This one scene alone has more personality (for lack of a better term) than the combined scenes of the entire 2011 remake. Everything from MacReady's toughness to Childs's incredulousness, even to Nauls's expressions of fear are so much more palpable than any of the acting in the new one. I blame our ADHD society for this because you can see how back then (1982) they took their time with a scene like this, making the viewer drink in the tension, rather than just throw crap at you rapid fire.

I guess this backs up a further theory that the test didn't actually work and Palmer just sacrificed himself by revealing himself to be the thing. Letting whomever was also infected at that time slip under the radar.

One thing I don't get about this scene is why isn't Copper's blood infected? Why did it not react? He had his arms ripped off by the Norris thing, therefore his blood must be infected. The same way in which Windows is infected after being mauled by the Palmer thing. Windows then became infected and was turning into a "thing" less than a minute after the attack. Yet Copper had been attacked some time earlier, he should have started to turn, and by this time, his blood must have been infected.
