam good i especially liked the outside sky.
@wildcatnip the duodenum is a hollow jointed tube about 10–12 in long connecting the stomach to the jejunum. It begins with the duodenal bulb and ends at the ligament of Treitz.
Just shows what living in fear and regret will do to a person. Facing your demons is not something to be ashamed of. They can return, they might in deed return. But who's to say that their going to return in full, you faced them once, they cannot hurt you as easily a second time.
So what good does it do you to worry about it? Nothing.
"I don't like to talk about Acting With Certainty too much because it's essentially a non-verbal experience. "
this is cool but don't be a pretentious dickhead about it. also: if this experience was "essentially" non-verbal, then you should have cut out the apparently non-essential narration, which contains -- yes, you guessed it -- words.
Chilling, truely chilling. Fastastic work, it's one thing to take an actor and make a film on a set than to making a video from a game where not all of these animations exist. I know I can do one but not the other.
Its talking about if you face your demons, you will never know if those demons will come back (Demons of course meaning things you want to get out of your life) and in this case, it drove the man mad waiting for his demon to come back.
