  • 2:12 the song that got me into Metallica in the first place <3

  • sounds awesome! good tone

  • How much would all of this equipment cost?

  • i used to copy everything metallica did when i was 17, but then i grew up and came up with my own style and write my own riffs...

  • Harvester of Sorrow! Nice!

  • i hear often that explorer based guitars have horrible tuning and wear out the nut faster than other guitars, is it true?

  • @gofuckloser I have 3 explorer style guitars and they seem to hold tuning just as good as any other guitar that I've ever played. I don't know about the nut part, all of mine are fine and don't seem like they are going to be wearing out anytime soon.

  • @gofuckloser If it's built by gibson or epiphone then yes it will.

  • @gofuckloser

I´m jamming on an roughly 18 Years old Gibson Explorer and i NEVER EVER had a guitar holding Tune so well as she does!

If i put on new string and tune in, you can grab the guitar 2 days later and she will still be in tune!

    Amazing!

  • this is the sound which i like metallica for

first seconds of orion just awesome

  • need's more downpicking...

  • I know that this guitar haven`t tone control, my question is: In comparison with other guitars, What is the level of the tone of the snakebite ? 1/10

  • @MetallicUFO should be 10/10...wide open!

  • @fixdrummer thanks, I`ll be buy this

  • @MetallicUFO Tone knob- REAL GUITARIST NEEDS ONLY PICKUP SWITCH AND VOLUME KNOB!

  • I have emg pick ups on my 8 string. But what's the difference between mine or yours?

  • respect dude!!!!!

  • Hey i'm not being funny but what is a mesa boogie mark III+ i had a mark III and now i own a mark v but never heard of a mk III+ so let me know.

  • @wpmtpm It's was a mark III purple stripe, then I sent it in to boogie and Mike Bendinelli did some magic to it that he calls the III+ mod. I don't know what all he did to it, but it's totally amazing now! It's supposed to be the markIIC+ circuit minus the transformers i believe.

  • Hey man, great. I'm thinking of getting this guitar. Do you use a 60 in the bridge? What does hetfield use for ryhthm? I've been using the 81 in my current H-1001 for nearly everything (85 for some solos). When does Metallica use 60's / 81's? I know Kirk has dual 81's.. so?

  • @LaMinchia1985 It's the 81 in the bridge and the 60 in the neck.

  • you rich bastard ;D

  • downpick all! :D

  • Awesome playing!

    Post some new videos soon.

  • You'd better loan that one to James cuz it's heavier sounding than his on stage.

  • @bsmith483 That's true man they have a huge rig but their sound live isn't that great, not awful but I'm pretty sure with only one good amp they could sound better

  • I know EMG pickups can fit most of the guitar, I just want to make sure does it can fit my epiphone gothic les paul? cause I also want to this killer sound.

  • Hi -- I just got the JH set and I have a 2011 ESP Eclipse. I see you got a snakebyte so can I ask -- did you just swap the pickups or did you swap the tone and volume pots that came with the JH as well? I just swapped the pickups and they don't sound right.

  • @surgeyX i just swapped the pickups, nothing else. hmm, I don't know man...They shouldn't sound drastically different from the stock pickups. You sure you have the bridge pickup in the bridge position and vise versa? Just a shot in the dark.

  • @fixdrummer

Thanks for the reply man -- I really appreciate it.

I think the ones I got are defective. They make this weird shreiking noise on the higher notes...which I can only assume is feedback (they can't be THAT much hotter than an 81/60), so I contacted EMG and they're sending me a replacement set. Thanks again for responding...btw...how do you like the snakebyte? :]

  • @surgeyX Cool man, hopefully the new set will rock. I'm still in love with the snakebyte! Its just a fun guitar to play.

  • @surgeyX you have to replace the pot's as well dude. passive pickups require 250,500,1M, actives require a 25K. take the guitar to someone that can do it properly and you wont have a problem.

  • @evhgl87

Actually, you don't....the eclipses come with 81/60.

90% of ESP\LTD guitars ship with 81/60/85 and already have the right pots.

There are a few that have HZ's or duncans though.

Anyways -- there was something wrong with the ones I got..I got new ones shipped from EMG and the new ones sound great ^_^ I Also found out that the solderless system EMG ships with the JH isn't favored and it's best to keep whatever comes with your guitar, as it will probably come with a soldered system.

  • you mentioned not knowing if you needed to replace the potentiometer, just food for thought for the other 10%. Glad you like'em! Also never been a fan of the solderless system.

  • @surgeyX if you have an eclipse that came with passives then you need to change the pots

  • @surgeyX make sure the ARROW on the plug that goes to the pickup is facing up, very well could be your problem..i installed a 81/85 in my EC400vf & got the bridge one backwards & it sounded horrible, like u i thought it was defective...so i ruined a set aof strings and reread the info & sure enough i checked & it was bacwards..flipped it over, saw the arrow, plugged it in, restrung & PERFECTION!!! hope this helps anyone else, i know you already returned yours but that coulda been it

  • @surgeyX Was your previous pickups active or passive ? if they were passive you need to swap out all the electronics

  • so the only difference between the esp and the ltd versions of this guitar is that the esp has a straplock?!?! and yet the prices are so different...

