Fucking hell! I have walked past this building every fucking day for the past 4 years on my way to my uni, the LSE. What is freemason man and how do I join. They do a lot of filming and promotion work here. They had a Batman doll at the top of the building just last month to promote fuck knows what.... Definitely not the nolan franchise.

@jostpuur Freemasonry has been on the decline for at least 30 years with only about 1/4 of the members it used to have. With the rise in personal entertainment (movies, tv, and the internet) people don't engage in social groups like they used to (I see this in other clubs I belong too not just the Masons). Its' had a little upswing the last few years, still creaky with age but slowly modernizing. There is still hope and the mission continues.

What a fantastic piece of architecture in Europe. I don't know why so many people have negative thoughts about this. @TheUltraNinja Do you know where your g-grandfather lived? Check the Mason Lodge in those towns. Many will research for you or even let you check the rolls yourself. If you have the dates he lived there it would help narrow the search. If you know were he is buried you could check the cemetery, many Masons have the square and compasses put on their headstone.

He moved to Greece because of the war. I'm born & bread in Australia and always wondered about him & Masonry. I was hoping if there was a way I could check from where I live (Australia). what would be the polite and respectful approach?
@TheUltraNinja Here in the States each state has a Grand Lodge which governs that states Masonic program, but there is no central headquarters for the country. You could check with the grand lodge of the county or providence your g-grandfather is buried. Hilter hated Freemasons,hunted them along with the Jews, could be why he left Hellenic. How your family got to Australia from Turkey would be an intresting story. You could hire a geneologist (family history researcher) they know how to dig.

The oaths we take are voluntary oaths of servitude to our neighbors and our charities, which we donate lots of money too. Freemasons have always welcomed men of all religious faiths, that's the point, to show that men of all faiths and races can work together for the betterment of mankind. Some of those faiths don't include a Saten or Hell in their ideologies. So as not to be exclusionary, Freemasonry never mentions them.
@hiphoplivs Possible but not likely. Although Masony never asks WHO a persons Supreme Being is or their faith, Masons are a fairly conservative bunch. Satanists like to boost that they're Satanists. @hiphoplivs In 1889 a man by the name of Leo Taxil was kicked out of the Masons for plagiarism. For revenge (and to make a lot of money) he started writing anti masonic books, pamples and articles, which the Catholic church encouraged. In 1897 before an audience in Paris he admitted that everything he wrote was a lie to embarass the church and discredit the Masons. Modern antis have been re-hashing and adding too his drivil ever since. Masons don't defende themselves so they are easy targets
@sixgun45 In its beginings Rosicrucians had a few strings of philosiphy that was shared by the Masons and a few British Masons also belonged to the Rosicrucian order back in the 1800's. The Rosicrucians then went into a lot of mystic hocu-pocus stuff, it was never a big group and was never part of Masonry. Every states' Grand Lodge has a web site (GOOGLE), most local lodges are in the phone book (fraternal organisations) and the buildings are clearly marked. No secrets there.
@sixgun45 A really well writen book about the masons is "Freemasons for Dummies' by Christopher Hodapp. you can get it off the shelf at Barnes & Noble (history section) or any bookstore can order it. Everything Freemasonry teaches can be found in the religious studies or philosiphy section of any decent library or bookstore. Freemasonry just condenses the information into one place and encourages self study.
@Zecalran Before our lodge meetings we have dinner, our Chaplin leads in Grace. We begin and end our meetings with a prayer to God. We also say the Pledge of Alliegence (one nation under God). A lodge cannot be in session unless a holy book (in North America it's usually the Holy Bible) is opened in the center of the room to remind us that God is watching and listening to everything we do.

@SolarGamer I've been to many lodge meetings, always with 33rds present, and have never seen anything resembling a worship service, unless you include the prayer to GOD that opens and closes the meetings and in the U.S., the Pledge of Allegience (one nation under GOD), but most city councles do that. I guess they will have to kick me out because I don't believe in Baphomet either. The Scottish Rite is considered the college of Masonry, anything over the third degree is considered elective.

