  • its wry neck sillkies are prone to it

  • lol i have 10 chickens and the only way they would do this is if there neck was broken, or if it has brain damage...or if it just doesnt like you~lool

  • Very young birds can show problems like this also. We had one that I almost gave up on. The lady in the feed store suggested electrolytes, you can buy the livestock type (cheaper) that's in a little packet. Took some time and patience, lots of spoon feeding, but she did recover.

  • Well my chicken pets, once they get Newcastle disease, die. I wonder if your chicken survive. It 's so sad, I love chickens and I got a lot of them like pets, living happily hatching eggs and eaten a lot. of foods.

  • omg poor chick

  • poor chicken...

  • In these tough times a vet is to expansive... People may argue with me, but there are kids all around the world how are sick and dieing and we humans can give to shit about them, but when it comes to pets we pay the vets... I say let it die and throw it in the woods so some other animal can eat it or throw it the the dumpster..

  • @KingToads you are an ANIMAL HATER! We are trying to help sick children idiot that's what charities are for.

  • no need to buy expensive medicine just FRY THE DAMN CHICKEN

  • @chinglengvang but you would be eating fried chicken that has a disease. I dont know about you but i wouldnt even touch that .. 0.0

  • I know its hard to except but when a pet like that acts in such a way where it looks like its having difficulty's. the best thing, and kindest thing to do is get it put down. humanely of course no shotguns or anything. I mean if you where in the same situation were you had to be like that all your life it would be easier for your pet to just let him or her go up to a better place (i.e heaven)

  • As usual a load of silly answers when the owner is genuinely concerned about his bird, your bird has Newcastle Disease, go to your local vet for help.

  • it could be a seizure poor baby

  • give mutts a chance

  • i had 4 silkies and 1 was a female but then the white female died of starvation no my dad allways hand fed her it was strut the boss of the hen house he picked on em to much

  • I remember this happened to my pet chicken and it recovered too. We didn't have a vet nearby but my father dilute a tiny piece of opium (the size of very tip of a niddle) and poured it in its mouth. Few days later he got well. Opium can be medicinal if not abused.

  • @ellie3637 waht meth

  • that's not inbreeding. more like vitamin deficiency. or mareks.

  • I had a silky just like that she's died 2weeks ago :(

  • my rooster suffered with same disease and died in July 2006 at the age of 4 yrs.

  • Why would you spend money on a chicken? The most I have invested is $19.95 and that was for a nice sharp hatchet. This way all my chickens are covered for disease or sickness.

  • @cksilverado1 why would anyone spend money on you if it could be sorted so easily?

  • wry neck

  • @brandon6133 Yes, that's what it's called... (wry neck).

  • looks like newcastles disease

  • That aint no silkie it's a polish duh and looks to me like Newcastle

  • @lilwinche i have a similar chicken and its a mix between a polish and a silkie, has the white feathers and siklie look, more dense feathers.. but not as much fluff :)

  • tobad but im glad it is okay

  • your chicken is fine it just has cranial swelling, a little anti inflammatory medicine would have helped

  • esa gallina tiene la enfermedad de NEWCASTLE

  • i dont see anything wrong with this chicken

  • She's inbred? so she's a NASCAR fan then...

  • beautiful silkie. Glad she recovered.

  • She probably ate an earth worm..they do not digest them and sometimes the worm will crawl back up the chickens throat. ..it chokes them and can choke them to death if it is a large one. you may want to give her some piperzine to deworm her. Just put two tablespoons in a quart of water.

  • Are I hope she doent die of them deseases

  • Comment removed

  • poor cute little chicken-friend.

  • its a batrey hen i used to have one batrey hens have a desease im 10 and i know that!

  • The chicken in this video recovered after a month or so and hasnt shown any signs of this condition since then

  • @BillyBevans12321 Oh yay! I'm so happy she's okay. She didn't look like it was bothering her, it's nice she is better!

  • @BillyBevans12321 This kinda re leaves me my chicken is doing the same I got so scared

  • I would get her checked. This looks exactly like New Castles Disease. If your giving her expensive medication, it wouldnt hurt to pay for a visit to the vet to check if she does have New Castle disease. I would do this as soon as possible because the other medication could be either doing harm to her or it could no have effect.

  • kill it man put its out of its misery. it wont feel a thing

  • its drunk. Hick..

  • I just have to say onwe thing. I know she is a pet and all but what is the point in giving expensive medication on a chicken i mean its different with a dog.

  • Chicken is pretty smart, and make great pets. I don't think there's any reason why we should treat them as life forms lower than dogs... after all, in some countries they breed dogs and eat them just like we eat chicken, right? (I know it's terrible but it's true)

  • Pet is pet. No matter it is a dog, a cat, a rabbit or a chicken.

  • this is due to the birds head swelling from some other chicks pecking at it.. they have a valted skull where some parts of the brain is not protected. treat this as a swelling in the head.. use prednezone to lower swelling, lasix to help drain the fluids. any thing that can reduce welling.. like water retention meds.. but dont dose them to death, only 1/100 or 1/1000 of a dose. mix in water, then mix a little bit of the water in with chick feed. ultimately, see a vet, or take it for swim.

  • ITS A CHICKEN GET OVER IT

  • this looks very similar to paramyxovirus you often get in pigeons. it causes their head to contort backwards. I've seen lots of pigeons get better after treatment but they are pretty hardy. this disease is also known as newcastles disease.

  • :(((((((((((((((((((((

  • Ur chicken doesnt suffer from inbreeding defects...its has been vaccinated by new castles disease...or overdose to anti-biotics...

