Let's be honest... Summertime or whatever is shite...So I dont mind if he stole the riff or not, the thing is that he made something fantastic from another thing crappy!
SG710, are you an idiot? Every musician takes something from others. It is not stealing. Stealing is when you totally copy the riff! By the way, why would he tell in that video that he had stolen something? He is not stupid to call himself plagiarist! The difference between "inspired" and "stolen" is HUGE!
I admit, Ritchie is one of the most awesome guitarists on this planet. But I can't wrap my head around you people defending him for steeling those riffs. If someone else did this you'd be like "shame on you, asshole!!!" or "you're f*** thief" or something like that. But when Ritchie does it you defend it. And don't say he can do it because he's Ritchie f*** Blackmore. Doesn't matter. What a perfect example of double standard
@SG710 Get a life, Dickweed. Every musician is inspired by other musicians. Ritchie is original enough to do something else with the material. It's not stealing.
He and the others from Purple stole many songs or riffs. Child In TIme, for instance... The main structure of the song is totally stolen from Bombay Calling by It's A Beautiful Day. They, however, "stole" it from an old movie soundtrack from the '30s, I think..
Led Zeppelin's intro to Stairway To Heaven.. Stolen from a 60's band called Spirit.
The drum solo from The End by The Beatles.. Identical to the drum solo in In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly.
@jamirosmajicrocks Taking from one is stealing, taking from many is called research. I heard Santana say that but he was quoting someone else, dont know who though.
@jamirosmajicrocks Just so you know, every great guitar player has to take from someone else, where do you think inspiration comes from? Clapton - Robert Johnson, B.B.King, Albert King etc list goes on and on. John Petrucci got his inspiration from Steve Morse. Hendrix from all the great blues players, he even took alot from Little Richard.
woah!! I mean AMAZING! This is the definitive proof that a True Master gets his inspiration from EVERYWHERE...and at the END Ritchie gives a nice compliment to Ian...well in his own way.
