GREAT female characters. loved first 6 episodes. then we loose ruth wilson and 2 other main female characters. wasnt as good. anyone know when it starts again
I completely missed Luther when it aired and got my hands on season 1. Pure class! I watched the 6 episodes back to back, not a good idea when you start watching the first 1 at 11pm before bed. BBC's finest hour!
What an unbelievably brilliant show, I rate it like I do CRACKER, Frost Spooks, but this is a cut above the rest, the main character cooler than a modern day Shaft and yet so real, so down to Earth in a rustic true to life way. MORE PLEASE
I have absolutely no idea why some critics didn't appreciate Luther. It's fantastic piece of work, brilliant writing, old school storytelling, and Idris Elba has the supporting cast he deserves as the heavyweight actor he is. I can't even think of any actor currently who could have brought the formidable John Luther to life like he has. Who actually has that much authentic screen presence? Pacino? DeNiro? I want to see Idris in big leading movie roles. He was born to be on screen.
I can't even begin to imagine the creativity of the script writer. Absoloutely mind-blowing. The whole series is just so psycological and terrifying at times. They sure know how to build tension. Fantastic acting as well.
Im looking to watch new tv shows. So you all would recommend this show? I love Idris! Mmmm sexy, and talented. I also wanted to check out his older series. Anyone know about the wire? Thanks!
driis do a remake of the film body heat with Zoe Saldana. where naive attorney Ned (William Hurt) is entranced by the alluring Matty (Kathleen Turner in her film debut). Ned is manipulated into killing Matty's much older husband
I liked the first episode, but the show only gets better (and as a result, grows more addictive). Wish it could be 22 episodes. It's incredibly well done.
I'd just like to say that the last two episodes of this show completely validate its existence, and are about a million times more entertaining than reading h0gg0's pompous bullshit. Whoops, guess I've been "brainwashed" by our degenerate society!
This show is probably better as an ongoing drama (eg eps 5 and 6) than a "killer of the week" affair, so I'd definitely like to see more of that (and more of Alice) if the Beeb commission another series.
i agree if you want a no emotion cop show where its all about the case and not character developement then watch CSI theres about 600 episodes, where they don't ever bother breaching "protocol" as its illegal and then start preaching bullshit. Luther was a brilliant show, sure there wasn't an action scene every 20 seconds but hey, the shawshank redemption is the no 1 film of all time with the godfather. need I say more
@etocadet the Shawshank Redemption is one of the BEST FILMS ever made and thats saying something .. its not about action and special effects its about a universal theme, amazing acting and directing.. beautiful..
Chicken Nugget TV for 14 year olds. Please do a search for "Fry attacks BBC's dumbed-down 'chicken nugget' television" ... and please someone put an end to this.
@HoraceOflaherty oh look here we are again on another luther youtube! Slating Luther, shock horror. I'd like to know what you consider high brow stuff the beeb can do next? Guys dnt listen to this drone, stick with this series, the last 2 episodes are AWESOME especially.
@welshygems You have to look at the other comments being made, by who, and in what context, to understand that this is TV that should not have been commissioned, and certainly shouldn't be repeated. If it is, it should be paid for by advertising and not by the TV License Fee. Luther is complete and utter bollocks. If you think it is sophisticated, then I have nothing but despair for you.
Best thing I'v seen in years. Idris Elba is superb & Ruth Wilson as Alice Morgan totally makes this a winning drama. Love her twisted games which she plays with Luther, she is a fantastic actress. Can't wait for series 2.
'Lovin' Luther' the show, the man and co worker Ruthy baby. I work in mental health, social care a similar field with risky adults [my colleagues, not the clients] and it sometimes feels like he's inside my head and speaking my words. Enough of the psychosis! Love the extremes of passions, the psychological depth, satire and the range of emotions the series takes me through, I,m usually emotionaly exhausted at the end but more of the same please Miss P
Totally Amazing BBC TV Drama, bring on Season 2! The acting quality 10/10, story lines 10/10. I do watch stupid amounts of TV, so when i say i think this could be the best tv program i have ever seen. I can not give it a higher mark.
Wow, I came across Luther 4 days ago. I ended up watching the 5 episodes back to back and it's truly a piece of wonderful drama. Encapturing many emotions within and gripping story lines; this is brilliant to watch. Certainly one I'll be Passing onto friends.
Well done BBC! I look forward to the second series.
Fantastic program. I remember seeing this guy in something else. Then I remembered, I saw him in the US version of The Office (which is also great) playing Charles Minor ;-) Weird seeing him in that, then this. But great program, Can't wait for the last 2 episodes ;-) It's good something like this came after Ashes to Ashes as well, because it kinda keeps a similar theme but still is different... in a weird way.
I think that Luther is an excellent piece of programming. It's well acted and has some really deep and intense story-lines. BBC continues to reinvent good crime drama and I'm glad for it!
@jonnypinknuckles Anyone who pays a license fee reserves a right to comment on how their money is being spent and on what; particularly if the main character is talking the show up in a way that would suggest he has just reinvented the wheel and the ratings are nose-diving quicker than a nuclear submarine. In the spirit of YouTube and what the comments page was developed for, I hope no one is offended by this.
@h0gg0 lol ye thts fine but it just seems ur spendin alot of ur time commenting on evry luther video on youtube just to have a go @ the bbc and tbh i dnt see wat ur prblm with it is rly wat uve said doesnt rly make sense how does a telly show mumble?? wtf?? and ratings dont mean shit alot ov ppl watch hollyoaks but its still pants.
@jonnypinknuckles Yeah, you're probably right. You seem to fit the demographic of the target audience for this show, whereas I do not. Clearly the show was made for 14 year old boys. I will take your advice and stop commentating.
@h0gg0 yer its prbly 4 the best think of all the time u could spend writing angry letters ov complaint 2 the bbc 4 not showing more antiques roadshow and all ur other old man shows lol.
@h0gg0 The show is good. However, it is becoming a little far-fetched. I am going to continue watching, only because there is still three episodes left to watch. It would be stupid to stop watching at this point in time. You might as well watch and get the whole story, and then make an overall summary of the series.
@XBabyLippyX Neil Cross -the writer- acknowledges being influenced by Sherlock Holmes and Columbo. Funny that. Because that's a bit like Rolf Harris saying he is influenced by Mozart, isn't it.
I would hazard to guess that Neil Cross said that in order to throw people off the real scent of this Chimps Tea Party production aping Wallander, Cracker and The Silence of the Lambs; of which it is a very poor pedestrian imitation.
@XBabyLippyX I dislike the license fee being spent on what are supposed to be adult TV shows that have such ponderous scripts; wooden acting; and Doctors* -like editing/production values; that can only predominately appeal to what appears to be (your good self aside) 14 year old school boys.
@h0gg0 Lol; frankly, I have no reply to that argument-I will not try and persuade you to like something that you, quite clearly, do not. I do in fact fathom why somebody would be pissed off when they feel that the shows on T.V. aren't even aimed at those who help pay for them.
