I think music of any instrument is allowed since the duff is allowed but I can see why " music" which causes the mind to wonder on to things such as "sex or drugs or lost women etc" can be a factor which lead to action which is straying away from gods path. You are so certain of your interpretations, but you don't realise you could actually be denying appreciation of God's own provisions. We enjoy combinations of sounds because of how our ear is constructed (see 'Harmonic Series' on Wiki). Obviously music with bad lyrics would be unnacceptable, but music itself is just sound!

I'm confused about the definition of 'music' by muslims. Do any muslims believe 'pure' music like a symphony should not be allowed? If so, on what grounds? Or, is it only music with lyrics (or non-religious lyrics) that are not allowed? Pure music (like Bach's preludes and fugues) I would have thought would seem like the beautiful patterns common on Arabian architecture. It's just music with no meaning, just patterns in sound.

There is nothing in the Quran which says that any music is prohibited. Some narrow minded muslims try to prohibit music based on certain hadith. Liberal Muslims and many schools of Islamic thought say that music is halal (including western classical music). There is lots of beautiful Islamic music from many countries. Search for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for example.
the hadith is sahi hadith one of the stronfest hadith and there are verse in the quran in surah luqman where it gives hints that music is harram, shall i psate it for you
this is incorrect, that hadith has some weak links and as such is a WEAK hadith. i.e. not to be trusted. However please share the verses of the Quran which you say give "hints" that music is haram. However if they only give "hints" then they obviously don't prohibit music. But I'd still like to see them out of curiousity.

The hadith has a broken link. Therefore it is not definitive. To claim that it is is simply a lie. If you want to follow it then that's fine. HOWEVER, it is also perfectly acceptable to reject this hadith. Everything is permissible in Islam until it is explicitly forbidden. Music is not EXPLICITY and DEFINITIVELY forbidden.

The prophet didn't say that and that quote isn't in Surah Al-Anfal. Don't lie. Nowhere in the Quran is music expressly forbidden. Music can be both good and misleading.

Dr. Sahib is not declaring that music is allowed in Islam. Music is neither absolutely halal nor it is absolutely haram. According to Islamic Fiqh everything is mubah (or jaiz) unless it is declared haram. Music is not 'specifically' declared haram anywhere as far as I know. Having said that there are things that are associated with different types of music today that are haram. E.g. anything that leads someone away from Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) or leads towards lust or vulgarism is not jaiz
Similarly anything that leads or makes someone closer to Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) is not only jaiz but also commendable even if it has been music. If any music lead someone towards love of the country or results in motivating someone to help other people etc. (but should in no way lead towards lust or vulgarism) could be considered jaiz. This is only because music itself was not specifically delcared haram. Here is the reference of the Hadith: Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 56, No 730.

Most of us (Muslims) are having so biased and limited approach that we just start commenting on our Ulemas without first understanding what the person is saying. All those who comment against ulemas should first read Qur'an and Hadith that how strict rulings are against disrespecting ulemas. Any person having a logic can not conclude from Shaykh's comments that music is absolutelyh halal. I think he is very clear on his stance it is our limited talibaan style approach if we conclude differently.

I personally admire Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and would recommend everybody to just browze through his website. I really like the enthusiasm he protrays in his speeches. We don't have to agree with each and everything he says. There are few points I do not agree with him myself, but that doesn't mean that this scholar is a"phony" or a "joker." Any honest person will not hate him after listening to his lectures, reading his books and meeting him personally, and I am proud to say I am one of them.

I think music of any instrument is allowed since the duff is allowed but I can see why " music" which causes the mind to wonder on to things such as "sex or drugs or lost women etc" can be a factor which lead to action which is straying away from gods path. But what i cant accept is "just the duff" is allowed because that's the only instrument that the prophet allowed when he was alive. Simply not sensible

This idea of music being forbidden is a modern fanatical development. There are many ancient Islamic treatises on music and the study of acoustics by Al-Farabi's among others. You are so certain of your interpretations, but you don't realise you could actually be denying appreciation of God's own provisions. We enjoy combinations of sounds because of how our ear is constructed (see 'Harmonic Series' on Wiki). Obviously music with bad lyrics would be unnacceptable, but music itself is just sound!