  • @funofsk8ing

The ESP Version is made in japan at a factory with extremely skilled Luthiers who are some of the top craftsman in Japan. The LTD versions are Korean made and mass produced on an assembly line. This is not to say that the LTD versions are of bad quality -- they are of GREAT quality; both brands have excellent QC...but the ESP versions take longer to produce, have more attention to detail and use higher quality materials. It's not worth buying the ESP version unless you're rich.

  • @techdechcentral Check out Bare Knuckle Pickups. The Aftermath is my favorite.

  • did the pickups come with the guitar or was it just 81 60s ???

  • dude be a guitar player

  • How much did you pay for the amp?

  • was there much of a difference between these and the 81 and 60?

  • That is the most 'Metallica' tone ever! Sounds awesome!

  • Well, It´s good for Metallica stuff, but what about some Machine Head ?

  • Question, How is the ebony fretboard? I'm asking because I've come across ebony fretboards with brown streaks lately. is it uniform black?

  • a little question: how does this pickups sound in the clean channel?

  • @splectrum just uploaded a video with some clean stuff...not the best playing, but it may give you an idea how the pickups sound.

  • Just another guitar I have to add to my wish list, thanks James!

  • Very cool tone man. Did your Snakebyte come with the Het set or did you have to pop them in after the fact? I am planning on buying the EC1000 VB at the start of the new year and I know it comes with the 81/60 set and if I'm not mistaken because they are all EMGs it should just be a matter of unplugging the 81/60 and plugging the Het ones in. Right?

  • @phantomdave79 The Snakebyte comes with the 81/60

  • I want the snakebyte so bad but the ESP version is like 4 grand...argh.

I've got an ESP standard eclipse now, and I love it...I'm just not too keen on korean made guitars, especially them being sold for over 600$ -- I know ESP is super picky on quality but I honestly don't think any Korean made assembly line guitar should cost more than 600 US$. My eclipse is ESP standard (not LTD) and MIJ and like...seriously, the best crafted guitar I've ever seen in my life.

  • I wanna put the het set in my Ec1000. But I'm rocking SD's in it. Haha

  • Damn man u can play!!!

  • very fast motherfucker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This or the ESP ltd ec1000?

  • rekon the 81s sound better

  • super great)) You rockIN)

  • Awesome job! I just upgraded from EMG HZ's to the EMG 80 and 60. Godammit, now I gotta spring for the Het Set! Hahahaha.

  • great sound man :D

  • Will the black chrome finish peel off or wear out on the jh set from extensive playing? I had gold epiphone pick ups on my les paul and now they have become silver on the edges, underneath the high end low E's (in standart tuning)!!! I know its to soon to tell since you just put them on...but what do you think..?

  • @delaportas1 I already have a couple of places on the bridge pickup that got nicked real easily when i was adjusting the intonation. I hardly touched the screw driver to the pickup, and got a scratch. Doesn't bother me though, they still look awesome. But I do think the finish will hold up over time, if you don't do anything stupid to them...like me

  • @fixdrummer thanks man! i will have that in mind...

  • @fixdrummer Do you think there is a difference between the jh set and the new x series...or is the jh set just x series with james name on them if you know what i mean...to be honest i would prefer if thats the case, because i want the 81x / 60x combo but i like the looks of the jh set more...i cant find any article or forum based on my question so what do you think...Different?The same?thanks in advance!!!

  • @delaportas1 JH set's biggest difference is the individual pole magnets as opposed to the bar magnets in a regular EMG pickup, including the X series. It's supposed to emulate a passive pickup a little more. That's what info I have...

  • @techdechcentral bare knuckle warpigs if you have 300-400 dollars lyin around ;)

  • Hi James!

  • Great Beefy Papa Het Sound with a nice song selection as well. Nice Video indeed!

  • THese or Duncan Blackouts?

  • @mattsavedbygracengai THIS ONES! Blackouts sucks every single day.

  • You have one of the best tones I've heard in Youtube and exceptional skills man! Cheers!

  • Nice guitar and nice playing!

  • for you the emg jh is better than emg 81/60? thanks a lot and good video ;)

  • your guitar sounds better than metallica's live stuff

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 I've never seen Metallica live, but there videos from 2001+ There tone has been TERRIBLE. I wish they'd go back to using the Mesa Mark series amps.

  • @nbcviper yeah dude. the rectos are...just....ew. the Marks are fantastic though. FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC.

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 Sad But true.....

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 A 75 year old's hearing is better than yours. Have you been to a live Metallica concert? You're comparing a compressed youtube video to 30 year's of ongoing on-stage mixing and mastering? Lol at the 19 thumbs too, pure ignorance. Back on topic, the JH set looks nice.

  • @dkJammin I haven't been to a metallica show, nor do I want to go. I do have the big 4 blu-ray dvd and digital optical audio, and trust me.... nothing to be impressed by. Apparently 20 people agree with me, and yet I have yet to see anyone agree with you. So please, metallifag, don't come spewin' your bullshit at me.

