@Bhomein I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes i feel the same way. Thats why i never wanted to reenact any "real unit" as i think that people have to earn the right to wear that uniform. Especially when i see people that are not fit enough to run 5km but are all "special forces" in the games. Most of our players including me were also in the military (like the guys in this video). Look at it as training. There is a difference between "wanna be", and "already was".
@Bhomein Really? Have you even talked to anyone who has served? Most Mil-simmers ARE military, They love doing it and this way you're less likely to get killed.
@Bhomein I'm sorry you feel like that but do you think it's fair that you're bashing on airsofters who are just trying to have fun, when at the same time there are people in whatever country you live in who call your (our) men and women over seas murderers and are completely ungrateful for what they are doing? Airsoft is a hobby, just like paintball. Not some kind of substitute for the real deal.
It would be easier to believe that if there weren't loads and loads of AS mongs impersonating real serving people and just posing around. Paintball, why not. Bunch of guys running around spraying paint all around. Good fun. Airsoft used to be like that as well. Now it seems it's closer to cosplay and dress-up.
@BlueyFromMelbShuffle Well, there aren't that many (atleast wher i am). Most are just wearing camo with no patch/badge/symbol that represents a real military group. It's usually just their team colours. But yeah there is a limit. I just wear camo pants + blk/O.D shirt + gear. The guys who go all out usually do it out of repsect, since they're gonna drop multiple pay checks to look like that specific unit.
It's not really that respectful, if most (if not all) of the serving soldiers find it rather offensive. I mean, offending is a weird way of showing your respect.
I have nothing against airsofting in general, I used to do it too as a kid. It's just these guys who use it as an excuse to dress-up and parade around in an uniform...
@BlueyFromMelbShuffle I do see how people can see those guys going all out as dis-respectful; they're pretty much trotting around with rank they didn't earn. Although I've played with a few exmilitary and none of them ever had a problem with it. If you were serving/currently serving than you'd be the first...honest :X. I see it more like if you were to wear your favorite player's jersey when playing a sport, u do it because u think they're awesome, not because you hate them
It's a bit complicated to explain these things. I recommend you read around a bit, to see why airsoft is getting such a bad rep among servicemen.
It's not like I'm personally offended, I doubt too many airsofters run around impersonating my unit, current or past. I just think that spoiling a legit past-time by using it as an excuse to pretend is wank.
@BlueyFromMelbShuffle Yeah I've never served so I will probably not get the whole picture, and we can't really speak for everyone either. I will admit that I find it kinda off when someone shows up with 5 stars on his shoulders. But w.e, it's not like all sports/hobbies are free from criticism.
You can say that again, good luck finding some hobby that doesn't irritate some poor bastard. Not that you should worry too much about this stuff anyway, since you're just plain airsofting without the whole dress-up-thingie. Nothing wrong with that.
@BlueyFromMelbShuffle dude you do know the military used to use airsoft for training right? and o wait theres thousands of ex military that play airsoft also dumbass so tell me there how its offensive if they play it and they used to use airsoft for training till they got simunitiion
You might want to re-read my comments with some thought. I have nothing against airsofting, it can be great fun. I think the posing and wannabeism that usually come with it are wank.
Not that any of what you said had any relevance to my comments, but it sure was nice to learn that airsoft was used by military before they "got simunitiion". Bless your heart. You must be talking about Systema PTWs and such?
So what is your opinion of current and ex military/police men/women attending and hosting games such as these? how about the OLCMSS games which donate money to the wounded warrior fund? by hosting games such as "operation irene" ?
You seem rather butthurt and like you have a chip on your shoulder.
Also Airsoft is used as a training tool by many militarys and police agencies world wide
@Bhomein You know these big ops usually are attended by alot of ex military or current military personnel, so before you say anything make sure your right first so you dont look like an idiot.
@Bhomein So,... what we you saying again? Oh right, you're butthurt. Thanks for your service, but turn down the attitude. The airsoft crowd is, at least here (Quebec, french-speaking part of Canada) amongst the most military=supportive group within the population (and pretty much the only one besides the military industry and the military families).
@Bhomein: I play airsoft too, and 3 of my closest teamates are OEF veterans. We locally have a full team of about 12 veterans (they well all in the same company in A-stan) and did 2 deployments. Still, they come play with us. We also have a shitload of active military which aren't necessarily infantry.
@Bhomein Then that is solely YOUR opinion, and don't prentend you're talking for every servicemen/veteran on earth. I chose a different carrer path. I'm doing my part for society differently. I have the upmost respect for veterans. My own grandfather fought in WWII, I'm always there for the Veteran's day parade to pay my respects, and while I'm studing, I work at a tactical supplies store serving my city's military base.
@Bhomein You're a troll. My uncle and cousins are in the fucking military and they're not offended by this kind of stuff. If you're trying to prove that all vets and soldiers are offended or made fun of or being disrespected by others either on youtube or on the streets, you're sincerily wrong. Asshole.
@Bhomein Sorry you feel that way. Tier 1 is staffed by ex and serving Marines and run by an ex SAS sergeant. Since they feel fine with airsoft, I don't see how you could be right.
@Bhomein My brother is serving in afghan with the royal marines and has returned just last week but he and a lot if his mates do airsoft and I think if you are in the military it's a great way to polish your combat skills but that's just my opinion.
@scrappy1312 Thanks buddy, a new 18 minute long commissioned video is being produced of the Tier One Sub Operations (ultra milsim) and I am the camera man at their next big game (which has helicopters!)