I was reading a comment by inkets. And my argument is that Freemasonry is neither Muslim, Christian or Jew. In fact there is no such connection within the fraternity and that all or most of it's practices are taken from ancient egypt. Royal Arch belongs to the York Rite branch of Masonry which leans heavily on Christianity for its' teachings. I'm in Scottish Rite which is more universal in scope and takes lessons from many religions and philosophies, nothing that can't be found in any decent library or bookstore.

I already know the answer, but I will ask the question anyway, can you show any evidence to demonstrate the correctness of any of these claims? Except the pope (acting under orders from the king of france who owed the templars a LOT of money and needed a lot himself), condemned the Templars. @jostpuur Freemasonry has been on the decline for at least 30 years with only about 1/4 of the members it used to have. With the rise in personal entertainment (movies, tv, and the internet) people don't engage in social groups like they used to (I see this in other clubs I belong too not just the Masons). Its' had a little upswing the last few years, still creaky with age but slowly modernizing. There is still hope and the mission continues.

@TheUltraNinja Do you know where your g-grandfather lived? Check the Mason Lodge in those towns. Many will research for you or even let you check the rolls yourself. If you have the dates he lived there it would help narrow the search. If you know were he is buried you could check the cemetery, many Masons have the square and compasses put on their headstone.

You could check with the grand lodge of the county or providence your g-grandfather is buried. Hilter hated Freemasons,hunted them along with the Jews, could be why he left Hellenic. How your family got to Australia from Turkey would be an intresting story. You could hire a geneologist (family history researcher) they know how to dig.

The oaths we take are voluntary oaths of servitude to our neighbors and our charities, which we donate lots of money too. BTW:Our mandatory background check (same for gun purchase) keeps out criminals (child molesters of your previous post) and satanists wouldn't have much interest in the masons as we never mention him (Christian concept).

@InkKits Well it would be nice if once those who make the same claims as you do would bring forth any actual proof of said "misdeeds", instead we will have to listen to more unfounded claims and Nazi style propaganda. The police and judges of England have had to fill out a questionaire of if they are Masons (though no other affiliation has ever been asked). And yet none of those policemen or judges who were Masons have been found not to be loyal to their country and derelict in their duties.

@InkKits By its very structure Freemasonry cannot be a Satanic cult. A cult is a religious organization. The Masons are a CIVIC organization.
Freemasons have always welcomed men of all religious faiths, that's the point, to show that men of all faiths and races can work together for the betterment of mankind. Some of those faiths don't include a Saten or Hell in their ideologies. So as not to be exclusionary, Freemasonry never mentions them.

@hiphoplivs Possible but not likely. Although Masony never asks WHO a persons Supreme Being is or their faith, Masons are a fairly conservative bunch. Satanists like to boost that they're Satanists. I doubt they would get through the background checks and pre-entry interviews without it coming up. Besides, there is nothing in Masonry that a Satanist would be interested in. We never mention him and a holy book is open in the middle of the room to remind us that God is watching all we do.

And what connections or ties do freemasons have between Rosicrucians if any? and my last question would you label freemasons as a "hermetic Secret Society"

@hiphoplivs In 1889 a man by the name of Leo Taxil was kicked out of the Masons for plagiarism. For revenge (and to make a lot of money) he started writing anti masonic books, pamples and articles, which the Catholic church encouraged. In 1897 before an audience in Paris he admitted that everything he wrote was a lie to embarass the church and discredit the Masons. Modern antis have been re-hashing and adding too his drivil ever since. Masons don't defende themselves so they are easy targets

@sixgun45 In its beginings Rosicrucians had a few strings of philosiphy that was shared by the Masons and a few British Masons also belonged to the Rosicrucian order back in the 1800's. The Rosicrucians then went into a lot of mystic hocu-pocus stuff, it was never a big group and was never part of Masonry. Every states' Grand Lodge has a web site (GOOGLE), most local lodges are in the phone book (fraternal organisations) and the buildings are clearly marked. No secrets there.

@sixgun45 A really well writen book about the masons is "Freemasons for Dummies' by Christopher Hodapp. you can get it off the shelf at Barnes & Noble (history section) or any bookstore can order it. Everything Freemasonry teaches can be found in the religious studies or philosiphy section of any decent library or bookstore. Freemasonry just condenses the information into one place and encourages self study.