  • Implying something that was mixed and mastered for a dvd is the same as live. 'Tallica shows are as good as they get in terms of metal "sound".

  • @dkJammin You've obviously never listened to many other bands then. Gary Holt of Exodus' tone shits all over Metallica (so does his playing, trolololol). Gojira's tone stomps all over Metallica's. Killswitch Engage's tone destroys. Mastodon. High on Fire. Metallica's tone is generic as it gets dude. Marshall's and Mesa's and EMGs. REAL SPECIAL.

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 Oh gee 18 people thumbed up your comment. That's some bragging rights right there. Metallica is still great live, a DVD is like air in comparison to actually being there in person. Metallica is a great band and has MILLIONS of fans worldwide obviously they've been doing something right if every single show they've done has been a sold-out show. Now stop being one of the more solipsistic imbecile morons trolling on YouTube. Go make a rant video or something.

  • @Gamfreekz lmao, that's like telling me a day to remember must be doing something right because they have a ton of fans. You have no clue how many of Metallica's fan base are just dumb ass kids who haven't heard any good metal band for themselves. They hear enter sandman and become their #1 fan. Bro, Metallica were good. WERE. Kirk's a shit guitar player, Lars is a cunt. James is cool and so is Rob, but they're running low on originality.

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 Most of their fan bass is made up of 20-40 year old's, a considerable amount of younger teens are fans. A day to remember is a crappy band that doesn't even compare. most of their fans are made up of whiny emo or scene kids. Kirk is a really good guitarist. He keeps his style simple, It's very blues In-fluent and very influenced by Hendrix. Lars isn't as good anymore but that's understandable because he's over 50 years old. Your body begins to almost shut down at that age.

  • @GrandRiffAuto73 grow up buddy, try and learn the difference between pop rock and metal... may god bless ur music sense :P

  • @sonamrockdat pop rock? lol...like? btw, pop rocks are delish.

  • Where can someone get one uhh those??!!

  • @techdechcentral yep, they are active. As for the best passive pickup, there is not one! There are a ton, really a ton of passives that are awesome for metal. Just do some research and listen to sound clips, go to local music stores and try out everything you can get your hands on. Go with what YOU like.

  • Death Magnetic! Damn your Guitar sounds so fucking Great. Now...you need to kick some assess bro!

  • Im not crazy about the look of the geetar but it does have a pretty sick tone

  • That's one tasty guitar :P

  • Impeccable rythym as hetfield. Nice demonstration!

  • Wish you guys can post a vid showing how to hook these amazing pickups!!! Amazing tone man!

  • Whats the first riff?

  • @hec33y a cut up thingy of broken, beat and scarred

  • this thing sounds absolutely beast... i'd love to hear a higher quality version though. but i can tell there is definitely a cleaner low-end than a regular 81.

so do these install just like the other EMGs? just take the old one off of the quick connect and attach the new one?

  • I just put these pickups in my Warmoth build. They sound fucking amazing. I'll try to get a demo of them vs my 81/60 set up maybe tonight.

  • Beautiful .... !

  • The Sound and the Guitar ! *_*

  • One question... the pickups are active or passive?

  • @gabrielminninurfs Active.

  • These pickups paired with a high gain amp (MESA :) ) are sick.

compared to a 81 the bridge is higher output (more gain) while tighter at the same time. The video doesnt do them justice (not the playing, just bad audio from the camera). James obviously took his time tweaking an already amazing pickup set.

I dont use the neck all that much but his version of the 60 is supposed to be warmer.

  • Can someone please do a comparison between the 81/60 combo to the JH set.

    That would be awesome! Thanks!

  • @martinjbarnes they are the same, just different bezel and a signature name/package.

  • @plokoonpma i disagree, i had the 81/60 in this guitar for two weeks before I put the JH set in the guitar. There is a difference in tone, and its more than just a new look, I promise!

  • @plokoonpma ba bowww !!

  • @martinjbarnes checkout my other video I did last night, JH-B vs. 81. Didn't do the neck pickups, I hardly ever use em.

  • @martinjbarnes Look at rob chapmans new video mate

  • Definately badass sound man! Thats my next purchase come the first is those pickups....Did you install them?

  • @jrdoyl00 my friend of mine installed them for me, nothing to it though. Now he wants some for one of his guitars.

  • @fixdrummer Thanx man! but, how is the clean tone?

  • @jrdoyl00 haha, really haven't played much clean with them yet. But the little bit that I have played they sounded great imo.

  • oh yeah u nailed the hetfield tone lol :)

i want to get this guitar

i got the diezel vh4 and the kh-2 esp

just need the mx or the snakebyte !!!!!

  • Me want! sounds good bro

  • Fuc*in 200€ for em...

  • Sounds great Dude!!! Are the pickup very mid heavy (in terms of eq range?)

  • @XxNecrofreak13 I wouldn't say they are mid heavy, but i think they'll cut great through a mix. I think they really hit a homerun with this pickup! it combines the great attack and crunch of actives with the warmth and clarity of passives, i love em. I have a few amps and they sound great through all of them, can't say that about the emg 81 though.

  • @fixdrummer Haha to the 81. I think these will be on the list of upgrades. Thanks for the info
