Hi ya, nice project and like the output! ... but these are EF lens with no manual aperture control, so aren't you just controlling focus rather than DOF?
Although you could easily use this adapter together with a M42 to EF adapter and get some cheap M42 manual lenses from eBay to get full cine lens style control (aperture, focus and zoom on lenses capabale of zoom)
The BEST way to have a DOF is using an FOCUS RING (search on VIMEO). The 35mm DOF adapter... is good for miniDVs cameras or cheap HD cameras. But NOT for the HV20/30/40 ´cause... this great camera have its own DOF (using the manual focus). The HV20/30/40 LOST definition with the DOF adapter. Sorry.
i am thinking about making this adapter but im not sure if my lens will work with it. can i use the same lenses that my canon DSLR uses? if not, why? thanks!
Well I built an adapter pretty much to this design, it does look really cool though I can see some grain when blown up on a 52 inch lcd.. I'm thinking of going further and building a motorized one, would you have tips for adapting this design with a motor? I think it would rival the best adapters out there
i'm just confused about the first part of the video, where you are talking about uv filters without glass. how do you glue the uv filter into the lens and how do you know what size uv filter ring you need with whatever respective lens you have?
i attached the uv filter with standard glue and i used 58mm uv filters because they are easy to find, but you can use any size you want ¿, just be sure to have the correcto step ring adapter for your camcorder
What's the purpose of gluing the uv filter to the lens, is this also a way you could attach a 35mm lens directly to a camcorder (gluing uv filter and using its 58mm threads to attach to camera?)
it depends on your thread size of the front of your camcorder. If you watch the video, you have to put a step down ring on the macro lens. the other side should fit into your camcorder. I'm guessing that you have a 37mm thread but it could be a 43mm.
yes, all the lenses project the image upside, some adapters have pentaprisms that correct that but they have more light loss, i think is better to flip it in software
Where did you get the ground glass? Donde conseguiste el viddrio Thorlabs?

Why are you making use of square ground glasses instead of circles? Can you explain this to me?
And I don't understand the use of ground glass in the first place either. Can you explain me this too?
Can't I just make a whole in the cap, glue some UV-filter rings (without the glass) and mount this to the camera?

The final product looks pretty good, it's a little shaky though.

so why did you stop using lens caps? Also, was it easy to find the last part, the 58mm - 43mm adapter? Is it easy to find those for any 2 sizes?
perniciousnonsense1 2 years ago
I use the cap just in sun light, and all the ring adapters can be found at B&H

Nice video. Instead of using uv filters without the glass, would using a canon eos extension tube work?
jeandfilms 2 years ago
yes, sure, it sould work great, just be sure to have the macro between the lens and the grund glass

Thanks, how much did all the materials, not including the lens cost?