@Zecalran Before our lodge meetings we have dinner, our Chaplin leads in Grace. We begin and end our meetings with a prayer to God. We also say the Pledge of Alliegence (one nation under God). A lodge cannot be in session unless a holy book (in North America it's usually the Holy Bible) is opened in the center of the room to remind us that God is watching and listening to everything we do.
Masons have a saying "Brotherhood of man, fatherhood of God".
Not a dark entity anywhere.

And the expression "on the level" means, among other things, that each mans religion/belief in a supreme being is considered EQUAL to any other members... nothing to be considered greater or lesser.. last time i checked, satan was all about destroying and deluding humanity, including satanists themselves, so anyone who says otherwise is a disgruntled ex mason, or simply ignorant.. fare well

@Zardikar94 Neither, Freemasonry is a civic organisation, not a religious one. Although to be one you have to believe in a or Supreme Being. For many Freemasonry is a social club to hang out in, for others Freemason philosophy is fascinating, a condensation of many different philosophys pointing to how to be a better person while helping your local community. Freemasons contribute to many different causes including reading education, burn centers and hospitals and mental health clinics.

@SolarGamer I've been to many lodge meetings, always with 33rds present, and have never seen anything resembling a worship service, unless you include the prayer to GOD that opens and closes the meetings and in the U.S., the Pledge of Allegience (one nation under GOD), but most city councles do that. I guess they will have to kick me out because I don't believe in Baphomet either. The Scottish Rite is considered the college of Masonry, anything over the third degree is considered elective.

honestly what is the point of this honest freemasonry. its a botherhood of what seriously? they managed to keep their secrets well gaurded through thousands of years yet their symbols and control is so evident in infastructure,media and goverment. its almost as if freemasons want their presence to be known but their secrets to be kept hidden. from ancient egypt to the modern day world freemasonsary is a front for a much darker order.

Why can't you believe there are powers for good (just like churches only civic) working behind the scenes? You people are all alike, always thinking negative. There are forces for good out there out there too, they just don't boost about them. Go to your local lodge or temple (in the phone book) and ask the secretary what local charities they contribute too, I was so impressed I joined.

@SolarGamer For the same reason you can find the Cross every were you look, Freemasonry has been around a long time and is found in any country that has a healthy democracy (Hitler, Stalin, and Bin Laden all banned Freemasonry and you see were that went). Our buildings are clearly marked, why would we need to hide symbols? Again Freemasonry is a civic organization and offers no salvation or dogma, we go to our individual churches for that.

I was reading a comment by inkets. And my argument is that Freemasonry is neither Muslim, Christian or Jew. In fact there is no such connection within the fraternity and that all or most of it's practices are taken from ancient egypt. Freemasons are the Satanist Elite of the World, and use people like inkets and his comments, to cause confusion and division between mainstream faiths such as Islam and ChristianityFreemasons want to destroy/Rule The World.

I have never once heard Satan, Lucifer, or Hell even mentioned in any lodge meeting, much less worshiped, not surprizeing as we are not church or religion and don't worship anything. A civic organization, Freemasonry strives to unite people despite their religious differences and encourages people to participate in their individual faiths. Athiests cannot join and a holy book is in the center of every meeting.

Jubalum delt the final blow that killed Abif. Abif died rather then reveil the secrets of a Master Mason. It is used as a moral lessen about integrety. Jubalum represents sloth, someone who tried to abtain something he dosen't deserve.

@villancico1976 My Masonic encyclopedia from 1912 only lists a Jubelaom, which I misspelled in my previous post, but the same symbolic character in the lore.
Royal Arch belongs to the York Rite branch of Masonry which leans heavily on Christianity for its' teachings. I'm in Scottish Rite which is more universal in scope and takes lessons from many religions and philosophies, nothing that can't be found in any decent library or bookstore.

I already know the answer, but I will ask the question anyway, can you show any evidence to demonstrate the correctness of any of these claims? Except the pope (acting under orders from the king of france who owed the templars a LOT of money and needed a lot himself), condemned the Templars. Also ignoring the fact that since then, the whole extermination of the templars has been admitted as simply wrong, and their innnocence established beyond a shadow of a doubt.
