Can someone give me an example of an post colonial African leader who was democratic and open to capitalism? I don't think it was a thing of the west delibertly wanting to support dictators. Can someone give me an example of an post colonial African leader who was democratic and open to capitalism? I don't think it was a thing of the west delibertly wanting to support dictators. They wanted to stop communism but they ended up with too many bad leaders to work with. Had an African leader come to power who was democratic and promoted market economics I don't think the CIA would have interferred with them. The people who live at the mouth of the River Congo/Zaire share little in common with those at its headwaters. Maybe black folks just don't have what it takes to run a country. Anyone ever heard of a prosperous country with a black leader? I know of a few countries that were prosperous until black leaders were elected, Zimbabwe and South Africa come to mind.

Have you also wondered what might have been if the west had allowed our legally elected leaders stay rather than removing or killing them and replacing them with men in uniform? What makes you think that if it's only proven to have happened once then it DID happen just once? This is an excellent point. The west deliberately kept leaders with a nationalistic vision out of power replacing them with greedy ones concerned only with their own wealth. This allowed US business interests to obtain the mineral wealth for bargain prices.

Again, we see how insensitive some westerners can be when it comes to the atrocities still being committed by their leaders in Africa. Most African leaders are just remote controls in the hands of the west. Those that refuse are removed or killed (Lumumba, Nkrumah), those that agree are compensated by being helped to remain in power for decades. The past generations suffered from lack of info, hopefully this internet age will help make a difference so Africans can start asking more questions.

I am against Mobutu's behavior, but it is also clear that the West has had a history of involvement only to the extent that it suits its interests. Bill Clinton reiterated this policy during his term.

Yes the CIA was in Africa taking sides against communism much like the USA does now in it's war on terror.That was 40 years ago and they didn't want the civil destruction of these countries .. Western companies just want to do business and can't control what the government of the Congo does with the money they make they make from them .Chinese companies trade with and sell weapons to counties like Zimbabwe , Sudan ,knowing full well the destruction they are causing .The west does not do that ..

The US and west are lotting the resources, they are the ones funding all sides of the conflict. if any genuine leader that wanted to help the people was to get anywhere near power, they US will corrupt him to keep the status quo so they can rob the minerals or provoke a coup or assasinate him by proxy and install a new leader.

Don't be ignorant, Off course they're not in Congo. The US and the west give weapons and aid to all fractions and groups who fight in the Congo war including neighboring countries such as Rwanda. Multinational corporations in the west have big interests in the minerals and resources in Congo.
The US makes sure they stay corrupt and they country stays destabilized so profits are maximized for the west. GO and educate your self more about the topic.

As for Mugabe, he is not a good leader and has implemented bad policies. But the reason why there is so much hostility directed from the Western media and leaders is not that the western governments care at all about the plight of Zimbabweans, it's because he kicked out some of the white farmers who stole parts of the land during colonialism, the west expected him to protect those farmers.
The economic sanctions are not helping the people of Zimbabwe either.

It is like a pyramid, with the west at the top stealing the most amount of wealth. The west profit the most and the people get nothing. The US and west support status quo governments all over the world as well as the middle east as long as it suits their interests. Even western banks have put Congo in debt.
It's ironic after all the looting today, colonialism and slavery, Africa is still in debt to the west....

Your education seems to be lacking in the subject as well. The US is in the Congo. Its not US government that is keeping the Congo down, it is private companies that are based all over the world. The problem here is that the government does not care about the people, they don't even pay their own police and military on a regular basis. It is greed that controls these leaders, nothing else.
