  • This is Eishen Ryu Iaido

  • Oomori style!!!!....muso shinden ryu...Shohat-to..... NO KATORI SHINTO RYU!....

  • It's pretty dam good anyway ! I wish I could practice like this !

  • As others have already stated, this is from the school of Muso Shinden Ryu, the kata itself is Ippon Me Mae. I can guarantee that much as this is the exact seitei form that I have studied for a couple of years and I have a copy of this exact video which was handed to me by me sensei.

    Definitely not Katori.

  • its eishin ryu

  • The man demonstrating is the current head of the Nihon Kendo Renmei Iaido. I cannot remember what he practices in kouryu (nor his name, I have a bad memory for names), but this is and abstract of a DVD published some years ago for the Nihon Kendo Renmei. So it is seitei :)

  • not katori this is iaido

  • I have this in VCD, handled by my former Iaido sensei. It's Seitei Iai, certainly it's not Katori Shinto Ryu; it's not Muso Shinde ryu also, my sensei teached that and the techniques shown have differences with Muso Shinden, like "no to" or resheathing the katana. Some techinques are very very similar although

  • is not setei ai, is muso shinden ryu, it have an extra move

  • I don't know why people put these silly titles up. This is Ogura Sensei performing Seitei iai...and as others have commented it's nothing to do with Katori Shinto Ryu.

  • Not Katori.

  • It's Seitei Mae

  • it's not seitei iai, it is the muso shinden ryu's shohatto!!

  • Yes, I do agree with you !!

It LOOK similar as the setei Iai, but if you compare them you'll see very easely that it is very different...

  • This really is ZNKR Seitei Iai, this video comes from the DVD. Other katas are here on YT as well And tigrisi, there is no tate hiza in this video.

  • Correct this is MSR seitei, ipponme, mae.

Just see the notto. For Shohatto, we grab the tsuka to the end of tsuka gashira, then "lock" the sword. For seitei, we just release the hand after sheating the sword.

  • OK, it is either MSR (Muso Shinden Ryu) OR Seitei :-)

This video is ZNKR Seitei Iai Ipponme. and comes from the Seitei instructional DVD.

  • tigirisi - I was not aware of any difference between "shohatto" from Muso shinden ryu and "mae" from the ZNKR setei iai.

    Can you please explain?

  • Hi, the differences will depend on your lineage of MSR you are doing. It may go from no difference at all to very different.

  • Not Katori shinto ryu. its seitei iaido

  • Not Katori shinto ryu.

  • This is not Katori shinto ryu! This is Iaido!

  • That's not Katori. There is no chiburi, and in katori Shinto Ryu the sword never passes upon the head in that way.

  • This Kata is not of Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu !

  • As others have stated, this is not Katori Shinto Ryu.

All ryu, have characteristics that run through their kata. The chiburi and noto in the video are not done the way TSKSR does them, and TSKSR kata do not start in seiza.

This is the first ZNKR Seiteigata, adopted from the Shoden (Omori Ryu) kata of Muso Shinden Ryu. In Seitei it's called Mae, and in Muso Shinden Ryu it's called Shohatto.

You can tell that it's MSR, not MJER, by the horizontal noto among other things.

  • In seitei Iai you don't moove the legs in that way when we are in tate isa.

  • ipponme mae... this is not Katori, its the first of seteiai. Two totally different things though both have iai forms. Still seteiai is just about iai and nothing else.

  • there are only 15 iaijutsu kata in TSKSR

6 in omote, 5 in tachiai batto, and 5 in gokui

  • I thought I commented here... wierd. This is not Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu, but still looks nice.

  • How do you know? Have you seen every kata?

I think there are more than 149 katas.

  • heh. its simple, cause I know that this is a iai-do. search for iai-do here on youtube and compare ^_^

  • chiburi in katori is different

  • There are not even close to 149 iaijutsu katas in Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu.

  • Did I say 149 iaijutsu katas?

  • No you didn't, but you are still wrong. There are about 98 kata in TSKSR. Why did you mention 149 kata including ones other than Iai, when we are clearly talking about Iai in a video about iai?

  • Sexy time

  • this is mae from the seitei gata of the ZNKR, the sensei in the video practices muso shinden ryu iaido, i forget his name but youll find it here on youtube

  • ipponme mae (omori ryu)

  • just as I said - this video is not about TSKSR :-P

  • Bellissimo e molto carismatico
