you would have been proud of the New Muppet Movie. A new Genration of Fans are discovering the Muppets with the New Muppet Movie. I cried the day u passed. Thank U for making my Childhood great.
If you want to see something heartbreaking, look up the Jim Henson memorial where Big Bird sings "It's Not Easy Being Green." Carroll Spinney (his voice) breaks up during the performance...when he is done there is utter silence. SO powerful. Like here when Frank Oz breaks reading the letter as Miss Piggy....these people loved Jim and it comes through in the characters.
I wasn't watching puppets or muppets when I viewed this. These are creatures that were stitched together with heart in every thread. Bless this man and his team, I hadn't realized until now how much he gave to me when I was growing up and how much of it is still in me now.x
I love how Kermit walks in just when they were finishing their song. It represents the spirit of Jim Henson living on another puppeteer who conveys that Jim Henson would be so pleased.
I never saw the muppets on television. I know very little of Jim Henson. But this was very moving. Just by watching this I can see how much Jim and his work meant to the world. Gonzo's reading made me tear up. I'm glad the team were able to deal with such mature subject matter and not sacrifice the "muppet" feel.
Oh, and kermit? I am sure that is the way the boss would want it
I tried not to cry until Kermit walked at the room... I burst tears... It's so beautiful.... They're right, Jim Henson is always be there with them...
I never cared for the muppets, or anything else for that matter. And although I thumbed down some of the comments for their request on 'if you had tear before half way' etc, I value a video which tributes a man with honour in his creations.
Awwwwwwww........this was so sweet. I think it shows the brilliance of what the Muppets used to be when they could be very funny without being crude and incredibly sweet without being maudlin. Few shows can do it and even fewer master it.
Them reading the letters made me choke up a little too. When you are so absorbed in a show that the creators are part of the episode, you know you have a great show.
The person that brought Kermit alive might have died, but Kermit will always live within us forever. Even if our generation dies off, we will pass on to our children and their children the magic that Jim Henson made us believe as we grew up!
I then say: "We are gathered here today to remember a man so revolutionary, the Muppets have become a worldwide phenomenon. Jim Henson, a lovable man, a great actor, the voice of Kermit the Frog, and also the voice of Cantus on "Fraggle Rock". Jim Henson will be missed dearly." Red, Rudy (from the show "ChalkZone"), and Buzz Lightyear (the "Toy Story" version) all bowed their heads and grieved for Jim's passing.
@nuttyprof99 So do I. I grew up on The Muppets and I think they are gems to American Entertainment. I grew up on the movies, the TV Specials and Series, and I have an album of theirs that always makes me smile.
@EntertainmentCaptain Mine too. I cry everytime I hear the music and the letters. The kid inside me is there every time I watch The Muppets. The Hallmark channel used to devote half their channel to Henson. How cool would it be if a Henson channel started up tomorrow?
"The most sophisticated people I know - inside they are all children." Jim Henson
I grew up with Jim Henson's Muppet's and Sesame Street it pains me deeply inside to even watch this after finding out the man behind the worlds greatest puppets has passed on over 20 years ago. Jim Henson, if you can read this in heaven please Let my grandfather, Helmet Hintz, Know that I miss him. and You were like a part of my family. I'll miss you we all will.
I am only 15, and I wasnt around when Jim Henson was, but after seeing this video, I understand how much people love and miss him. He is and always will be one of the most loved people in the world. He may not be here on Earth, but he will always be in our hearts. We'll miss you Kermit.
"I believe that we form our own lives, that we create our own reality, and that everything works out for the best. I know I drive people crazy with what seems to be ridiculous optimism, but it has always worked out for me." -Jim Henson
21 years ago, the world lost one of the most influential men in children's television. Jim Henson touched the lives of people everywhere, and he will always be missed. Let's remember him today as the man who changed what it meant to be an entertainer.
Whoever disliked this video obviously didn't care for the genius that Jim Henson had put into his creations, nor did they care for the fact his team felt they owed him something special.

