However, none of Lewis's demos were released and she considered taking a hiatus from her music career to attend university until her boyfriend persuaded her to enter The X Factor. Leona auditioned for the third series of The X Factor in 2006. She was mentored by Simon Cowell and was announced the winner on 16 December 2006.