But this logic is unacceptable as we know there are many positive usages of the TV itself. Hence one should only use such things in a positive manner. I'm confused about the definition of 'music' by muslims. Do any muslims believe 'pure' music like a symphony should not be allowed? If so, on what grounds? Or, is it only music with lyrics (or non-religious lyrics) that are not allowed? Pure music (like Bach's preludes and fugues) I would have thought would seem like the beautiful patterns common on Arabian architecture. It's just music with no meaning, just patterns in sound.

There is nothing in the Quran which says that any music is prohibited. Some narrow minded muslims try to prohibit music based on certain hadith. Liberal Muslims and many schools of Islamic thought say that music is halal (including western classical music). There is lots of beautiful Islamic music from many countries. Search for Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan for example.

this is incorrect, that hadith has some weak links and as such is a WEAK hadith. i.e. not to be trusted. However please share the verses of the Quran which you say give "hints" that music is haram. However if they only give "hints" then they obviously don't prohibit music. But I'd still like to see them out of curiousity.

The hadith has a broken link. Therefore it is not definitive. To claim that it is is simply a lie. If you want to follow it then that's fine. HOWEVER, it is also perfectly acceptable to reject this hadith. Everything is permissible in Islam until it is explicitly forbidden. Music is not EXPLICITY and DEFINITIVELY forbidden.

The prophet didn't say that and that quote isn't in Surah Al-Anfal. Don't lie. Nowhere in the Quran is music expressly forbidden. Music can be both good and misleading.

I don't it is bad to let a lot of music into your life and music "taking over your life" isn't even bad. Idolizing musical artists and celebrities like Britney Spears etc and dressing like them is bad. A lot of the culture surrounding music in the west is bad, But music isn't in the least bad. I don;t even know what you mean by "over use" it. how can you over use music? Obviously listening to it or playing it 24 hours a day is stupid but if that's all your talking about then it's obvious!

Dr. Sahib is not declaring that music is allowed in Islam. Music is neither absolutely halal nor it is absolutely haram. According to Islamic Fiqh everything is mubah (or jaiz) unless it is declared haram. Music is not 'specifically' declared haram anywhere as far as I know. Having said that there are things that are associated with different types of music today that are haram. E.g. anything that leads someone away from Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) or leads towards lust or vulgarism is not jaiz

Similarly anything that leads or makes someone closer to Allah and His Prophet (PBUH) is not only jaiz but also commendable even if it has been music. If any music lead someone towards love of the country or results in motivating someone to help other people etc. (but should in no way lead towards lust or vulgarism) could be considered jaiz. This is only because music itself was not specifically delcared haram. Here is the reference of the Hadith: Sahih Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 56, No 730.

Most of us (Muslims) are having so biased and limited approach that we just start commenting on our Ulemas without first understanding what the person is saying. All those who comment against ulemas should first read Qur'an and Hadith that how strict rulings are against disrespecting ulemas. Any person having a logic can not conclude from Shaykh's comments that music is absolutelyh halal. I think he is very clear on his stance it is our limited talibaan style approach if we conclude differently.

regardless of what the true fatwa (ruling) is, I personally think that staying away from music is like safe guarding ur ears and heart from one type of heedlessness.
In my madrasah, music was strictly prohibited by our scholars, which i think made me change(to good) tremendously.
I'm glad i was saved from music (especially western music, no offense. It's the truth)

Music is Haram! He is so well trained as a master con-artist that when confronted by Sunnis, he claims to be a Sunni! When Deobandis and Shias corner him, he says that there is no problem in performing Salaah behind them. He even practices this! Perhaps he is practising, as described in the following Ouranic Verse: "When they meet those who believe, they say 'We believe', But when they are alone with the evil ones, they say 'We are really with you. We were only joking."' (2: 14)

Personally I think all forms of music is haram except for tambourine. I also heard that music is allowed at the time of war to boost the morale of soldiers. It's good that I watched this video...I need to read more on this topic and what scholars think of this.

I personally admire Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri and would recommend everybody to just browze through his website. I really like the enthusiasm he protrays in his speeches. We don't have to agree with each and everything he says. There are few points I do not agree with him myself, but that doesn't mean that this scholar is a"phony" or a "joker." Any honest person will not hate him after listening to his lectures, reading his books and meeting him personally, and I am proud to say I am one of them.
