Her lyrics are far less repetitive than the average artist...and by surrender she's not referring to simply giving up at your goals. You're completely misinterpreting it.

As for her vocal ability, she has one of the most adaptive voices I've ever heard, she combined power and beauty with her voice better than any singer I've ever listened to, and she's great with solf melodies or aggressive hard rock.
