Very true! Thanks for the reminder. This video is very inspiring, I just wish we had the funding and time. I am trying to get creative though. Being on block scheduling, our time is even less minutes than if we were all year.
trym2315 - Another thought - What if your school's sports teams use foul language or engage in negative behavior (that NEVER happens, right?) Don't they have your school's name associated with them? Your debate team or any other school group that works with other schools or public entities? If they use foul language or engage in negative behavior what is the ownership/punishment for that? Just asking.
trym2315 - The blog software we use (and others do this too) send student posts to you first before they end up on the net. Then you can quickly peruse each post and if it is OK, click on a link on the post and it posts to the web. On the other hand, students need to be taught web etiquette up front just like we teach students safe use of power tools in shop classes. trampolines and other gym equipment in PE and so on.
I teach high school and would love to use more technology. Of course, the time we have to teach objectives and the benchmark test dates does not afford much 'fun' time and I am spending my time this summer thinking of creative ways to incorporate techniques to get my students to be learners rather than to regurgitate info for a test. If students blog and use foul language or engage in negative behavior, what is the ownership/punishment for that? Isn't your school name attached to the blog?
Brian is a hero for us all. I got to visit his class a year or two ago, and it's all this and more. If it were as simple as cloning... well, it's really not that complex. Bravo, indeed, for sending up those high hopes.