  • Then why dont you spend the money that you spend on your pets? you fucking hypocrit

    shut the fuck up

im sick of peope like you that think people are more important than animals you stupid shit this chicken deserves to live just as much as you do

  • Comment removed

  • no im saying i would fucking treat them equally no matter what

what if your son was born retarded? would you try and have him put down?

    sick freak

you just claimed that you that she was wrong for keeping it alive then said you spend money to keep your pet alive

  • piss off

  • umm wtf :L:L

  • i think it''s wrong to have an inbred chicken they should be killed at birth. me working on poultry farms few years back i saw an inbred chicken with a leg coming out its shoulder and it was legal to sell this to the market.

this is wrong i do not care what u think i know its the right thing to do. if u let it live ur making it suffer.

  • my chicken has dat ITSHORRIBLE!

    :[

  • Aww poor thing! Did it wind up getting any better?

  • ..well it depends,if it has never been like this well probably somthing happened to it..but if it was born like this...dont make it suffer no more...(u know wat i mean)

  • broken neck

  • That "chiken" is a pet, and probably loved.

I know I would do whatever I could to help my chooks.

  • thank you=)

i wud do any thing for my babies 2 =D

  • your right my chicken is sorta doing the same thing this chicken is doing I don't know whats wrong with her T_T

  • i'd give it some Terramycin....you can get it at Tractor Supply

  • i thnk your chicken has a sinus problem,, crush a asprin fine and split into 8 give 1 lot for 8 days on some wet bread,,i also got a small cage and put some ridged wire in so tht it only had a narrow bit 2 b in as this helps it not fall over, but still alows it 2 move back and forth,,hope this helps, murphy6,

  • Expensive medication for a damn chicken?

    What kinda of chicken?

  • any living animal deserves to get help when they need it, even "damn chickens"

  • You could just put it down. Or do what most people with chickens do.

  • well if there was a chance of saving it i would, thats just my opinion

  • Just depends on what you value, I value tigers over chickens, =P

It looks like it's a show breed anyway.

  • you mean eat it?

  • that works.

  • poor chickennn :(

  • she probably died but in future, give her selenium and liquid vitamin e, the brain swells inside the head sometimes causing pressure on the brain, called limber neck or lots of other names and silkies are particularly susceptable to it. usually caused by poor sanitation and in breeding. lots and lots of effort and long hours are needed to cure this and sometimes it comes back. they dont usually live more than afew years after but i always give them the best time i can give them while living.

  • sorry, its vitamin B, E, selenium and prednisone steriod. I know dosage is crucial but you have to guess. my vet is a Avian specialist but after paying $600.00 vet bills for a brown leghorn a few years ago that decided to eat a galvanised woodscrew and got heavy metal poisoning, i had to figure things out for myself if someone got sick! and learn how to care for them myself. there are some helpful books out there to.

  • put you out of your misery

  • thats a cute chicken it makes me want a chicken

  • Hi, Beautiful Silkie! I raise a lot of Silkies. It is Limber/Wry neck. I give Polyvisol along with a vitamin E capsule w/Selenium. It's very common in Silkies.

Comments to "put it down". No, it's not contagious and no it can't be passed to other chickens, humans or anything else. I have a lot of money and emotional attachment in my flocks and these chickies become part of the family. I found out by taking one to my vet with it. I raise rare breed chickens. Over 400 birds. 53 breeds.

  • xD I'd love to come to your place lol

  • I recently lost a hen exhibiting the same problems :'-(

What I am thinking is something along the lines of what Starshock01 said, inflamation of the brain. Just a question, does her tail lean off excessivly to one side? That was a problem my hen had about a week before she started having seizures.

I hope your hen is all right... she is a georgeous girl.

  • I did too, just tonight. She had this same problem ontop of a few others. I looked up the symptoms and they matched perfectly with New Castle disease virus. Be careful, it is contagious to humans too.

  • god damn what the hell?

  • wtf?

  • its not a disease, its inflammation of the brain causing it to push up against the skull wall, usually some prednisol or predisone will help

  • thats odd, this year i hatched a chick with the same symptoms (though not nearly as dramatic) and i hatched it from two totally unrelatd birds. the chick figured out how to eat even with a turned head, and after about two weeks, it was totally fine.

(but now it thinks it's a duckling)

  • No we dont keep her in the house- we keep her outside with the other 10 chooks - this was taken just before we took her to the vet. BTW she made a full recovery and she is now fine.

  • Are you a vet? No. So your comment means nothing - refer to comment above. The chicken is now fine. BTW the condition is NOT contagious so PEACE!

  • its not a disease, its called wry or limber neck

  • Do you think she is having a seizer. Make sure she is getting alot of protein. Crickets do well. my chicken was going through something like that and I researched it and it comes down to diet. Good Luck

  • it's dancing or its shy lol cool tho

  • Oh Im soo sorry I hope she is ok. What did the vet say. I hate the fact that people could care less..it's a chicken they say. I do hope she is fine. My little chick is injured I could not find one darn vet to look at her. They think ur crazzy. I soo upset I hope mine makes it.

  • don't eat her.....what is wrong with u ppl...I think she's gorgeous....

  • its a chicken.

  • She is just a beautiful hen, do you keep her in the house? Taking in the fact of her current condition, that might be the best idea for her.

  • Normally I'd be all for keeping the chicken, but if the medication is all that expensive, why not get an all new chicken, eat that one, and then pretend your chicken was a-okay to begin with.

  • lmao

  • I agree, put it down and get a new one.

  • Bloody glorious Master Bevas... That's one crazy arse chicken.