Maybe this sounds a little bit over the top but it really is the truth. In my eyes Jim Henson was a modern day hero. Period. Thank you Jim for all you have done and for every smile you out on peoples faces all over the world. Thats unique.
The amazing thing about Jim was that his whole life was built on making others happy. As an Atheist, Jim didn't believe in Heaven nor the concept of an afterlife. For his funeral he asked for two things. That no one would wear black and that "When the Saints go marching by" be played.
@AngelGhostchild: Christian, by definition, is religious. Besides, any sort of faith is itself a religion. It may not be orthodox or officially recognized, but 'tis still a religion.
Jim Henson passed two months before I was born, twenty years ago. It makes me so devastatingly sad I never got to know this world while Jim was still in it. And even though I we never co-existed, watching this video makes me tear up. Jim Henson touched so many people's lives and this video is clear evidence of that. <3
My Global teacher, maybe killed Jim Henson. My Global teacher was at MGM studios when Henson was shooting the muppets movie. The date was May 9th 1990. My teacher was sick with streptococcal pneumonia. He saw Jim Henson doing a photo shoot. He walked up to Jim Henson and shacked his hand, then he coughed on him. It was not on purpose, he said he was sorry, but the damage was done. 6 days latter Henson died of streptococcal pneumonia.
My teacher still can't get over himself to this day. R.I.P
@frostyhat123 Oh my god that would get to me too. I would have personally dragged Jim to the hospital if I was working with him. No one should die so young when they made a dynasty that changed the lives of so many people young and old. Did he get to talk to Jim at all before he died?
I've watched this so many times, and it makes me tear up every single time. The world is a much better place for having had Jim Henson in it. We miss you, Jim.
May 16th will mark the 20th anniversary of Jim's Death. God bless him and his works. May the muppets still continue to ring laughter and joy to the world.
When this 1st aired I taped it and kept it I loved the Muppets growing up, but everytime we get to this part I start crying, God BLess You Jim Henson. You will never be forgotten :)
@Breen31173 Yes Jim Henson was an icon!!! I am forever a fan of The Muppets since I was a little boy. You are never too old for that. I loved The Muppet Show and the films and TV specials over the years. I hope to see more in the coming years. I would love to see these guys do another variety series. Jim had a love for life and for the human spirit. He cared about making us laugh but also showing that if we are all kinder to others we can make the world a better place.
I can watch the saddest movie you can throw at me and I may feel the sadness...but this is the only thing that can actually cause me to tear up. The Muppets raised me. Thank you Jim Henson. For creating such amazing characters that ushered me through my childhood and whom I still watch at the age of 20.
I love the chickens being randomly tossed through the shot at the end after Kermit asks for something silly. It just adds to everything but seems somehow appropriate.
they should have made since jim died so did kermit like when big bird sang at his memorial and at the end looked up in the sky and said thank u kermit
its silly, but what really made me tear up was that even Sam, Statlor and Waldorf joined in. You know that when you can get even Sam the Eagle to sing in a tribute to you, you've lived your life right.
The first time I saw this I cried. Now all of these years later and I'm crying again. Jim wherever you are I thank you for your vision and for making sure that there is still some magic left in the world.
I stumbled on this video today. It is funny how all these years later I still cried from the letters. Jim Henson's imagination and talent inspired a generation and continues to this day. He was one of the greatest things ever to happen for children.
Thanks Jim for my childhood magical. I remember watching this as it happened. Never will television be the same. Children don't use their imaginations any more.
@collgoff: Jim himself hand-selected Steve. He had originally planned it so that he could take care of the business side of things, but sadly, he died and Steve would have mighty big shoes to fill as a result.
@collgoff: Steve had to have known something, since Jim himself selected Steve as his replacement, whether he had died or not. If he were still alive, Steve would still do Kermit, since Jim--like Walt with a certain Mouse--passed the Frog onto Steve, since Walt and Jim weren't content to just be stagnant. They always opted to move forward with each new ambitious project they undertook.
im an air force special operations airman and this made me cry just a little.
Jim henson really was one of the few people in this world that was good on such a basic level that he couldn't help but make the world better simply by being here. he will be missed and never replaced.
I would have to say the version sung at his memorial. Both are moving, but the service got a standing ovation. It's one thing to see just the Muppets singing, but when you have the Muppets, their performers, and the audience being impacted that much, it has to strike a chord.
I remember the muppets take manhattan I was 10...it was in the top 5 movies of the year 84 I think....I agree the muppets should come back...good stuff...good memories..
Dear Mr. Henson

He couldn't. His voice sounded all wrong. That was the most crushing part of it all.
ESHbyESH 2 years ago 2
@ESHbyESH At the time, yeah, but now Steve can do it right.

RIP jim.

Um how Did Steve get the parts of Kermit and Ernie
collgoff 2 years ago
@collgoff: Jim himself hand-selected Steve. He had originally planned it so that he could take care of the business side of things, but sadly, he died and Steve would have mighty big shoes to fill as a result.
TherealRNO 10 months ago
@TherealRNO But Jum didn't told Steve Whitmire that Seve said so in the muppet cental interfew.
collgoff 10 months ago
@collgoff: Steve had to have known something, since Jim himself selected Steve as his replacement, whether he had died or not. If he were still alive, Steve would still do Kermit, since Jim--like Walt with a certain Mouse--passed the Frog onto Steve, since Walt and Jim weren't content to just be stagnant. They always opted to move forward with each new ambitious project they undertook.

@TherealRNO Well I think you gone a little too far Just saying.

i'll be honest.
im an air force special operations airman and this made me cry just a little.
Jim henson really was one of the few people in this world that was good on such a basic level that he couldn't help but make the world better simply by being here. he will be missed and never replaced.

@A2ndVoice I know what you mean, I cry each time I see this. I don't know how the voice actors got through this easily, I'm sure it took many takes.

I'm trying to decide which version of this song is more moving; this one or the one at the end of Jim Henson's Funeral.
BuckWilliams17 2 years ago 2
I would have to say the version sung at his memorial. Both are moving, but the service got a standing ovation. It's one thing to see just the Muppets singing, but when you have the Muppets, their performers, and the audience being impacted that much, it has to strike a chord.

I lost it as soon the cast started singing

The only reason I DIDN'T cry was because I had seen this before and cried buckets then.
But even though I didn't cry, I still miss Jim and his genius.

It seemed like a more innocent time. They don't make good quality shows like this for kids anymore; you know, shows that actually have a message.
This was such a nice idea for a tribute.
