troops aren't dropped inside transport vehicles - not worth the risk.

There are some combat vehicles though that can be dropped with crew.

BMD-4 for example has been made with the idea to be dropped with crew if needed.

@sharpanator yeah they said that this system failed, it had a platform underneath the truk to do just that, but it did not work, also one of the shoots did not open, so Kamaz hit the ground pretty hard, but it still started. =)

in Russia we says "No pain- no shampaigne" ))) it was testing parashute system for light rtucks... for heavy eqiupment (tanks e.t.c.) we hawe system with 4 parashutes and rocket brakes unit, but for trucks it too expensive to use- we cannot spend 1million$ /1 trooper at year like US ))))

who says kamaz is perfect??? military invest so much money you can makesomething out of piece of sh..t nowadays. And participation in dakar rally is only a visual kamaz, but nothing is left from the factory made kamaz. so please some of you keep that in mind. Kamaz did not do a single normal change in many years, thay become rusty after half a year after leaving factory, so what more can i say?! Just a crap with a big throat for diesel.

Yes! You are rigth in all the parts. I can say it as a ex-owner of seweral trucks same brand. But there is a difference between the citizen and the military conveyors. Military production has a some better quality.

And of course, in many cases, low price is a strong argument.

@VPovver Because they had no sense for quality, all they saw in their post-cold-war-block-thinking is "eastern junk"... They even gave away the Mig-29s they inherited for a symbolic sum of 1 DM per unit! They only kept 1-2 Trainer models for a few years, because they somehow saw their good-natured and forgiving handling, ideal for flight pupils/beginners.

Looking back, i deem it unforgivable, that my country did this!

@VPovver No... Certainly not the best in the world. But although cheap eastern cars existed, that doesn't mean all of the products of this company were unreliable and crappy. Western car makers also have products, that are cheap and prone to failure and "higher" models. Kamaz trucks won the Paris-Dakar Rallye 8 times, ahead of western competitors and thist truck never had problems with bad conditions like sand, heat, and enduring the days of racing 800-900 km in high speed for that terrain.

@NIGHTMAREuki I doubt it was decided successful. No one in the video said so. It surely proved the reliability of Kamaz but IMO the drop was mainly intended for testing the parachute system. The systems like this must be capable of getting the tank to the ground without hurting it's crew.

I dont know if you know russia but it says in the video that the landing was a bit harsh because one of the parachutes didnt open. and even though there were deformations it also says that that nothing else was damaged and that the truck drove away with no problem. Please no need to hate when you dont know whats happening.
